  • Nice work on the James theme. I was thinking James' theme is more of a 1950s classic rock style. I often see James as a greaser/ Teddy boy.

  • Where do there models come from?

  • Don't forget about his whistle! You can't have James without his whistle! :^ )

  • That's quite cool actually :)

How is James progressing as of late?

  • I see that buffer rolling around there on the table. lol

  • you did a great job Making James!

  • iz gauge 1 large scale?

  • @legofan605 - G-scale and Gauge-1 fall under the "large scale" collective.

  • Ford Red. Would that be the same red they used on their tractors?

  • @Farmerboy986 - Could be. Lord knows that hardly any spraycan company has pegged New Ford Blue though.

  • I have a few questions;

    1) What was the advertised scale for the buffers and hooks? Was it G scale because gauge 1 runs on G scale track?

    2) I assume you are focusing most on the Ernest Reloaded series at the moment, but what is the next thing you'll work on for James? May I suggest lamp irons and couplings?

    3) How is the Edward for Gauge 1 coming? Is it still in the same stage as it was in the video of it under track power?

    -Ryan

  • @TheRyanCarMan - There is no advertised scale for the Thomas products, but it might as well be 1:20.3 narrow gauge - the models are sorely oversized.

James' face and eye mechanism will probably be next. Don't expect it soon - I have another Ernest episode that I'm pretty sure I can film at home, and a third necessitating one set only (but requiring Stevie and Gail). By then, the series must be making enough to support a warehouse to film the remaining 11 stories.

    Same state for Edward.

    -Kurt

  • where did u get the buffers (the ones u said where too big and the coupling hooks

  • @No1thomasfan2010 - Bachmann.

  • Hey Kurt. I think I remember that you had a video once of you making James' face in 2009. Is it still in process?

  • @726berkshire - Only Ernest's face. I did mention that I was working on a James face, but I decided to forgo it until a later time.

  • dude for a second I thought" o.O Elvis? the hair I"M SORRY! lol

  • Jesus, you really know what you're doing here. :O

    Fantastic work here. :D

  • When will you make the face. How will he look compared to Bachmann James when finished?

  • When are you going to start painting the tender?

  • is the james rc?

  • @laky450 - No, only the eye mechanism is. James runs off of 24v track power.

  • @cudak888 ok thank you

  • What's left for the project, then? Just sculpting about his face, adding the eye mechanism, painting the tender and adding the side-rods, I'd assume?

  • Amazing. It's already looking like the TV series model. Nice editing too.

  • the model is looking good so far, but how are you gonna make the whistle, couplings hooks, and coupling rods? :P

  • hey cudak, have you ever though writing to Britt alcroft when you are finished showing pictures of the model? im sure she'd be totally pleased with your handywork :D

  • @MITCHELLtheC17 - Personally, I wish I could have shown it to David Mitton, may he rest in peace.

  • @cudak888 i must agree with you. thats why i took that into account.

but i do think that britt would be able to see the sure brilliance of your work.

  • "This ain't no HIT entertainment bull shit!" That was hilarious!

  • that looks great that model of the buffers but did you fix the problem of the eye control?

  • @TheNewStoryteller - No problem with the eyes, just haven't built the mech for this unit yet.

  • Will you mold a face, or just buy one?

  • @super58173 - Mold, of course. See my Sodor Scratchbuilding video about face making.

  • i'll look foward 2 ur ernest episodes

  • So, when it is time to add couplings, will you be using Tenmille couplings?

  • @EightyMac - I don't know. I might be able to modify the Bachmann pieces to my tastes.

    -Kurt

  • You made a awsome James. If I didnt know better, I would have thought it was the real thing! I would like to see future projects! I bet they will be as awesome as this! Good luck!

  • so, how much did you save on the bachmann buffers than the other ones you were going to buy? anyway can't wait for your next vid, love the buffers! :D

  • @Alexthemaster33 - The whole lot that you see there ran $25 + 5 shipping. A pair of Tenmill buffers would have run about the same (!)

I didn't realize Bachmann had finally made replacement parts conveniently purchasable online - I went NUTS when I saw that the buffers were up there, for a pittance, no less. :D

    -Kurt

  • Are you making a Series?

  • @NemesisHero123 - Yes, though that is a long way off. I intend to embark on a parody series with different characters beforehand; it'll give me an opportunity to iron out any bugs.

  • @cudak888 okay can't wait to see it :)

  • Awesome. The buffers looked grand on James and also nice buffer diameter to match James' original buffer diameters as well.

  • James is looking more real every time I see your videos. Keep up the good work!

  • Very nicely done, gotta say. Guess he needs that chain-link coupler...and that face...and he'll be just about ready for prime-time.

  • great work!!!!!!

  • Brilliant work. Just brilliant. :)

  • I wouldn't be surprised if people are asking 'Where did you get the TV Series Model James' :)

  • This project keeps getting better and more accurate with each update; Allcroft and Mitton would be proud. Keep up the fantastic work!

  • Another fine piece of work, mate, well done :D

  • Very nice Kurt. I'll have to dig out my Bachmann G Scale Thomas set sometime and make a video for you. =)

  • @ThompsonLine - Looking forward to it. Come to think of it, I could have used some footage of one for this video, but I don't own one. Only the Ernest equipment is standard G in my fleet.

P.S.: Did you get the R/C truck working per my advice?

  • @cudak888 I've been tight on cash lately, but I still have the PM you sent me with all the info so when I get the time I'll see about heading to my local hobby shop and pick up the stuff I need. I'm also planning on repainting the truck so that may take a little work too. I'll be sure to upload a video of it when I have compleated my work on it. =)

  • @ThompsonLine - Sounds good. Rule of thumb #1 though: Repaint after it works perfectly. Not before.

  • Just wondering, are you planning on giving James a smoke generator?

  • @NarrowGaugeEngine - Possibly. The Ernest: Reloaded series will give me an idea of the effectiveness of doing so with conventional smoke generators installed for stack smoke. I might wind up CGI'ing the stack smoke, and using the conventional method for the cylinder cocks.

  • this is looking soooo awesome!!!! James always was my fav engine when i was kid and you've brought him back to life. can't wait to see what he looks like in the end. wish i could do what you do, you've got a real talent! :)

  • This is cool, James looked like he's the real model from the actual series. Will his series of faces will be finished soon?

  • @cruiseshipz - I started on one face, and it's been sitting ever since. In the process of letting it sit around, I did find out that uncured Sculpy III will melt plastic.

I might - just might - try having a face made by Shapeways (3D plastic printing). It might work.

  • This is just getting better and better, when'd u think it'll be finished?

  • this is cool id luv to see james with his coupling rods on, are they expensive?

  • @TheSI3DRemakist - They'll have to be laser etched or carefully crafted out of a sheet of steel. I honestly don't know which route I'll go with. Time will tell; I never expected to use the Bachmann buffers either.

  • @cudak888, eek...laser etched carefully crafted? Neither of those sound easy... :L

Hope everything goes well for you though!

  • @TheSI3DRemakist - Look at it this way, it hasn't been easy from the start ;)

  • @cudak888, true true....if you are doing Reverand Awdry's Characters i know who i would be looking forward to the most: Donald And Douglas, although one step at a time eh?

  • Another great progress video. James is coming along great. I know the final product will be worth the wait. You are fantastic scratch-builder!

The ending was a nice laugh.

    Keep it up! :)

  • amazing i am so amazed by your artwork :)
