My friend bought a Bugera 1990 and a matching cab.The sound was awful,i don't know is it some kind of problem with the amp or is it just peace of junk. Then he had a problem with the volume control. He took the amp to a local music store and repaired the volume problem but the sound is absolutely the same.It sounds messy, too trebly, the prescence knob is just awful and the gain isn't so "high gain" he uses a fender 90's strat with texas special single coils. What should he do ?
@RockMailou Well, you don't play high gain with single coils. The single coils are just going to make it ultra noisy. Also, he probably isn't EQing well.
Beauty of a review man. I was lookin into Bugera recently being as I heard it has a... dare I say "Marshall-esque" sound to it and a lot of my personal favourite artists used Marshall amps. Being however as I'm simply an 18 year old kid from Canada I don't have the fat wallet Marshall users such as Billy Corgan have, so I just want to thank you for these videos because it opened my eyes to a much more economical way to get the tones I'm looking for. I'm definitely giving ya a 5 star.
@Rawm3r I bought the 1990 for $450 a few months ago and it's pretty good, however I wish I bought a Blackstar HT-100 instead. The price difference ($300) was the main reason I chose the 1990 but I wish I would have waited and saved up and got the Blackstar. The tone is unreal,I can't say enough about it. I will pick one up as soon as finances allow. Either the Blackstar or an Egnater Armageddon($1600),another sick amp, which comes out around Jan 2012.
I bought one of these NEW and it squeals randomly, shuts of and switches channels and no one seems to have a solution. It's been in a Bugera official repair shop and they can't get it to reproduce the squeal. I'll be pissed if I have to eat the $450 I spent on it, besides the tubes I bought and had installed. It would be nice if someone could give me an explanation. It does sound pretty sweet, I have to admit, I would love if it worked.
@angushetfield13242 this is what i was thinking, i want that rust in peace growl. But i also want ot be able to turn it up if i want to. Nothing a TS 808 tubescreamer cant fix.
@1withguitar I'm not the guy in the vid, I'm just some anonymous Youtube viewer, so I suppose one could take or leave my opinion, but if you want a Bugera, and you want ANY Megadeth tone from any era, the 1990 would be exactly the model to get. It's copying exactly the kind of Marshall tone that Mustaine came back to time and time again throughout his career. The only thing you might need to do is get yourself a 4x12 enclosure loaded with T75's, as he prefers that sound to typical v30's.
Best review ever . Agree with you that so many modern high gain amp ( framus , bogner , engl are said to be versatile .. but that midrange marshall crunch is just NOT on these amps . This one has THAT sound you heard 1000's of times , that midrange bite . . I was looking at an Engl ... great quality amp , great modern sound but the crunch is jsut not there . funny how people often say " glad i didnt buy the marshall and bought the Engl , framus or whatever " . IMo they cant be compared .
I'm buying this amp next paycheck!!! The past few years I've been looking at the resale value of equipment and just afraid I'm going not going to lose money with the knock off amps. It's a good sounding amp, but a JCM 900 that you buy used now for $700 will sell for $1000 in 5 years. It sucks equipment is so pricey but I am very grateful for guys like you and TTK who do these killer reviews!! I just subscribed.
You have without a doubt convinced me to get this amp. I've been using amp sims on my computer (cause I'm broke), but now I'm starting to remember how good my old JCM 900 sounded.
I play Marshall won't change but I respect your opinion about it ;) But it's certainly not as reliable as a Marshall but it sounds like a typical british Marshal Clowned Amp but still I played Bugera once and hated it but that was a different one !
(...continue from the previous) i'm going to get the 90 but the guys in the band suggest the latter... (but they didn't know about 1990), to have an idea of the sound i got to achieve we play postmetal/doom/sludge that kind of slow stuff (.. and i play HC as well with another band)... so i have no clue why they keep saying me to buy a vintage ampli to play such "modern" music, is it just sorta "fetish" fashion, or there's a reason with this fixed idea?
hi there, nice review, well i'm actually going to buy one of this beasts, i've seen onother video comparing the 1990 with the marshall jcm900 and... dammit they sound the same, well to be honest bugera is a little brighter on the clean channel, but that's ok with me and anyway you can always cut a little on the trebble nob to get the same tone. my only question is what's the sound difference between the 1990 and 1960? i'm going to get the 90 but the guys in the band suggest the latter...
First of all, appreciate the great series of reviews! YouTube is always where I go to search for sound samples and demos of music gear I may be looking to buy (axes, pups, amps, etc) - Your in depth detail, breakdown, and skilled demonstration are definitely influencing my purchasing decision. Good luck fighting off the amp snobs; full disclosure, I've owned a Triple Rec, 5150, Engl Screamer 50, and am now using a Fender HotRod Deville; if it sounds good, I'll likely get it despite brand name
Really liking yourreviews, very indepth, plus you do what 90% others don't....Mic your amps.. thank you so much. You don't think ya would ever do a 1960 review would ya?
I think it's at the time to present something like this here! cause I love Marshalls but I've never had enough money to buy me one so this is the best for a beginer who really wants a fucking good amp!!!
totally, the amp can pull off any type of music.I thought is was gonna be a shit box,and I got a tone machine.Use the tone setting in your head and your up and running with this thing.
very nice tone I run mine with prs guitars, a chorus, wah, and tuner, dont need much with this amp its got every thing you need to get that amazing tone!
sweet. my guitarist has a 6260 (plays rythm) but i wanted more a marshall tone. for myself, and was thinking of getting a jcm 900 as well, then he showed me this.
The jcm 900 was the amp of my dreams. this being half price, just BECAME the amp of my dreams :D
Ad al i can say is you better have gotten that 333 and fruit basket man :D
as a longtime touring musician and Marshall user (30+ years)- I must say...these Bugera's (1990 &1960) seem to sound really great. Because of your videos on these....I may just have to go buy one. Great vid.
thanks!!
ps- c'mon Bugera....send him a fruit basket bitches!!
hey, great review, but i have one question. i play a lot of different things. From jazz to metal and everything in between. i also have a line 6 pod x3 live, wich im planning to use just for the fx, would this amp work for me? and what cab would you recommand, it has to be a bit portable too:P
I'm buyin' me one of these "bitches" 2morrow... Questions left;
How does this bitch hold up to a drummer goin' all-out?
Is the sound still as good at volume-level 8 or 9 as it is at 4 or 5?
I'm in dire need of an amp that sounds like this one, even at really high level.
My current amp claims to give me 120watts, but in reality starts to break down past 5. It doesn't even deserve to excist. That thing will be burned in a cleansing-ritual once i got me the 1990.
Hey man, great review, makes me wanna go out and buy one of these but i have a question first
I really like the cleans on that amp, and i really want an amp with good cleans, this is why i dont really want to get a 6262
But i play a lot of metal and i wanted to know if i could make the lead channel sound as aggressive as the one on the 6262 if i enhanced it with some pedals (something like a TS-9 Tubesceamer or something)
Your review are very professional, you have earned yourself a new subscriber. I have a quick question, For someone who plays mostly metal (everything from Metallica to Arch Enemy) would you recommend the 333XL or the 1990?
Ey waths ups dude, I just buy muy buguera 1990 yesterday, and I was wandering how to take care of it, because I don`t want to brake it down berry soon. And also, wath is the swish that saids: priode and pentode, waths that for?

Im still undecided hah its a bitch tryin to find the tone i want at a working musicians price, the Blackstar I played has pretty much the tone I want. I just hate that when you turn the EQ knobs it barely changes the tone, I remember playing the 1990 at Guitar Center when they had it, it sounded good but i didnt crank it, i should have.
I was set on getting either a Peavey 5150/6505 or the Bugera 6260 or a Blackstar ht 5 or 20, and now this review makes me add the 1990 to the list, fuck why does there have to be so many amps when i need one asap. I dont know if you could help me but im lookin for that George Lynch, Randy Rhoads plexi tone but idk if i should go big or go home and just get a hi wattage half stack, im in an 80s hair metal band if that helps.
@sambirach i think the 6260/6505's are a good choice. The 1990 is a straight forward mid-gain amp. Cranking it like a plexi won't change it. As far as the 1960 (an actual plexi) goes, I have no experience with them. The 62's get there at bedroom volume and only get nice with volume. Good luck.
@sambirach i would say the 6260 or the blackstar. i prefer the blackstar. that thing sounds so clean and pure on the clean channel and the distortion. its a shame blackstar is so pricey
Hey Dude, I have a question: can you switch the 5881 power tubes to EL34? Some amps will tell you if the power tubes can be swamped out to convert to 6L6s or EL34, and the Bugera web site tells you nothing about that... I don't know, maybe you're not suppose to I guess... thanx if you can get back to me... you're video is by far exelent and very informative.
Hey man I love ur vids! I was looking to buy a 600 buck 6505 peavey one by 12 model and I watched your video coming in thinking that Bugera was crap and u completely changed my mind!!! I am a huge fan of the Mesa Boogies and I was exctatic to learn bugera is making a new amp based of the triple rectifier called the Trirec! I would love it if u couyld do a review of it! Thanks man! Great video's, reviews, tone, style (you got me into EVH), and playing!
Bugera have really surprised me. They sound so good and at such an affordable price, i can buy a half stack and 3 of their heads for the price of the marshall rig i was planning for live work
It's about time we get a review from a normal person! I've played through the 333 and it sounded great, but I'm looking at getting the 1990.I've had alot of Berringer gear through the years and never had a problem with any of it.Thanx for the info.,bitch
@1FISHEY Wanna hearing too much talking? Watch a TTK video. most annoying demos ever. Its hard as hell to watch a gear demo when they guy demoing cant play more than a G chord and you have to hear his nasty basement reverb and piss poor tone....Bitches!
Reliability issues ?? I've owned this Bugera 1990 amp with the 4X12 cabinet since late may 2009...I play in bars 3 hours a night ,6 to 8 times per month....knock wood...no problems at all...not a single tube squeal or any other issue...this amp weighs alot cause it's solid...I love it !!
Hey mtuck, what do you prefer between this amp and the 6262? I play a lot of Van Halen music and the like, but also a bit of blues. Just wondering your input.
dam it bugera this guy earned his fruit basket with these hype reviews!!!!!!send it already!! your vids rock dude, how bout a review of your carvin next?
hey thanks for you review bud! I cant wait til i get to guitar center down here, i hope these amps sound badass with 7 string guitars, have you ever played one into that amp?
Just like the story of EVH's Franky Guitar....What he had like 150.00 total into that Guitar!! and Its now one of if not THE most Known Guitar in the WORLD!!!....And dont forget how good that Guitar Sounds!!!.Its not about how much it is...ITS ALL ABOUT THE SOUND!!!or TONE!!!!
I dont fucking care if an amp is made by Marshall,Engl,Mesa,Bugera or your fat momma,if its good its good no matter the price or brand.Stupid fanboys, ball suckers.I would buy a Marshall if the money were well spent. Why waste hundreds of bucks on an amp thats only slightly better than another one thats immensely cheaper?
I agree, what should only matter is tone and price. More well known company doesn't mean more reliability. In fact, I've seen the opposite. Most moderately high end companies sacrifice reliability for price. They'll jack up the price, far higher than it deserves.
i agree, my acoustic guitar is a Seagull s6 original (look it up) and its from a conadian company, who martin and taylor get there products for guitars from, it is the same quality as a martin and plays beautifully and i payed 500!...but sometimes when it comes to things expensive can be better...paying 4 or 5 hundred more for somethin usually is just jackin up the price of the name....but if your goin from 900-3000 or 4 grand...totally different story, usually is much better quality
It seems a really nice amp, with lots of personality and indeed that marshall like tone.I hate purists and fanboys.Little close minded fags.
But I gotta tell you,I sure loved your 6262 review, and that one,my good friend, its hot as the deepest flames in hell...What a fucking great amp for half a dozen bucks...
the only reason marshall lovers say stuff like that is cause they have already bought one and now realise shit i could have bought two bugeras for the price of this
Hey Bro Thanks for your great reviews of the "Bugera" amps. I own the 6262 and the 33XL .Ive had them all, a double stack Marshall back in the early 70's Fenders ,Kustoms, tubes, solid state etc. my Bugera's plain KICK ASS ! I can afford these !! thanks again !! TITANICUS13
hey, damn im not gonna lie, i tried this amp at guitar center, and the same day i went to my friends house and tried his 900, and wow.
although there was a little difference, but definitely nowhere near enough where you would pay the marshall price. i really do hope bugera will send you a 333xl because youre very deserving of one. im still torn between the 6262 or the 333xl.
hey man i just wanted to say love the way you do you're review it's well done i wish al of the reviwes were like you'res great job and yes bugera should sponsor you with what ever you ask for. now witch of the bugera line you'd recomend the most?
In all seriousness, i was searching guitarcentr and musiciansfriend for a marshall. because i really wanted a nice amp. came across the 900. loved it. not the price. saw this 1990, watched every video there was untill know which i am sure the problum of my concern is fixed, being i will pick this hell of an amp head up as soon as possible. nice blackjack. nice video. iv always liked bugera, and you just keep giving others reasons to like there gear.
There's really not much of a difference between 60 and 120 watts. Yes, it's a bit louder, but 120 watts IS NOT twice as loud as 60 watts. It's more like 100 watts is twice as loud as 10 watts, according to our ears.
first off,you make the best videos they are.hands down.i can tell you put alot of time and effort into it and we appreciate your reviews for helping us decide if this the amp for us.i for one am ordering mine a week and half and i cant wait as far as it being mushy by some guy i dunno bout that i didnt find yours mushy at all.any way man kudos keep up the good reviews comin.
I've watched all your Bugera amp videos now, and you're a hell of a salesman. No BS, honest to god reviews of the amps. Thanks for using YouTube to spread the word. I've GOT to try one of these out.
i AM a touring musician and i play all over the west coast i run this thing in an amp case and it keeps it safe. if you buy one... switch out the stock stovek tubes for some good 6L6's and you'll be even more pleased than the first time your plaugged it in.
i run this through a marshall jcm 800 lead series 4x12 cab. it has celestion g12's and it screams!!!!
Crap! I thought that I would go for the 6262 (thanks to your 6262 videos) before watching this video. Now I have to decide all over again. That EQ section is the only thing holding me back from the 1990.
Question for mtuck5150, in regards to different sounds, is the 6262 more versatile than the 1990?.
Hey man, i'm exactly in your situation. This review made me change my mind. I wanted a 6262 but the 1990 sounds beautiful! And your right, fucking EQ! Do you think it can be fixed up with an external EQ?
I can totally see bugera upping their prices in a year. Thats what happened to blackheart amps...they used to be reeeeally inexpensive then when they started stocking them more regularly the prices shot up probably another 100-200 bucks
Whats up mtuck...thanks for the awesome review. We Florida boys need to keep making great guitar vids. I'm in Gainesville. I have a 6505, but a 333 would definitely compliment the collection nicely. Those Bugera's sound great IMO. I've subscribed, rated 5, and left a message.
Once again as the proud owner of a 1983 JCM 800 Im not afraid to say this amp ROCKS ASS!!! Brothers come on! This amp is loud, mean and cheap! Last time I checked that was the definition of rock n' roll!!!
These reviews are so damn good compared to rest of the YouTube equipment review videos that a part of me wishes you were some loaded dude so you could buy all the Mesas, Marshalls, Bogners, etc. etc. and review them all for us.....real solid job man. Rock on.
MuthafknMATT! M'brutha..That was sum AWESOMESHIT! I laughed...I learned..Thanx bro.

Just 3 questions left;
Any cabs recommended? (aside from that insane avatar you have back there)
How does this bitch hold up to a slightly mental drummer?
I mean, does this baby still sound good at,say, level 6,7.8.9.?
Got me an amp that builders claim it will give you 120watts, but in the real world starts to make me vomit whenever I try to go past 5.
REALLY can't afford to sound like that next gig. Or ever again.

Im still undecided hah its a bitch tryin to find the tone i want at a working musicians price, the Blackstar I played has pretty much the tone I want. I just hate that when you turn the EQ knobs it barely changes the tone, I remember playing the 1990 at Guitar Center when they had it, it sounded good but i didnt crank it, i should have.
sambirach 1 year ago
I was set on getting either a Peavey 5150/6505 or the Bugera 6260 or a Blackstar ht 5 or 20, and now this review makes me add the 1990 to the list, fuck why does there have to be so many amps when i need one asap. I dont know if you could help me but im lookin for that George Lynch, Randy Rhoads plexi tone but idk if i should go big or go home and just get a hi wattage half stack, im in an 80s hair metal band if that helps.
sambirach 1 year ago
@sambirach i think the 6260/6505's are a good choice. The 1990 is a straight forward mid-gain amp. Cranking it like a plexi won't change it. As far as the 1960 (an actual plexi) goes, I have no experience with them. The 62's get there at bedroom volume and only get nice with volume. Good luck.
mtuck5150 1 year ago
@sambirach i would say the 6260 or the blackstar. i prefer the blackstar. that thing sounds so clean and pure on the clean channel and the distortion. its a shame blackstar is so pricey

Hey Dude, I have a question: can you switch the 5881 power tubes to EL34? Some amps will tell you if the power tubes can be swamped out to convert to 6L6s or EL34, and the Bugera web site tells you nothing about that... I don't know, maybe you're not suppose to I guess... thanx if you can get back to me... you're video is by far exelent and very informative.
Lourthofice 1 year ago
@Lourthofice Hi, nope, can't covert on this amp, but I believe it'll take 6L6's.
mtuck5150 1 year ago
@mtuck5150 actually i asked the same question on the bugera video for the 1990 and bugera said it will take el34s but will need to be rebiased

I dont fucking care if an amp is made by Marshall,Engl,Mesa,Bugera or your fat momma,if its good its good no matter the price or brand.Stupid fanboys, ball suckers.I would buy a Marshall if the money were well spent. Why waste hundreds of bucks on an amp thats only slightly better than another one thats immensely cheaper?
sorrow2790 2 years ago 3
I agree, what should only matter is tone and price. More well known company doesn't mean more reliability. In fact, I've seen the opposite. Most moderately high end companies sacrifice reliability for price. They'll jack up the price, far higher than it deserves.
Dimefan91 2 years ago
i agree, my acoustic guitar is a Seagull s6 original (look it up) and its from a conadian company, who martin and taylor get there products for guitars from, it is the same quality as a martin and plays beautifully and i payed 500!...but sometimes when it comes to things expensive can be better...paying 4 or 5 hundred more for somethin usually is just jackin up the price of the name....but if your goin from 900-3000 or 4 grand...totally different story, usually is much better quality

TITANICUS13
PAINFOOL13 2 years ago
great stuff one question.
witch of the bugera has the best and most creamy clean sound?
zapz2101 2 years ago
hey, damn im not gonna lie, i tried this amp at guitar center, and the same day i went to my friends house and tried his 900, and wow.
although there was a little difference, but definitely nowhere near enough where you would pay the marshall price. i really do hope bugera will send you a 333xl because youre very deserving of one. im still torn between the 6262 or the 333xl.
BCRichGuitarsFTW 2 years ago
nice review.
but i confess, soundwise i do not like this amp too much (but i also never liked the jcm900s).
to me it sounds kinda cheap marshall 2204 copy (thats why i never liked the jcm900 high gain dual reverb).
BBF3 2 years ago
hey man i just wanted to say love the way you do you're review it's well done i wish al of the reviwes were like you'res great job and yes bugera should sponsor you with what ever you ask for. now witch of the bugera line you'd recomend the most?
zapz2101 2 years ago
Haha man ! hell of a video(s) bitch! :)
In all seriousness, i was searching guitarcentr and musiciansfriend for a marshall. because i really wanted a nice amp. came across the 900. loved it. not the price. saw this 1990, watched every video there was untill know which i am sure the problum of my concern is fixed, being i will pick this hell of an amp head up as soon as possible. nice blackjack. nice video. iv always liked bugera, and you just keep giving others reasons to like there gear.
jacksonKlly 2 years ago
I would hop on these amps is 120 watts wasn't way more than I needed. If they made a 60 watt 6262-112.
That would be my amp the day it's announced.
Rickles 2 years ago
There's really not much of a difference between 60 and 120 watts. Yes, it's a bit louder, but 120 watts IS NOT twice as loud as 60 watts. It's more like 100 watts is twice as loud as 10 watts, according to our ears.

i AM a touring musician and i play all over the west coast i run this thing in an amp case and it keeps it safe. if you buy one... switch out the stock stovek tubes for some good 6L6's and you'll be even more pleased than the first time your plaugged it in.
i run this through a marshall jcm 800 lead series 4x12 cab. it has celestion g12's and it screams!!!!
i f i had to do it agian i would everytime!!!

Crap! I thought that I would go for the 6262 (thanks to your 6262 videos) before watching this video. Now I have to decide all over again. That EQ section is the only thing holding me back from the 1990.
Question for mtuck5150, in regards to different sounds, is the 6262 more versatile than the 1990?.
jad547 2 years ago
Hey man, i'm exactly in your situation. This review made me change my mind. I wanted a 6262 but the 1990 sounds beautiful! And your right, fucking EQ! Do you think it can be fixed up with an external EQ?

Once again as the proud owner of a 1983 JCM 800 Im not afraid to say this amp ROCKS ASS!!! Brothers come on! This amp is loud, mean and cheap! Last time I checked that was the definition of rock n' roll!!!

This guitar has like... the tone I'm looking for... Not too much gain, but not a lot.
PS: Are you thinking of getting a Charvel 5150-esque paintjob on your C-1? Or is it not possible with an archtop?
