in neither classical or ecclesiastical (church) latin is 'ae' pronounced as 'ay. clssical is pronounced like 'i' in 'time' and church latin as 'e' in 'pet'
I think, that only a few Americans can spell Latin right, because most of you spell Latin same way as English.I have studied Latin about 5 years. I'm Finnish, and the right way to spell Latin is same as spell Finnish, because the guy who created our language hundreds of years ago, studied Latin. And his teacher was Martin Luther, who was professional Latin speaker. So we Finns can spell Latin right way. I have studied Latin about 5 years.
@2502a25 I'm sorry if the music is an inconvenience to you, but have you ever heard of such thing as the mute button? You can just mute this video or turn the volume way down so you don't have to listen to it. Hell, you can even play Mozart or Beethoven or whatever in the background after muting this video.
sorry to say this little girl but ur pronunciations need a lot of work and u should put in notes where they're wrong like mus-mouse, is pronounced like moose not muss and many others because others are gonna take this to class and get these wrong

Guys, even the native Latin speaker barely even knew all of this. not many of them even knew the correct ways to conjugate verbs. they just went with what they thought it was. Latin was tough even for the natives. So don't pick on this person
im sick of people saying its wrong or incorrect, its most likely to be because its 2000 years old! and no one really speaks it anymore, so no one really knows how its pronounced and if somebody does, it would take a lifetime to pronounce it and speak it fluent. Its a very tough language people. Interesting though :)
writen latin wasn spoken latin either ppl spoke vulgar latin and hgad different regional dialects that evolved in to Hispanic(including portugese), french, romanian, and italian
Whenever you learn a new noun (or verb, for that matter) you learn two words: For nouns, you learn the nominative (Subject-- The boy) and genitive (Possessive-- Of the boy), which tell you how to decline the rest. So when you learn Puer (Nominative), you also have to learn Pueri (Genitive) M.
Hi! Can you read and record a poem of Horacium: Exegi monumentum aere perennius regalique situ pyramidum altius, quod non imber edax, non aquilo impotens possit diruere aut innumerabilis annorum series et fuga temporum. non omnis moriar multaque pars mei vitabit Libitinam: usque ego postera crescam laude recens, dum Capitolium scandet cum tacita virgine pontifex: dicar, qua violens obstrepit Aufidus .... ? it will be great! thanks!
I must agree with bassman1201. I'm glad you are interested in Latin but it's more complicated then this. And teaching it this way, people will think they can say "puer" in every sentence and it'll fit. But it won't, at all. You *have to* write the word in this syntax "puer, -i, m." which means that "puer" is singular nominative of the word boy, "pueri" is singular genitive of the word boy, and by the syntax you can see that it's the II. declension (with an exception because of the -er).
Also, Leo is more like Lay-oo Just saying. :[ My Latin teacher is from Spain and he knows like a million languages. And he said that it takes forever to pronounce them correctly. But still i love the idea :D
yes the pernounciation sounds very british. but keep in mind that latin was spoken in the whole old world, so there surelly were a lot of pernounciations and they all spoke the "correct" latin.. there aren't wrong or correct pernounciations. even numbers have been wrote in different ways. example for 18: XVIII or XIIX
As a Latin Student I can tell you that many of your pronounciations are incorrect. As well as, the beginning grammer you give is not very beginning. Example: Infans is a third declension noun, not for beginning latin. Also, the months are very unimportant to know.
That's right! Like "mus" isn't pronounced with a short "uh" like "muss" in English, but the "u" is long, like "oo"....you should pronounce "mus" like "moose" in English.
Im not positive but my english teach told me "quid" can mean many different question words he also says if it begins with "Qu" its usually a question sentence. great video. (:
the pronunciation sounds VERY english, sorry I don't know latin. However is this really the real pronunciation? In the first word you pronounce the "r" as in the english word "car". I'm not saying I'm right but. Am I not?
no its not suppose to have the english accent, i know latin, and the person who made this didnt pronounce almost anything right, so pronounce it without the accent basically
no she didnt, there are certain ways you are suppose to stress the letters, thats like sayin there isnt a spanish accent, yes there is you dont pronounce all the letters the same as you do in english
No it isnt. But im having trouble rolling R's in Latin. But the u's are like long O sounds in English, the H is absent, and the C is a K which she got right in the last video.
Your videos are great. thanks a lot for the help. i wana learn latin because is the base language for all the languages i know, which are Spanish english and some french. Keep posting tigris =P

Puer (Subject)
Pueri ("Possessive")
Puero (Indirect object-- think of someone handing you a pen- you're the indirect object, because they aren't really touching you)
Puerum (Direct object- the pen that the person is handing you)
Puero (After prepositions)
Puer (Vocative- for when you're talking to the boy)
there are six more for plural, making twelve (slightly) different endings for each noun.
You learn a new, different series of endings for the different declensions.
Latin's tough.

The full declension is, in the singular:
