@yogijimi101 The pole pieces are adjustable. The Classic player Jazzmaster is $714.99 but it doesn't come with P90's option. They make a Blacktop jaguar with P-90's $479.99. You can get these prices a nstuffmusic with coupon code: FENDER35 at check out.
@Eldererr hey man, i know troy for qotsa and perfect circle uses them, more so in QOTSA tho. its a really versatile guitar and I would highly recommend it
Does anybody know the difference between the necks of the "Classic Player" and the "Blacktop" Jazzmaster? They're supposably the same, but the CP's is a darker rosewood neck. Does that mean it's better or something like that? PLEASE ANSWER
@crybaby87Crosby The neck shapes are the same. Every piece of rosewood will look different so one being darker has no effect on the sound it's just visual. CP Jazzmaster is $714.99 and the BT Jazzmaster is $454.99 both would have free shipping if your not out of the country. use coupon code FENDER35 at check out to get these prices at nstuffmusic
@learntofly55 you can play rock and punk with any guitar.... however i have a feeling you consider "punk" to be good charlotte and Blink 182, which it is not.
@777Lateralus I don't even listen to Blink 182 and I hate Good Charlotte. And no I don't consider Blink 182 as 'punk'.I listen to the sex pistols, the early green day albums, the Clash,Nirvana;QOTSA,Foo fighters and so on.tese are punk and rock bands.I just wanted to know if the pickups would fit this kind of music. So please don't judge me only when you are based on a three months old post.
I think it's worth noting that it was the Surf community that first embraced the Jazzmaster. "What else is nice about this guitar?" The tremolo system comes with the traditional long arm, and a shorter arm that is more useable for soloing. You're also getting a guitar that is modded the way most players mod their American JMs: Tune-o-Matic/Mustang style bridge, warmer pickups (Can achieve P90 tones), etc.
Great review once again ! Those Jazzmasters are way overlooked..truth be know..what can't they play above and beyond most guitars with the exception of its kin the Telecaster.
@NstuffMusic Great review, thanks. Trying to find a guitar suitable for jazz fusion, which means I need to get one that can handle effects and has a fat warm tone with enough sustain :) Could I use a classic player jazzmaster with effects like fuzz, wah etc? Thank you for your time
@Youngtothemax The 62 is made in the USA it is made like the original Jazzmasters. The classic players are made in Mexico and do not include a hardshell case.
@BrutalEightBit NSTUFF music sells it for $714.99, and it comes with a deluxe Fender gigbag. We fully inspect and set up each guitar when it comes in through our doors and when it goes home with a customer. Our customer service is second to none!
Excellent review, thanks very much for making it. I'm undecided about buying either a Jazzmaster or a Jaguar, and this really helps illuminate the difference and similarities.
I happen to use the same amp as you, so it's pretty much spot-on for me!
so to clarify, the top switches bypass the 3-way and just allow for preset neck pickup settings? or does it actually get tonal variation that you wouldn't get just from using the neck pickup normally?
@awtsui Pickup Switching: 3-Position Toggle: Position 1. Bridge Pickup, Position 2. Bridge and Neck Pickups, Position 3. Neck Pickup Controls: "Lead" Circuit: Volume, Tone. "Rhythm" Circuit: Volume, Tone. $714.99 with gig bag at nstuffmusic.
@awtsui It will usually be a slight bit darker and warmer sounding due to the extra electronics that the signal passes through. This is also why Sonic youth bypass all electronics except the switch and master volume on their Jazzmasters, to get a little more tone and bite. But mainly it's just for the preset neck sound
@Feflori its rumored that Jimi used either a jag or a jazz on the "are you experienced" sessions. He was a big user of jazzmasters in the years when he was a backup guitar player for soul singers.
So would this guitar be good to get say a funk,Trebley sorta sound? I want one more for Indie and Grunge type stuff but its good to know if a guitar is versatile
@NstuffMusic Haha nice man I also like how you call them P90 Singlecoils i think thats the best description For a realy overwound Singlecoil Plus they look alot like the p90 pickup But with a singlecoil Twist :D
I gotta say, I love your demos. Mark, you have a great way of bringing out the subtleties of each guitar you demo. I can really hear the difference between the sound of this guitar, and say, a Strat or a Tele. Well done.
@cristianvm10 The Classic Player has a Poly finish. The American 62' is a Nitro finish. The Classic player has bigger frets and a flatter radius. They have differant pickups. They also have differant bridges. The Classic Player has a gig bag instead of a hard case.
@cristianvm10 The Classic Player pickups are hotter and brighter as were the 62 reissue would be smoother and warmer. The Classic Player would intonate better becasue it has a tuneamattic style bridge instead of the old school Jazzmaster bridge.
@NstuffMusic other than the fact that the "ajust-o-matic" it comes with is not a tune-o-matic, it is a cheesy rattly knock-off. it does intonate, but rattles and buzzes and in about a year will always become loose and rattly.
