  • i love the funny sound error wen he starts his turns in second in the coda, ha!

  • she's amazing, but her hands have always bothered me.

  • @balletdancer41 I totally agree! I watched a recent performance of hers though and her port de bras has definitely improved.

  • Que lindo esto. Parece magico.

  • What's with the Gamzatti variation

    ???

  • lol he's so unmusical, and the thing he did in the end of the coda was the result of hesitation when doing a 540...

  • Mr. Fatal: Well, well, for a guy who uploaded such crap as you did. your opinion on musicality and art is worthless. Go and review some street fight sequence or other sleazy stuff.

  • unmusical my ass. he's an amazing technician and more musical than a lot of dancers. The jump in the coda isn't supposed to be a 540 its a tandeflush and is used by more people than just him such as Fernado Bujones. for someone who doesn't even have any ballet videos up you talk a lot of shit.

  • oh I love her, I think she is much better in this than some other videos, earlier I never was a really fan of her...

  • i think palomas pirouettes were perfect and she the way she holds her head looks very graceful. When she was doing some pirouettes that travelled across the stage (sorry i dont know what its called) ithought it was quite unusual how her fingers were placed as she came out of each pirouette. Is this just a particular type of training that she has had.?

  • I'm not sure on this but I THINK it is part of the technique in like South America.

  • what do you mean by that?????remember Paloma is now Prima Ballerina in ABT (that is NORTH America

  • I am so glad she grew out of that open mouth nonsense!

This video is proof on how much a dancer grows and developps, even when in a company.

  • i like Acosta better than Carreno. also Carreno is a big time womanizer. =)

  • OMG! This is amazing, and some of you guys say that paloma herrera isn't good enough or whatever- I can tell you one thing, she's better than you! And besides, shes only like 21 in this performance!

  • I like better the one with Angel Corella. And Paloma its great!

  • angel has so much less technique than carreno. in other words angel sucks

  • well i wouldn't say he sucks... I saw him perform in Le Corsaire about a year or two ago and he was fantastic

of course in 1996 he wasn't as good as Jose Manuel Carreno because he was like 20 and Jose's older...

I like both of them for different reasons =)

  • also, angel is too feminine in his dancing imo... of course angel doesnt suck at ballet, otherwise he wouldnt be a professional ballet dancer, but he is difinetely not my kind of dancer...

  • CORRECT music credits - opening adage is by Drigo, it is his Nocturne "Dreams of Spring". Male var. is by Yuli Gerber, it is from Petipa's 1870 balet "Trilby". The female solo, which is not the traditional one danced by Medora in this pas de deux, is from Cesare Pugni's score for Petipa's 1866 ballet "Florida", & is traditionally danced in the "Paquita" Grand pas. The coda is credited to Drigo, but I suspect it is taken from one of Pugni's scores.

  • Aurora in "The Sleeping Beauty" :) I was comparing her performance here to there.

  • I like Paloma Herrera best as Aurora. But she's wonderful. And of COURSE, Carreno is one of the BEST. Such beautiful control, and what gorgeous lines!

  • i think it's interesting to se how much she's improved as a dnacer from this time till 2007.

I still don't like her port de bras though

  • I agree; I would like to see more epaulement. They are very strong, but need to go over the poses. This is often a problem in dancers trained to face forward all the time in their classes. If they do all their center work facing corners in poses, the poses become second nature. Blame the training, but even professionals can still learn it.

  • i agree with you pozzle, i still don't like her port de bras either (and i do usually like the SAB trained hands and fingers - just not hers). More importantly, she unfortunately never developed her artistry, despite all that talent. It's one of the sadder cases in ballet today.

  • hey guys- you've got some info wrong!

Paloma herrera joined ABT when she was 15- was promoted to soloist at age 17- and principal dancer at age 19 (setting a record as youngest principal dancer in ABT!)

  • Paloma was born in 1975 & now she's 32 years old...

  • paloma joined ABT in 1991 when she was 16 years old. In 1993 she was promoted soloist & in 1995 she became principal @ age 20. In this video, she's prolly 20 or 21.

  • she dances the coreography of Gamzatti's variation from LA Bayadere on the music of male variation from PAquita! Amazing!

  • yeah you right!

  • me encanto!!!

  • how old is paloma now? isn't she still really young? like 20's or something? so if this was in 1996... she was like crazy young!! ughh! so good!

  • paloma joined ABT in 1991 when she was 18 or 19 years old.

  • shes really good. but after her fouettes she made this really weird face. and hes really good too.

  • love the dancing but geeee that pink tutu and these turkish pants should not be on the stage together lol:D but LOVE paloma in this great performance:) and i do like josé's jumps!! i love it how it seems like he stopps in the air for just a second!:D love it;)

  • redivy...thanks for all that energy you put on your comments but youtube is internat. & you missed the spanish comment about this only vid. (She is rather mechanical & uninspiring)also, my comment about her not been accepted to nycb was in form of question. Rumor has it? but I guess it was only a rumor.

  • I definitely dont agree with some remarks that criticize Paloma, I've watched her dancing Don Quijote and Swan Lake and I can tell she knows how to play a character. These are two completely different ballets and her Kitri and Odette/ Odile were gorgeaus.

  • gorgeous

  • i thought the pas de deaux was very good.i always thought that jose has probably got the best port de bras and poise ive seen in a male dancer, unfortunately i didnt see it in his solo this time.paloma's solo was very good.i enjoyed this peformance very much.thanx for uploading it

  • Not a very mature performance from Paloma but not bad at all.

    That pink tutu is awful.

  • the pink costume is awful

  • really really awful. looks like some cheap school performance costume.

  • While it's up to you to praise or critique some dancers. You should not give false remarks.

Paloma was never rejected by NYCB, rather she chose ABT rather than NYCB.

This was taken from Dance magazine article, Dec 1994 by Jobn Gruen:

Herrera's workshop performance would undoubtedly have earned her entry into New York City Ballet. But the dancer chose another path.

  • "Two days after my SAB workshop performance, I learned that American Ballet Theatre was holding auditions. I decided I had to take it. At the time, Jane Hermann was ABT's director.

  • She saw my audition. When it was over, Miss Hermann offered me a contract to enter the corps de ballet of American Ballet Theatre. It was the happiest day of my life."

What was the lure of ABT?

"ABT has everything--including Balanchine," says Herrera. "I knew that once I joined the company, I would eventually do all the classical ballets. I would get to do Tudor, Mille and MacMillan and many other choreographers. I would dance in so many different styles.

  • "Of course, New York City Ballet is also a wonderful company. When I was at SAB I went to many performances and really learned a lot just by watching. And there are ballets I really love, like Symphony in C, Serenade, Raymonda Variations, Who Cares?-they are so beautiful! But right now, ABT is the place for me to be."

    -Dance Magazine article end-

  • Thanks for corecting that false information. I am a huge fan of Paloma and it rally hurts me to read the remarks left in this video.

Si hubiera ido a parar a otro ballet segúro sería impresionante.

  • Yes, indeed! :)

  • Paloma is gorgeous :)
