If you ask me, Tsunku didn't choose the girls as persons for this generation, but as "group". I don't know how to explain but each of these girls lacked something but when they were together they lacked nothing. Reina had the vocal skills, Eri had the looks and dancing skills and Sayu was a hardworking girl, who does her best in her own way possible. Reina didn't care for dance, Eri lacked confidence/rythm and Sayu singing/dancing, but together they still remain as one of the strongest gens.

yeah i agree that risa should have way more lines. She has a great voice! really! and one of the few low vocals she has a great voice and use it very well! she almost always get the lines from former members in songs, ause she can pull it off! and she's te subleader! she ahs to have more lines! Riho isn't that great, i think. she can dance very wel, but singing? i like only till generation 6 and then it stopped, now it's not the voice anymore that counts, i'm dissapointed in that
This gen is perfect all around, they got the semi experienced one (Eri), the ace (reina), and the cutie (sayumi). At the very least Sayumi's voice makes me smile b/c I know she's trying her hardest every time. And her voice is plenty better than Koharu's or Aika's or the recently added 9th gens Kanon and Erina. Riho and Mizuki are great though, I hope they don't swallow their senpai up.

@PrinciGyaru Get your ears checked. LinLin's voice was only good for ballads. Fukumura is good I admit that, and I'm waiting for her to be pushed. LinLin got to sing a nice big solo during one of their tours in the performance of Aozora ga Itsumade mo Tsuzuku You na Mirai de Are. Tsunku acknowledged her prowess for ballads but if you hear any of LinLin's mic hacks for singles her voice is always shaky. Its not simply about business otherwise they wouldn't start pushing new girls at all.

I could understand aika... after 5 years... and it is too much, but gaki... also linlin have experience before join in momusu, since 1999 linlin was in the entertaiment industry and she was underused... I don't think that the things that riho had done in the past are the reason because she's in the front, is just business...

About Only You especially he said her vocal was something else in it and that people should pay attention to her parts. Its not all about business. Aika will never get much vocal. LinLin had numerous things she had to improve on. I think if she was still in MM now that Ai is graduating Tsunku would use her.
@PrinciGyaru Japan finally got used to JunJun and LinLin and Tsunku had to let them go b/c their visas were gonna expire (at least that's how I understood it). He claims they completed their training as foreign exchange students in MM but the only reason he sent them back to China was b/c their visas expired or what not. Still wondering why they haven't done anything yet but lord knows their chances of making it big in China are limited.
@PrinciGyaru Also do you know all the stuff Riho had done before she became a member? And again compared to LinLin she doesn't have much to learn. She can already sing perfectly fine in Japanese and is a dancing machine. Also she's cute and she's young what more do you need? She is just like Reina when she started (and Reina wasn't even that good a dancer back in the day). Its not simply business. Riho is just the only one who can carry herself completely out of the 9th gen.

@Feralia1987 Tsunku looks for many different things during the audition process, not just vocal ability. You need to have many different types of girls to make an Idol group work, so he must've seen something in Sayumi that he felt MM was lacking.
@Feralia1987 Tsunku openly admitted that Sayumi doesnt really sing well, so shes gone through more vocal lessons than some of the other members, i guess it must have been bc she was so cute.

I love Eri and Reina, don't get me wrong, but Sayu's "poison-tongued" character of her's is just too dang awesome. :o) Besides, she kinda balanced everyone out. Reina had superior vocals, Eri was the best dancer, and Sayu had personality. It all worked out in the end.
i don't think Sayumi did as bad as I thought she would. She actually had the best intonation of the three even though her words were all mumbled. Good job Sayumi :)
Sayumi's singing has improved, and she plays the assumed role of narcissist as directed, and she does it well. From what I have seen of her (on television and video) she actually is a thoughtful, intelligent, and funny person. No one can deny that she is blessed with natural beauty, and time has proven that Producer chose well when he selected Sayu.
I think Reina did the best here, Eri is too fast and Sayumi is just.... out of tune ?? She's cute and I know she had improved a lot but I still don't think her singing skill is good enough for a pro singer. I mean, I know she gets most or all of her fans from her looks and voice but not her singing. It's just not good enough.

The way he described it when he announced the winners, he'd found a great singer, a great dancer, and a pure-hearted girl who simply loved MM, so he wanted to see what he could do with someone who didn't have those other qualities but did have raw determination. The four Gokkies -together- were supposed to be his perfect idol. In fact, I think it was specifically to avoid a repeat of how the Fourth Gen split into two and two.

What makes Sayu a great idol are her intelligence and her wicked sense of humor and how she's used them to develop her "narcissistic" character. She actually has a strong personality, which most other idols, artists, models do not.

I never said she was cute, I said she had an animeish kawaii style, its not the cuteness of a someone like Kago or Kame, its more like a fake cartoony kind of cuteness, which is kinda of cute in itself. She does have a strong personality, and isn't a snob. She admits her flaws and has a willing to do anything attitude, well except act yankii i guess.
I like Kame-han's voice the best....until now... ^_^ nowadays Reina is exaggerating her voice... but yeah, she IS really good at her vocals... But I still prefer my Eri's...

True. The 9th gen wasn't that bad, though. They did... okay. But what made the 9th gen really disappointing was Mogi Minami (lol, no offense). They're still new, so they can still improve :)

Awww They all looked/look so cute and their singing has greatly improved including Sayu
Also why is everybody disappointed with Sayu being added she adds an umph to the group Tsunku picked her because he saw something special in her I do to

@Feralia1987 Tsunku looks for many different things during the audition process, not just vocal ability. You need to have many different types of girls to make an Idol group work, so he must've seen something in Sayumi that he felt MM was lacking.

@Feralia1987 Tsunku openly admitted that Sayumi doesnt really sing well, so shes gone through more vocal lessons than some of the other members, i guess it must have been bc she was so cute.

@suzakulamperouge Not true. She has personality that the other two lack. I love Eri and Reina, don't get me wrong, but Sayu's "poison-tongued" character of her's is just too dang awesome. :o) Besides, she kinda balanced everyone out. Reina had superior vocals, Eri was the best dancer, and Sayu had personality. It all worked out in the end.

i don't think Sayumi did as bad as I thought she would. She actually had the best intonation of the three even though her words were all mumbled. Good job Sayumi :)

I can understand why Tsunku chose Sayumin. There's just something about her voice that you know will improve with lessons.

Sayumi's singing has improved, and she plays the assumed role of narcissist as directed, and she does it well. From what I have seen of her (on television and video) she actually is a thoughtful, intelligent, and funny person. No one can deny that she is blessed with natural beauty, and time has proven that Producer chose well when he selected Sayu.

I think Reina did the best here, Eri is too fast and Sayumi is just.... out of tune ?? She's cute and I know she had improved a lot but I still don't think her singing skill is good enough for a pro singer. I mean, I know she gets most or all of her fans from her looks and voice but not her singing. It's just not good enough.

I don't know why people are saying Sayu butchered it... it was still in key, it was the part of the song where it went up a half a key so it sounds different than the rest, lmfao

Oh dear god, Sayumi was terrible wasn't she? To tell you the truth, I used to watch videos of her singing and I was like "what do people mean she has improved? she sounds the same to me (same as she does currently)" but I guess I didn't go this much back. She has improved a lot. Good for her ^^

Konno had no talent when she started, Tsunku had struck gold with the 3rd and 4th gens and was feeling like he could do anything including making someone out of nothing

@Bloodknightv Hey now, it wasn't THAT wacky or egomaniacal. The way he described it when he announced the winners, he'd found a great singer, a great dancer, and a pure-hearted girl who simply loved MM, so he wanted to see what he could do with someone who didn't have those other qualities but did have raw determination. The four Gokkies -together- were supposed to be his perfect idol. In fact, I think it was specifically to avoid a repeat of how the Fourth Gen split into two and two.

Im not saying he was egomaniacal, but I still think he felt like he could do anything, Sayumin is different though since even though she isnt a good singer or dancer, she does have that animeish kawaii style that makes her a great idol.

@Bloodknightv Sayu is not THAT cute. Sure, she's a classical beauty by Japanese standards -- large eyes, naturally black hair, pale skin, rosebud mouth -- but so are dozens of other idols, artists, and models. In the grand scheme, she's barely above average.
What makes Sayu a great idol are her intelligence and her wicked sense of humor and how she's used them to develop her "narcissistic" character. She actually has a strong personality, which most other idols, artists, models do not.

@Celedam It isn't a character, she is really a narcissist. I never said she was cute, I said she had an animeish kawaii style, its not the cuteness of a someone like Kago or Kame, its more like a fake cartoony kind of cuteness, which is kinda of cute in itself. She does have a strong personality, and isn't a snob. She admits her flaws and has a willing to do anything attitude, well except act yankii i guess.

I like Kame-han's voice the best....until now... ^_^ nowadays Reina is exaggerating her voice... but yeah, she IS really good at her vocals... But I still prefer my Eri's...

@HanonHoshoAquaPearl I agree with you! Reina CAN sing, but it feels like she is trying to sounde"cute" on every live! That's her natural voice, she IS good! The reason I thought she couldn't sing was brcause she was so nasal, but this proves me wrong!
