There were just as many people lobbying for the healthcare bill as against it: unions who forced it down our throats who then immediately received wavers so the rules would not apply to them, for example. Could have been a good infomercial for people of all political stripes if it wasn't so fundamentally dishonest.
700 mill$ for anti health care lobbying? that is hard to believe. but then, they successfully prevented any mention of two simple common sense ideas: for-profit health care is immoral as the profit motive only causes prevention of care not improved care, and the entire health insurance 'industry' serves no useful; function other than to impede care and make it more expensive, they dont train doctors or conduct medical research, they just get in the way and siphon off profit
i know right they got it backward they dont usually to stop bills from passing ,they lobby to get them to pass, like this ficking SOPA and PROTECT IP ACT that is being pushed by the riaa, mpaa the chamberof comerce and many other lobbies, please help to fight this as it could come for a vote after x-mas,we must stop thin internet blacklist, censorship bill, you tube may depend on it, demandprogress . org
You know that they just cheat right? I mean the amount of information about fraudulent activities around the last few elections is staggering. When it comes to voting, the election was decided long before the people got in the booth.
@glowboy0014 There's an organization called "Watch the Vote" that is trying to organize people to stay and report their local counts so that we can catch them in the act. He talks about how he caught the Iowa GOP changing the vote in Dubuque back in the late 80's. It was the only city they monitored so it was probably statewide. They released an open letter to the GOP and the media letting them know we'll be watching. I'll be watching the count in the third bigggest city in Iowa.
you know how you can make a bigger difference, dont vote for the guys who take money from lobbyists. IMO, we dont need lobbyists. They were useful for in the past when they would compile information for politicians to seriously review, but we have the internet now and big business can have an accounting/payroll/development documenting dept with internet while the congressmen carry smartphones. We dont need these guys to bring briefcases of money to their desks.
Just did a little math, your average American (according to UC Atlas) is approximately $4,500 per person, and many others estimate higher. Now, I want all of you to multiply that 45 hundred bucks by the 312 MILLION citizens in the nation and you get 1,404,000,000,000 a year, thats if we had complete universal healthcare. Now, even if we just subsidized healthcare the costs will add up enormously. Does that sound like something this nation can afford? Even from a moral standpoint that is insanity
@davedavedaveannoy1 That's not even the half of it. Your $4,500 is assuming services will be used as much as they are now. But anytime you offer a service for free more people will use it whether they really need it or not. At that point it's not about need it's about availability. The more a service is used the more money that has to be spent to provide it OR the less that service will be available. "Sorry John, we can't set your broken leg, we already filled our max quota."
@Mectrixctic Nope, anarchy is sound in theory but it requires an extremely disciplined, intelligent, rational, and logical population bound to two ideals (that of respect for fellow individuals and their rights as well as the concept of natural rights and objective mutual gain) as the population has NONE of these traits and is unlikely to ever adopt them and abolish government anarchy like communism can function in theory only.I'm am what you could call a cross of objectivist and militarist.
Eh, I'm against objectivism. Not everything that happens to someone is their fault. Also I think welfare and UHC could fall into payback, since it'll give more hardworking citizens.
@Mectrixctic No, not everything that happens to a person is their fault. The goal of objectivism economically is to minimize entitlement and the burden on government. By doing so taxes are severely reduced on the taxpayers giving society as a collective more financial ability and thus reducing stress on them, it will also give individuals more money that they could spend on private charities. Besides, can you really put a gun to someones head and coerce them into giving and call it moral?
I don't think we can count on people to give to charity, and for the charity to give the money to the ones who need it. They need organization, and the people have to know them, so it seems like a Republic is a good form of government.
If you're using the money for a good cause, then according to utilitarianism, yes it is moral.
Taxes are used to build public areas, modes of transportation, and soon free health care, so the money could go back
@Mectrixctic You actually can, in fact, people in the United States gives more individual charity then any other nation on earth. And Utilitarianism would be enormously expensive and consume much of the government's resources. Objectivism doesn't abolish a republican form of government as it is the most stable and non-interventionist government structure in the world as well as providing ample checks and balances, it would simply objectify the laws and regulations on the government.
wait.............what is this spose to be about frekin the public washigonton goverment or something and idk wut im talking about and this is spose to be a noob comment on purpose
sadly this is actual reality. We are a piano and the gov. is playing us and we cant do anything about it because it is already too far for it to stop. If we stopped it then america would collapse just like a building demolishion.
@TheGuilliesuitSniper It's opinions like this that are causing our country (The U.S.A.) to go from being a Participant Democracy, to being a Subject Democracy. A Subject Democracy is a democratic society in which people think that there is little hope for their Democratic system of government and just go through the motions of voting, thinking that their vote will have little consequence either way and that there is little hope for change. Let me make this perfectly clear, there is always hope!
And WHY do the people allow the rich politicians and lawyers to get away with this? Because the people are more concerned with what celebrities ate for lunch.
At the end of the day, it's Human stupidity and apathy(on both sides of the fence) that are what's really making things more difficult in the long run.
@FlamingMolotov When didnt the money control anything? Its just fucking pices of paper and they are worth more than human lifes? Money was a bitch since the time of human race came.
@memen51 Currency is acctually a fairly recent invention in the grand scheme of things. At one point people would trade goods or services for other goods or services.

Yes we do need food and shelter. Yes we do have all of that, and probubly will for a LONG time. that was cute in the end, how people still think that we actually have any type of power, if its not ur current representative who isn't doing shit, it will be the other one.
@2dittoz: Yeah. As Thomas Payne once wrote--and SHR sang (Fireworks)--"If a government won't give you your basic rights, you better get another government". This is what the people should be striving for. I understand how controversies occur (ex: Congress considering a Flag Desecration Act, in attempts to protect Old Glory as a freedom symbol, yet imposing it limits freedom of expression as per the 1st Amendment), but still, equality brings us back to the idealistic beliefs that founded the US.
@Codelyokofanatic319: If it's neither party's fault, then whose is it, because whenever problems arise, we always are apt to lay blame, as opposed to trying to fix what is wrong. Politicians are the most adept at this, construing phrases to suit whatever manipulative story they wish to tell to sway the general populace to their way of thinking.
@StevenAteYourDogs you're clearly uneducated and spew that sentence out whenever someone contradicts your ideas. You probably latch onto the liberal democrat ideals of people like Bill Mahr and Jon Stewart, and so do i. The difference is that you clearly have no scope of the problems facing the USA and just take famous right wing bashing ideals and regurgitate them, whereas he, and most intelligent people make their own ideas based off of facts. As an agnostic democrat, I say you are an idiot.
why would a person in their right mind make a parody of just a bill when children could watch it?!?!?! This is too inappropriate for children!?!? It is ridiculous
@hayhay0012porsh: Inappropriate? Says whom? Children need to learn how the political system works, corrupt or not. Especially so if it is corrupt, just so they can combat it with changes in the future.
if I do recall, people did vote for the guy who promised ti fight for the people and not the lobbyists, but then his balls dropped off 5 minutes after he got into office.
@Carybm Not to worry--I teach 8th grade Civics and show this clip after the original. Lobbyists and special interest groups are in the VA program of studies.
@vivlevivle There are more than three hundred *million* people living in America and maybe twenty five thousand government employees. "The People" is the strongest social entity anywhere you look. Westerners are simply pacified with their gidgets and gizmos...and food. LOTS of food! If the people are satisfied (or distracted) enough, then they won't object to the upper echelons and their shady dealings.
But you bet your bottom dollar the people can change things in America.
@vivlevivle I was just guessing off the top of my head, and taking down the established authority (the government) is the easiest way to gain the power to dismantle the actual authority (the corporations, capitalism in general, and our own greed). However, if you want to add the entire upper echelons of power into the "us vs them" scenario thats fine. I just didn't know who to target or how many of them there are.
@vivlevivle No, not at all. I state how the corporations and capitalism are the true authorities that shackle us, which would be the most beneficial thing to rebel against (If we are on the same page when we're talking about "the people" making changes nationwide) and how I'd target them if only I knew exactly who I was targetting and how many of them there were. I target the government employees, because they're vulnerable to rebellion and because that would cripple corporate authority as well.
@LordOfNothingreally i glad where on the same ideological page, the only thing i dont get is how targeting the gov employyes would take down the business's domination
@vivlevivle All power of business and corporation is based on upholding the current laws. The government controls the elements, among many other things in society, that enforces the laws. Without the current U.S. Government, as a bureaucracy running the country, no corporation has any practical means of protecting themselves from citizens that have taken control. *Within* the capitalist system, however, the corporations are strongly protected by the law, money, and structure of the system itself
@vivlevivle There wouldn't be order, in the beginning. Citizens seizing and overthrowing the established government will always throw a nation into at least a brief spell of anarchy while those organized citizens that have taken control attempt to settle on the best new way to do things. It is during this period of re-establishing a new government, under the rebels, that corporate authority and capitalistic safeguards and guiderails can be safely removed.
@vivlevivle Ya, well, if I'm going to lay out the plan for rebellion, then have to *write the new government and subsequent documents up*...then do I get to be LEADER of this new government? LoL!
7 Deadly Fictions: 1) I have "representation" in Congress. 2) The collective use of force is made moral by the size of the collective. 3) I'm free to hire anyone I want to give me medical help. 4) Most people who seek political office aren't sociopaths 5) Sociopaths are all axe murderers or rapists, like they are depicted in hollywood 6) Juries should "enforce the law", not act as a "citizen conscience" 7) Less Government, (more anarchy), would result in increasing disorder and chaos
So... if the people who DIS-like this video believe that the lobbyists and moneyed special interests do NOT have disproportionate influence on the legislative process... you've got a lot of learning to do. All the author did was update the old song from the '70s to reflect 21st century reality. If he writes a second verse, it should be about the abuse of the filibuster.
Misleading! The special interest group in the case of the Socialist Medicine Plan formally known as "health care" was the average person in america. We don't seem to have a very strong lobby.

TherealRNO 9 months ago
@StevenAteYourDogs you're clearly uneducated and spew that sentence out whenever someone contradicts your ideas. You probably latch onto the liberal democrat ideals of people like Bill Mahr and Jon Stewart, and so do i. The difference is that you clearly have no scope of the problems facing the USA and just take famous right wing bashing ideals and regurgitate them, whereas he, and most intelligent people make their own ideas based off of facts. As an agnostic democrat, I say you are an idiot.

Bet your boots.
LordOfNothingreally 1 year ago
@LordOfNothingreally yea, exept the lobbyist will always find someway of getting their voice through, no rep is immune from lobbyists
vivlevivle 1 year ago
@LordOfNothingreally with some research i found out that there is more than 2 million gov employees, and how does gov employees have to do with this
vivlevivle 1 year ago
@vivlevivle I was just guessing off the top of my head, and taking down the established authority (the government) is the easiest way to gain the power to dismantle the actual authority (the corporations, capitalism in general, and our own greed). However, if you want to add the entire upper echelons of power into the "us vs them" scenario thats fine. I just didn't know who to target or how many of them there are.
LordOfNothingreally 1 year ago
@LordOfNothingreally so you are saying that government employees are are enemies and the coperate capitalists arent
vivlevivle 1 year ago
@vivlevivle No, not at all. I state how the corporations and capitalism are the true authorities that shackle us, which would be the most beneficial thing to rebel against (If we are on the same page when we're talking about "the people" making changes nationwide) and how I'd target them if only I knew exactly who I was targetting and how many of them there were. I target the government employees, because they're vulnerable to rebellion and because that would cripple corporate authority as well.
LordOfNothingreally 1 year ago
@LordOfNothingreally i glad where on the same ideological page, the only thing i dont get is how targeting the gov employyes would take down the business's domination
vivlevivle 1 year ago
@vivlevivle All power of business and corporation is based on upholding the current laws. The government controls the elements, among many other things in society, that enforces the laws. Without the current U.S. Government, as a bureaucracy running the country, no corporation has any practical means of protecting themselves from citizens that have taken control. *Within* the capitalist system, however, the corporations are strongly protected by the law, money, and structure of the system itself
LordOfNothingreally 1 year ago
@LordOfNothingreally so what your saying is of the people take down the government then they can take down the bisuinesses who choke this country
vivlevivle 1 year ago
@vivlevivle Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying
LordOfNothingreally 1 year ago
@LordOfNothingreally but without a government how would their be order
vivlevivle 1 year ago
@vivlevivle There wouldn't be order, in the beginning. Citizens seizing and overthrowing the established government will always throw a nation into at least a brief spell of anarchy while those organized citizens that have taken control attempt to settle on the best new way to do things. It is during this period of re-establishing a new government, under the rebels, that corporate authority and capitalistic safeguards and guiderails can be safely removed.
LordOfNothingreally 1 year ago
@LordOfNothingreally how about the rebels form a constitution before the takeover, but what will this constitution be like
vivlevivle 1 year ago
@vivlevivle Ya, well, if I'm going to lay out the plan for rebellion, then have to *write the new government and subsequent documents up*...then do I get to be LEADER of this new government? LoL!
LordOfNothingreally 1 year ago
@LordOfNothingreally hmm, okay but i get to be the speaker, anyway im interested in this plan so write it up.
