i have a t-40, im missing a few screws and one of the humbuckers doesnt work unless i wiggle stuff around. but it was FREE! and thats how i got my first bass. lol
my high school had one just jike this! i hated it cause i wanted to be the guitar player but wasnt good enough. my buddy got the bass somehow, and i havnt seen it in years. im gonna track that thing down!
This era of Peavey instruments were some of the best made fugly-ass guitars and basses ever. I just can bring myself to play something that doesn't look cool.
It's funny the only ones you see is the natural finish ones the also had them in white and black colors. I knew somebody that had one in the early 1980s in highschool. His was natural.
sweet. my son stole his t-40 off Craigslist for a price that would make you cry... had a tech look at it & ended up modding... coil tapped the pick-ups by robbing the phase switch and adding 2nd switch. Sweet old USA Bass with style up the Wazoo.
Yes, but the strings would bright up the sound more. I am old school. i can get the old sound by the tone and amp settings. Easier than the bright metallic sound you get from newer strings. I will some day put a set on and repost. Enjoy your bass, Frank said 250 or 300 on ebay, you prove it right. I like the bass it plays well.
@universalrenote see, that's the problem. the only way to bring out this things real tone is to put new bright strings on it. i know like 90% of bass players like their bass to have low thumpy strings, but i'm a damn tone freak!! doesn't really help for some one like me.. just throwing it out there.
you said the string are dead it may just be the sound a 30 year old bass you dont get that from a new guitar i love that vintage tone and it mite could use some new srtings.i picked up one on ebay today for 300.00 not to bad of a deal
you say the strings are dead it may just be this is about 30 years old bass guitar and its got that vintage tone i love that sound you dont it that from any new guitar sorry..
I own two of these, one like this and a black one. I used to also have a black T-60 guitar.

Would never buy that bass for the price!

I paid that much in early 80's and it's the BEST $200 I ever spent on any instrument! I'd give double that for a nice one now.

you have your phase switched on... That means you humbuckers are split but the coils are in phase so you get an 'tube' sound.
If you turn one pickup off you have only one singlecoil on and that sounds nice too :D
Jeur18 2 years ago
My high school had one of these and it was the heaviest guitar I have ever picked up. Way heavier than a Warwick Thumb. It plays very nice though.
