  • the amount of badass going on is over the top. on top of every mountain there needs to be a scottsman with bagpipes

  • the echo there must have been magnificent

  • WOW!!!!!! gives me chillls

  • WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THAT IS THE COOLEST YT VIDEO I'VE SEEN!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to do HD, but not with bagpipes, even though my wife owns a set of French bp's (cornemuse ... spelling?)

you have good lungs to bust out a tune on those things up there!

Maybe I can do you one better, and haul a piano up there to play!

    hahahah

    great video!

  • Thank you! This is great!

  • Lol love the accent

  • No emotion! Are you kidding me! Swains job mate

  • the bagpipes sound to mechanical for my tastes. No emotion.

  • @ethicks00 Emotion lies on the beholder

  • @ethicks00

you should hear them en masse. They are either beautiful or terrifying, or BOTH :D Seriously, listen to "Amazing Grace" by a highland band.

  • serenading the big granite mountains, valley, trees, waterfalls, rivers, the vast sky above, people and animals. i wonder if it echoed, but even if it didn't it had spread throughout the airwaves. wonderful.

  • badddasssss

  • Loved It.

  • Cool...and I just love your accent....: )) Peace

  • Ya-a-a-a-ay! But I think I would have liked his tempo to be a we bit o' slower.

  • i wonder if they could hear this in the village

  • Very appropriate. A distant Scottish American relative of mine - John Muir - played an important part in the foundation of Yosemite and other US national parks.

  • Most of us do nothing with this gift we have been given...(LIFE!!!) ... perhaps we should all explore the four points of this marble, in which we currently enhabit, and blow the pipe's out of respect for the gift we have been given...

  • I rated this at five stars.... they don't have ten! I will start learning the pipes this month!

  • I wish I could've been in the valley that day....mustve sounded reallly neat in the village

  • Anybody on the big meadow fire?

  • As a fellow bagpiper, and a California Sierra Nevada resident who lives 13 miles from Yosemite, I can tell you that piping on Half Dome was hard to do.

To pipe at over 8000ft elevation after a hike of 8.75mi and a vertical rise of 4500ft elevation is very difficult.

    Well done there laddie!

  • I'm going to wheel my upright piano up there!

  • Beautiful!!

  • SO glad to have found this video - my family tried to summit yesterday and couldn't beacuse some poor soul killed himself up there, and the cables were closed to the rest... this was such a better image of the beauty that is there... Thank you

  • I watch this video everytime I sign on to you tube......I wish I had been hiking the John Muir trail that day. If this wouldn't lift your spirits nothing would. Simply beautiful!!

  • I wonder if John Muir ever did that.

  • FANTASTIC

  • that was prob the first time those mountains heard the bagpipes! awesome! I amma have to take my drumkit with me up the cables the next time I go! lol

  • nice. thatd be hilarious for anyone getting up there... "hey whats that noise? is that... bagpipes" climbing up the cables.. awesome. good job!

  • I'm surprised the pipes even work in the high dry air of Yosemite. This is a really enjoyable video.

  • making a joyful noise!

  • This is actually pretty good....despite the naysayers...he may be a wee bit oout of tune...but I would challenge those to do better under the circumstances.

  • I don't know what these people are talking about, this is great.

  • pretty good.. true the tuning was off a little.. but why make such a big deal about it ?! a little constructive criticism is ok.. but don't knock someone talent.. loved your playing keep it up..

  • Comment removed

  • to NCPiper: Oh dear! Old grouches on line always make me laugh!

  • "Aye David Quinn, get ye home. "

Talk like an american. your not scottish

  • The great thing about being American is that most of us are descended from ancestors ranging over several nationalities. We have license to play whatever instruments we want, make fun of anyone's speech that we want, and dress however the hell we want....so get ye home, mr. dalriada, talk like a Scot, you're not American

  • Amen...

  • actually fail you have no right to anything, thats why u lie.

  • what? ok...

  • Sounds pretty damn good to me. And yes I play.

  • super!!!

  • what is this song called?

  • "Scotland the brave" and "higland cathedral", ....it's written. That's songs are traditionnals of Scotland.

  • But Highland Cathedral was written by germans!! ;D

  • nice

  • Awsome. From the MacDonald clan in milwaukee, Wisconsin

  • ALBA GU BRATH!

  • Wow. WOW! Wonderful piping. The Hamilton clan of Minnesota salute you.

  • Pull the Tartan over this mountain!!

This is great! Well done, Lad.

And for miles around may you always have good lungs.

  • And a Bonnie Piper this lad is. Good job. Especially enjoyed Highland Cathedral. After such a climb you did well to have the wind to play the GHB.

  • Hah, I imagine a Donald Duck comic where Donald gets a neighbour who plays the bagpipe all day long, so Donald travels to this mountain to get some peace, and then he meets this guy.

  • What an incredible view :o

  • I feel my Scot blood stir. Davie, you should play the pipes on Point Reyes.

  • Nicely DONE!

  • From one of the MacDonald Clan who lives in Northern California this is glorious!!!! Thanks davie

  • Holy CRAP. If I had just busted out a 5 hour hike and topped the mountain to THAT, I'd probably sit down and cry like a scalded toddler.

  • haha yeah seriously

  • Freekin awesome dude!!! I'm learning the pipes right now, could only hope to play like you!!!!!!

  • wow what a view...

  • I love it =D

I'm going to do the same! :D

  • YEAHHHH!!! how awesome is that!!

  • Just so everyone understands the guy piping is Davie Quinn (me) and my username is davieboy76. I left a comment that was taken out of context and marked down. If you understand I am the piper then it would not have been a derogatory comment. :)

  • bagpipes are godly

  • EPIC!!!

  • I want to party with you dude.

  • Very nicely done

  • Yes what a pity. I guess that had nothing to do with them being at 9000ft and stuffed in a backpack on a dusty trail for 5 hours!

  • They make bagpipe cases... Still...ouch.

  • agree...

  • @mc2cal You're right - playing at altitude means the tone really suffers due to the lack of pressure and oxygen. I used to play with B.Cal and was sent to Quito in Equador (about 10,000ft above sea level), where I had to play for publicity photos/TV etc. - it felt like there was a hole in the bag, I had to blow twice as hard, got a headache and the pipes squealed out of control. My worst ever performance!

  • @mc2cal How hard are they to learn?

  • absolutely beautiful and touching....

  • it sound blends with nature

  • great

  • well done!

  • Special Request: Go up there again and play

    'Highland Laddie' and 'Garryowen'.

    Thanks.

  • thats the great think i´ve ever seen with a bagpipe

    hell

    gteat

  • What a great place to play some pipes. That made my blood stir up, the homeland is calling!

  • yeah, i love this instrument!!!

longue vie aux chants des cornemuses!

  • Scotland forever!

  • Thanks for sharing this video!!! It really made my cry, regards from Argentina.

  • wats the 2nd song called?????

and where do u get the sheet music from?

    cheers

  • Highland Cathedral

  • Absolutely Brilliant. Class in a Glass.

  • I just heard this and loved it.

I wonder what was going throught peoples minds in the valley when they thought that were hearing bagpipes from on high!!

I only wish I could have been there to hear it.

  • I know this bagpipes song!

  • that was awesome my friend! i just did half dome a few weeks ago, amazing isn't it? kudos!

  • badass

  • Really cool, Who is the maker of you bagpipes? Just curious.

  • the scotish

  • really nice :-)))

    hugs and kisses to scotland.

  • i love listening to people with a thick Scottish brogue; and a nice bagpipe player too. 5*

  • niceeeee

  • NICE!

  • Very good piping. Good thinking packing your glengarry cap along with the pipes!

  • hahahaha "he should wear a kilt because he's in scotland" , that's funny. you ever take a geography class?

  • That is awesome. What a place to play some pipes!

  • Haha, I've been to Yosemite countless times. I always thought Half Dome was the prettiest thing there.

  • good job mate.

  • Would have been awesome if he dressed as a Highlander and everybody else dressed as foot guards. :D :D

  • whats with the shorts? should be wearin a kilt =p

  • but then people below him would see his balls

  • lmfao, that would be more entertaining then.^_^ he still should wear a kilt cuz hes in Scotland and playin the pipes =p

  • it would be difficult to hike in one i imagine! lol

  • He's not in Scotland, he's in California.

  • he is?

  • try reading.

  • What pipe does this guy use? it has a lovely sound and i'm going to buy me self some new pipes later on this year.

  • bagpipes, it says in the title

  • I meant as in Bagpipes what brand does he use eg. Mc Callum or something

  • They are McCallum...good guess!! Bought them in the factory at Kilmarnock. They were outta tune but good pipes.

  • I have no idea. sorry that i couldn't help tho =/

  • He looks like BONO hahaha.

    yehyehyehyehyeh.

and your tassle is caught ;)

  • weeiirrrddd

  • Love the accent And the people

    Bless Scotland !

  • yes, we are.

  • dude u shoulda put out a case or somethin:P think how many ppl would pay jsut to be able to see that... and anyone who criticizes the quality of sound now...shame on you and btw dude:P next time bring ure pipe band:P that'd kill to hear and see

  • Long as 'e ain't a Campbell.

  • im a campbell

  • As am I

  • I have already played at the White House with an orchestra called A.F.O. the Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra. One step ahead of ye!!

  • Awesome! Would've been better if you had a drummer with you.

  • jo, flipante! !

  • i want to play the bagpipes :D

  • drones out of whack and a bit slow, but otherwise nasty!

i have a cottage on lake erie and play my pipes often in the evenings. its dead silent and the water's still. ive been told i can be heard playing almost a mile ayaw at another neighboring bay. its the same idea with the sound being able to travel well. great job!

  • THAT WAS FANTASTIC

  • that looks amazing! i couldnt think of anything better to hear at the top of a mountain :-)

  • And I thought us English were excentric, nice one my man.

  • Thanks!

  • Super!! Bagpipes kick ass.

  • does anyone know what the forst bagpipe song was?

  • The tunes were Scotland the Brave and Highland Cathedral- he actually lists them if you click "more" under About this Video. I was just at Yosemite last fall and thought it would be great to play my pipes when I was on Glacier Point directly across the valley from Half Dome. I stupidly forgot to take my pipes with me.

Slainte to David, it couldn't have been easy to get the reeds going after hiking in the dry and sunny High Sierras all day and up about 4000 feet of altitude.

  • hah i play the pipes too i just saw the names of them when i looked up - thanks

  • 9 and a half thousand feet I beg your pardon!! haha

  • Sorry davieboy- I mispoke. You're right the altitude is 9 and a half thousand feet. I meant to say after climbing 4000+ feet (from the valley floor, which I think was around 5000'). If you went up the Mist Trail you get double credit. Coming down that trail nearly killed me.

  • I forgive you! Yeah my brother who filmed it has done it a few times and way fitter than me so he was ahead all the way but I really struggled on way up. Coming down was nae bother!!

  • first? The Highland Wedding

  • Scotland The Brave of Course! :)

  • God bless ye laddie! Fine effort. You can play at me party an'a time! Lucky were the folks who were there ta hear it. Cheers!

  • I hiked up there and nobody played anything. Wrong day I guess. Damn.

  • Braw :0)

  • That is amazing... I'd make that hike to hear bagpipes way up there. All he needs is the kilt ;-D hehe

  • i love bag pipes. there so amazing to me. that was really awesome.

  • Wow that was cool. Live near Yosemite, Great job!!

  • Fantastic. The only man who can criticise your playing is the man who has hiked up there and done it better. We await his response.....

  • *bangs on his desk in time with the piper* Scottish all the way!

    IMH

  • Drumnadrochit All the way!

i would love to do that but:

    2. I have no idea how to play the bagpipes :"D

  • Dark, maybe after 5 hours in boots his dawgs gotta breathe! ;-)
