Alright, so I am pretty new to mountain boarding. Always saw em on TV and figured wow that's really cool, went garage selling with my dad and saw a guy with one for sale. Fairly cheap, he said his son used to do competitions before college so I said, 'it must be a worthy board.' I live out in Temecula, so I got some dirt in my backyard, built some jumps and having a blast. On topic, any tips on tricks or best place to ride around here?

go for a trampa if you like heavy boards or your a paraplegic and are looking to break your no longer working legs, i say this because they bottom out are are obscenely stiff.

GI have dodgy build quality and their customer service is more shocking than hitler's gas bill..

oh, and I recommend heelstraps, they really help freestyle riding. Don't go for a brake unless your into gnarly freeride or just want to cruise about.

just thought I'd post something to help people looking for boards. Adults or teenagers need to go something like the mbs core 95 minimum, ideally look for a 2nd hand pro 16 on ebay. Also look out for a pro 12, pro 95 or pro 100 if you have the cash. The new scrub GLD DH is great value for money too. Remember, you get what you pay for. For kids look out for mbs comp 6, or a core 90. An mbs core 1 is the best board for teeny little riders. I can't speak for trampa or GI, never used one.

What if I cut out a deck in the shape of a mountain board (1/2 in. plywood) and put some way nice trucks, wheels, bearings, v-brake, and bindings on it...which would be better, that or an MBS ATOM 95X? Please reply, don't just comment

@Rinocerente - Go with a Comp 95X. Its way better then the Atom. Are you just starting out? You could cut your own deck if you wanted to then buy some Matrix trucks, wheels and V5 brake system...Not sure how it would work...you would probably just snap the homemade deck...

@skateralways - Ya, the atom is super awesome. Love the brake systems on them, opens up where you can ride. I got a Comp 95X, which is like the upgraded Atom. Its pretty sweet, but I had to drop more cash for it...ALOT more. They need to have the brake system available on more boards then just the Comp and Atom I think...

They all have some kind of binding but only some have brakes although some allow you to add a brake.

What do you define as real skating? you probably cant even throw down on your short board, most every one ive seen that is half way decent at skating will be pumped for you no matter what type you do. also you should try real longboarding were you atleast break 35, it will help you with normal skating and everything else you do. and if you do skate you should pick it up pretty quick, just learn to do slides so you can do real hills without runouts.

It helps, but I can't skate for shit, and I'm pretty good now. Snowbaording is very different, but it still helps with balance and lack of fear.

just went snowboarding for the first time and I mtboard. They are very different, but I still think it helped, and its very gd fun. All the turning is with the upper body on a snowboard rather than the legs, but I bet you'll be gd at it.
