I had the good fortune of being in 1980-1983. We were sure spoiled in 1980 and 1981. McGavock had a good band in 1982 but Johnie O put it to us all in 1983.
Chuck was right. This may be the most enthralling band I've ever heard.I was there at COC in '81. When they turned around and hit you,it was like..."son of a b@#$h!!".Their sound was HUGE because their pitch was so good that it made them seem twice as loud as other bands. I know "loud" is a poor choice of words there. Their low brass was unreal and I have heard literally dozens of bands try to play "Jack Miraculous". One was okay (Adair in 1984) and the others should not have tried.
My Father was in this band and now so much has changed look at my profile picture and you'll see that the uniforms are no longer white and we have a new Band Director this year.
I marched in the McGavock band at this same time, and when won the Grand Championship in 1982 it was a record high score that stood for something like a dozen yrs or more. But that all being said, the 81 Meade County band is the finest playing band I've ever heard. Their low brass sound was amazing...,and I was and still am a bone player. Great video and a exceptional band. Didn't think so at the time when we lost to them, but age and time allows one to be more objective!
You are correct. Not only Grand Champion but also at the time the highest score ever scored there and the biggest gap between first and second place. Meade County also the first marching band to put a four part trombone choir on the marching field. And had won the grand champion the year before.
I'm lookn' for the show where the flag toss at MTSU was flawless.. Help?
