2) you can create a program with a textbox to locate a program to associate with, and a button that calls CheckAssociation() sub but you have to modify it a little. and then create a key in the registry

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\ and name it for example "Associate Extension" and then create a new key in it and name it "command" and modify the default value to "app path" "%1". you can then get the extension of the file you opened the same way in the vid.
