I'm starting my training after I graduate from High School. I'm going to drive local for a small company and then when I'm old enough to go across state lines I will apply to work for most likely Swift or Werner on a dedicated account.
NEW YORK CITY!!! I got to drive down Broadway on my birthday last year, got a few fines for being overlength, but the experience of it all was very special to me. I delivery in the 5 boros almost weekly and it is my favorite place to be !!!
1)NEVER. I have been trying to get out for years.Worst mistake of my life.
2)Spending all that time in a box on wheels with someone you don't know(trainer)
3)Every time I have to get behind the wheel.
4)Where Ilive.Pennsylvania.Want to move to Outer banks,NC
5)Outer banks,NC
DO NOT DO IT! IT IS NOT WORTH THE AGGRAVATION! I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET OUT FOR YEARS,BUT IT LOOKS LIKE I AM STUCK SINCE I WAITED TOLONG! IT IS NOTHING BUT HEARTACHE AND MISERY 14 OR MORE HOURS A DAY!!!
Most companies that are local require you to do long distance experience first.I do local now but I have run 49 states Canada and Mexico. Local is alot harder backing into docks off of busy streets, lots of stop and go.
I still don't recommend it and I never would to anyone looking for a job.
Well i have met people that hate it and i also have met people that love it. My mom enjoyed it, i have traveled a lot, and i love driving all the time. Its a great choice for me for now. In the future if i feel it doesn't fit me then i will change to something else but its worth trying so i could see for myself if i like it.
Thanks for the advice i like it when people are honest and don't hold stuff back. I am sorry you don't like driving for a living. Why don't you go do something else?
Well, I had planned to go to Graphic design school in Oct since I enjoy making videos and photshop pictures etc etc,but they canceled classes, now they are back up April 15 but now I am not sure I want to go into debt for 35,000 dollars and two years of work from 6 to 4 and school from 530 until 10 everyday.I still have tot hink about it, or just keep looking for other opportunities.
I was in Brooklyn NY on Wednesday, frustrated and lost looking at 12"9, bridges that some you can get under some you can't looking for where I needed to go....and I got a no seatbelt ticket....130 dollars.
See i have been thinking ( live in canada ) that i was going to get my cdl at 19 at then just do local then when i hit 21 go to over the road BUT i have noticed a lot of companies won't hire people when they have such small experience. I noticed a lot of companies want Truck Drivers to have at least 5 or 6 yrs experience.
Great video

Hey Olivia..Here are my thoughts..
1) I think people should wait until their mid 20s so that they have more maturity in their character to start training.
2) Patience...It is hard when training with someone, but if you get a handle on patience early, you would have fewer problems throughout your career.
3) My worst experience was having another driver stalk me in a rest area.
4) LOL...South Carolina is my personal worst driving area.
5) I love taking 2 lane roads, but my favorite place of all is

-21 is the legal age to drive out of state but most companies want at least a year experience first.
-hardest thing for most people is backing and logs.
-worst thing was having to deal with pissed off shippers and recievers. and dumbass four wheelers.
