Very nice that Sinterklaas (Sint Nicolaas) is also beeing celebrated in the USA! Recently I brought some 'kruidnootjes' and 'pepernoten'(peppernuts) to our friends in California, and they said the whole history of Sinterklaas is a very nice one. Wouldn't it be nice if in CA they wold start to celebarte it too. Btw: did you know that the figure Santa Clause was actually based upon Sint Nicolaas? And that Sint Nicolaas really existed?
just a reminder i grew up in holland my whole first 17 years of life and i never heard or seen this stupid shit....... i guess thats what happens when your brown in holland!
We'll, then you have been about the only one that did not celebrate Sinterklaas. Because when I go to a so called 'home of Sinterklaas', here in the Netherlands, I see all kinds of kids, white, brown, black, christian and muslim, Dutch and foreign. And they all like it! Because 'Sinterklaas' is a nice tradition for all kids (and their parents btw)
Ooh! How nice :) en how cool the kids can sing in Dutch :)
I'm telling you, Santa Claus is a cheap rip-off of Sinterklaas. Even his name 'Santa Claus' comes from 'Sinter Klaas'! God bless the good people in Holland MI who make this happen!
Cool to see how well you ve kept my favourite childhood celebration and you guys can still speak Dutch so well too!
look at the link here a friend of mine near Boston who had ancestors here in Leiden has put the old music in a more modern style, i think you may like it!
Without Sinterklaas (Santa Claus) you wouldnt have christmas ;).
This is a dutch tradition it's great to see those kids actually sing it in dutch! The helpers of Sinterklaas in Holland are black, because they go down chimneys ;) they are not black b
sorry , but I don't care about being potitically correct! I was born in Holland and zwarte piet is zwarte which means Black no matter how you put it!!! Zwarte and I mean Zwarte ! Please! sing it in dutch since when did he (sinterklaas speaks english if he did it would be spanish he came from spain!
that is why sinterklaas has notting to do there im also sick of it that hey always confuse it with christmas and they are to stupid to see the difference between a hanging santa hat and a bishops mitre
Black Pete is black from the ashes in the chimney. He come thru the chimney to bring gifts. This comes from ancient germanic folklore about odin and the wildhunt.
Why is it not allowed? thats just weird. Its not even remotely racist and black people here certainly don't have problems with it. Zwarte piet is just as imtortant as sinterklaas himself. They are his helpers, so they HELP him. Its not that they are his workers. I think if you explain the cultural story from here to people in the US, they'd understand.Good though to see Sinterklaas is making more kids around the world hapy :)
They can party what they want in the USA, but the Dutch Sinterklaas rules! And why is Zwarte Piet white? I think Americans haven't realy understand the role of Zwarte Piet.....
Yes, it is done. A great deal of Michigan's population is of Dutch descent. :) I remember attending Tulip Time with my class, people were dressed in costumes and made wooden clogs for you to buy. There was food, music, a parade, etc.
omg why are the zwartepieten white?,and for the people who think i am a racist, its not racisme its a tradition.. and does the woman on 1.03 says "pepernoten?" sounds verry strange when someone with an american accent does say that haha.
@EerselZuid the Pieten arn't black because that wouldn't be PC (politically corretct) I know, but try to explain that to an American! And it was me that said "pepernoten?" and I am Dutch, but Ihad been in Michigan for a couple of months by then, so maybe I had a bit of an accent, I don't know. But anyway they didn't have pepernoten, they had suckers! Good thing I could buy pepernoten at the Dutch Store in Grand Rapids!
Loooll... Man, I live in Colorado, they don't have any of this here. Anyways, merry christmas everyone ! Of salig kerstmas aan jullie Nederlanders :D Oh, en gelukkig niew jaar ook, lol

what the song they all sang in town before Sinterklaas?
berton73 2 years ago
