i love love love this album ??? how is she trying to be black lol her voice in my opinion dosent define her lol. do you have an accent when you sing ?? i mean really sing.. belting out lol people used to tell my sister she sounds like a "white girl " we was born and raised in virginia lol and she is far from being a white girl..
I adore this song. This song plays on repeat on my ipod. "Maybe hurt me just a little less, so I can start breathe." Powerful song man. I love this girl. Joss is whats up
I can feel the emotion coming from this song. Though I would never cross the line, I am currently in a situation where I want someone I can't have. This song would probably describe where I would end up, heartbroken. It is AMAZING! Right at 3:27....it becomes so evident that she is singing from something deeply personal. ..."we carried on makin' our mistakes, thinkin' love was free, now you've taken part of me..."
Mr Saadiq's signature is all over this song! Again girl you have been blessed with a FINE production.
You have been blessed with his presence; I love your voice, it is just mature and comforting.
I hope you keep the same production team...it works for you...He makes the emotion, your joy and pain bounce from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head and down your spine. Then bam...it (your voice) resonates through my being.
My two favorite lines in this song are, "Maybe Hurt me just a little less then I can start to breathe" & " See it can't never be" lol, I just love this song so much!
I fell in love with this song oddly enough when I heard Jennifer Hudson in the car singin it, the video is on youtube called "Jenny singing a lil Joss Stone" look it up!!!
yea i say that (heard this first on the album) and jennifer was good (joss is all always better singing this as wrote this with charlie someone(can't spell his stage/birth name) so this songs like personal to joss so she knows what she was hinking when she wrote it which makes her sing it a little bit better.
but jennifer is gr8 people are mad to think to butches songs
Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, and Norah Jones are the types of singers that we will ALWAYS remember. They pop into the music industry as legends. They have such a unique sound that they are immediately legends.
okay i put all besbo's comments as spam cause that what they are i've watch most of videos of joss on youtube and every1 i've watch has a comment buy besbo saying bad sometimes racist things and anything esle that it can thing of thats bad about joss sometimes u make out that your a fan but your not stop being sooooooo sad looking up joss video just to post bad things about her you saddo you know sh*t about soul
your right i do worship Joss because she is my favourite artist around and music is my life. I totally get that you site many other soul singers in the states to have as good if not better vocals than Joss. I just lover her voice but more than anything i love the way she sings, the tone in her voice and there's something very beautiful about her to me. and i dont mean how she looks. I am so proud to be able to say i come from the same country as her.
Like i already aknowledged there are other artists over in the states that have as goos a vocals as Joss. Its that extra something that gives her the edge. Maybe this is a poor example but look at Madonna, the woman does not by any means have a great voice yet has sold more records than Aretha.
To be honest, iv said it once and il say it again if the UK can t find it within themselves to be proud of Joss and her achievments its there loss. and i for one do not blame her one bit for wanting to move away from a country that is dis-owning her. They need to come up with a better excuse than what her accent sounds like.
Do you worship her! I mean she is talented yes but there are other singers who are just as better and equally talented than Joss Stone. You really have been missing out in the United States. There are so many soul artists in the United States who are equally material but don't get the same success as Joss.
Maybe they hate Joss because it appears she has it all, Talent, Looks, Money, Success and is a good person. maybe there jealous of what she has. And unlike other artists her life isn't all over the place, she isn't a drug addict or an alcoholic. Nor is she hanging her dirty washing in public. She has a class and elegance about her. Maybe she's to perfect!
Which if i take a step back i can to an extent understand. however what do they expect? Joss was in my opinon blessed with this voice, what she meant to sing about? Fairies and Lollipops? Maybe she hasn't lived a hard life but she is only 20 and im sure she'll go through shit in her life. And why do they have no problem with other people in a similar positon and less talent than Joss singing about these things?
And its hard to understand the british press because at the beginning of Joss career when she brought out 'The Soul Sessions' they built her up to be the next big star of soul. and a few years later when she has gained the success that they predicted she would they want to drag her down again. From what i hear the British Public don't like Joss because they can't understand how Joss can sing about all these things that she has never experienced or lived through.
Its something i can't really put my finger on, Joss is no ordinary soul singer. She has an extra edge over them. its hard to explain and i don't know if you understand what i mean but i just think Joss is special. And when i say Britain doesn't really have much of a 'soul scene' what i really mean is its not that successful over here. We have produced great soul singers like Joss, Amy Winehouse and Beverly Knight they just dont get much recognition. which is sad.
I guess what im trying to say is, all of these other soul singers over in the states are as im sure we agree super talented. Although and i dont mean this in anyway dis-respectfully but they are 10 a penny. Like every 20 years an artist such as Joss comes along who has the pipes that these girls have but also has something different. I don't mean her image which i agree has helped.
Yeah I heard of Bianca Ryan along while ago and i agree she is a big talent for the future. However the reason why i think Joss is more successful than many other 'soul singers' is her diversity. You could argue that there are a few with bigger voices than Joss. Although not many soul singers can rock it out like joss can or sing so beautifully soft like she can.
Have you heard of Bianca Ryan. Bianca Ryan was on America's Got Talent and she sang Janis Joplin and Jennifer holiday's song. People got hype like they did with Joss and said she is a little girl with a big voice but when I first heard Bianca, Joss came second in my mind.
Bianca is only thirteen years old so check her out.
In terms of of her success in the present it is true that has accomplished more than any other 20 year old has accomplished she is not the only 20 year old in the business. There are thousands of 20 year olds who want to be in Joss's shoes but they just don't get that recognition but I will keep it short Joss has more appealing factor.
When it comes to Joss's future success I can't predict because you must keep in mind that she is young and has not really grasped the rigors of the mainstream business. She is basically looking at life in a rose colored glass and has been not through any type of drama in her life. Joss is really going through the industry in a silver platter.
Although you have to understand people from the UK would tell you Robbie Williams is one of the greatest artists to ever live. which is clearly isn't the case. And at the other end of the scale Beverly Knight has never even won a BRIT award when she is one of the finest artists they've produced over the last 20 years. Im proud to be british but struggle to understand the logic sometimes.
I understand what you are saying. Joss Stone is better than most 20 years old in terms of musical ability and determination. I was listening to her on the Chris Moyles show after the Brits and from what I gathered and heard the British people don't like her because they feel she has disowned them and their culture.
Chris Moyles called her a insecure girl and he also said that she wants to be black. This is not from me this is from Chris Moyles. There were a couple of Brits who think she has changed because she wants to be an American. Another that Chris Moyles said is that she has disrespected the British culture by talking about her success and headlines said she rejected her fans and said that celebrities are more hardworking than normal people.
From what I have been hearing people in the UK have stopped paying attention to Joss and exiled her from the press. They also criticzed her accent which I believe is to petty and immature.
I will defend her when it comes down to the accent I mean she's been living America. That is probably the reason why she does not like to live in the UK anymore.
You are from the UK and you say that there is no much of a soul scene. That probably explains the reason why you like Joss so much . In the USA there are so many soul musicians who are talented. Since soul music started in the USA you get the full package in America. L
USA has a population over 200 million people (dont quote me on that) and the UK 60 million. so she is a appealing to a much wider audience and inturn her music is reaching alot more people. The average brit's opinon of her from what i gather is she tries to be American therefore they don't like her. However Amy Winehouse on the other hand is as english as fish 'n' chips and acts like trailor trash yet has the full support of the british public.
You are from the UK and you say that they don't have much of a soul scene. That probably explains the reason why you like Joss so much. In the USA there are soul music scenes everywhere because soul music started in America. There are so many soul singers out there today who have so much talent.
I dont think there's many 20 year old girls out there, that could write music to this level. there cant be very many albums that have gone 'Gold' that were written by people of that age. I genuinly believe she has an un-deniable talent and if the UK are to ignorent to recognise her then its there loss.
I think if you listen to each of Joss's albums in order, you will see the progression and that she is still improving. I believe she will be in the industry for years to come and is no where near her peak right now. Her song writing ability to me has great potential and she will loosen and become less generic with each album.
and i agree that Joss's success will continue to be pro-dominantly in the states because the UK music seen is being dominated by bands that all sounding exactly the same. There isn't much of a 'Soul' scene. although they have produced two of the best of our time (in my opinion)
besbo i kinda agree with you here, especially with the lyric you quoted. i never did get why the Uk dis-owned her but it kinda adds up. although i dis-agree that Joss is at all diva-ish or tries to act black (if thats even possible). I like her new direction alot.
If you guys listen closely you will see that she sampled Mary J Blige's song "I Found My Everything" she did a good job on the song and I believe it was one the best songs on the album besides Girl They Won't Believe It.
Great Catch...I loooove Mary J's IFME, Raphaael produced that too. Though I think Girl..., Bad Habit, Arms of My Baby, Put Your Hands On Me, and this cut are all good. Though I am a little dissapointed in the album as a whole, I thought it would be more like the stuff he did with Lucy Pearl or something..lol!
The lyrics weren't really that great. Her lyrical material on her latest album seems like the stuff Fergie, Nelly Furtado and Rihanna would sing too. I believe Girl They Won't Believe It, Music and What Were We Thinking were the best lyrical songs on the album.
Her Mind, Body, and Soul album the lyrics were better and easier for people to relate too. I believe she had more people behind her on the production of her second album. She had real soul vets like Betty Wright, Lamont Dozier who wrote most of the lyrics on the album and arranged the vocals.
Do you really think so? Personally, I feel that Introducing Joss Stone is the most relateable and real album she has ever made. And I think the reason for that is because she wrote almost every song on this amazing album... Anyway, I love Joss, and I love this song. I love all of Introducing but right now this is my favorite song. I can completely relate to it :)
Her new sound was better than her lyrics. Her lyrics to me are to cliche. I believe her lyrics did not gel with the music. The one song I did not like was Put Your Hands On Me. The lyrics were predictable and the type of material only Rihanna, Beyonce etc would sing.
It may have had better lyrics, but blah I thought is was boring. Here musically she is better with this reccrd. But I'll tell ya, I don't look for indepth lyrics from Joss cause the girl is 19.lol! I listen to the way she delevers the music itself, but I have bever like all of a whole album of hers. This one is stronger musically, no doubt.
I believe the only difference between Introducing Joss Stone and her second album was the music. Raphel Sadiqq put more of a funkiness and hip hop on her latest album wheras on her second album it was more polished. But really she does have that Lucy Pearl sound only difference was that her lyrics are not the real smooth R&B type.
Joss is sangin' on this song, I like this up there with "spoiled", But she has a limited range where JHud has power in all levels of her range and also has better vocal riffs and runs. It's not to say that joss can't develop, but she is not in JHud league yet...
yea i love j.hud both are gr8 singers but it's about quaitly not quanity better to have gr8 voice and small range unlike mariah away from the high notes she not that good of a singer
Mariah, not a good singer??? Maybe not now, however in the 90's she was a vocal beast. Her voice was amazing then! I like range, if your going to be called the next "Aretha" then it would be nice to develop some other vocal ability instead of singing strongly in one range IMO
no one has ever said joss is the next artha, and mariah uses her high notes when ever theirs a space to show off and it get boarding jhud can blet out a song well but so can joss i don't think jhud is like 100 times better live, shes better than beyonce and lots of other singers but not the bestest gr8est singer
I agree with your comment Joss does not have the vocal power and range like Jennifer Hudson. If Jennifer Hudson sang that song she would of really ripped into that song( I mean in a good way). Joss has the husky tone which really puts the power on her voice her voice is no doubt excellent when she did the song plus she the emotions into it instead of just singing it just to sing.
Your right, Besbo clearly you have an ear for music outside of just a fan and speaking out your ass :)! I like Joss, but I agree Hudson would have eaten this song for breakfast luch and dinner. I'm still trying to understand why she only sold 70,ooo units in the UK? How the hell do you go from 3xplatinum to 70,000 copies.
Thank You so much for your comment! The reason why her album floped in the UK is due to the fact that her reputation and attitude got the best of her. Her UK fans believed she sold them out by performing more in the United States and plus they believe she acts more like an American diva than a British diva.
They also believe she is a phony and a fake. British music producer last name Rhonson said that that he believes Joss Stone's attitude and vanity annoys him and the British fans. He believes she tries to act a black soul diva like Whitney Houston .
Right. There might be some racial stuff there (with her and the American brothas lol!). It's interesting you mention Mark Ronson he and Salaam Remi did a good Job with Amy's Back to Black album. The truth they just REALLY LOVE Amy. They complain about Joss, yet Amy has cancelled shows, admits to herion and alcohol abuse and she is a GOD to them. Go figure! SHe (Joss)did well here with no real charted hit to go gold is very good! I prefer this album musically to Mind Body and Soul.
If Joss releases a new album I don't know if the UK fans are going to pay attention to it but clearly in the present they have exiled her and called her a sell out. She is doing well in the United States and I believe that where she is going to focus most of her attention on.
OMG....this is my favorite song on the album...n before I bought it, Id heard this song and honestly thought it was Jennifer Hudson on most of the songs. It took me til the end of the album to notice that it was Joss....
Don't like this album, but I totally love Joss. She has the most addictive voice I have ever heard.

You have been blessed with his presence; I love your voice, it is just mature and comforting.

"Girl They Won't Believe it" is my FAVORITE song! This is a good second.

Baby I'm hungry
I want and I need
Bring me your sugar
And pour it all over me baby

It's not to say that joss can't develop, but she is not in JHud league yet...
realutopia2007 4 years ago
yea i love j.hud both are gr8 singers but it's about quaitly not quanity better to have gr8 voice and small range unlike mariah away from the high notes she not that good of a singer
vegrox 4 years ago
Mariah, not a good singer??? Maybe not now, however in the 90's she was a vocal beast. Her voice was amazing then! I like range, if your going to be called the next "Aretha" then it would be nice to develop some other vocal ability instead of singing strongly in one range IMO
realutopia2007 4 years ago
no one has ever said joss is the next artha, and mariah uses her high notes when ever theirs a space to show off and it get boarding jhud can blet out a song well but so can joss i don't think jhud is like 100 times better live, shes better than beyonce and lots of other singers but not the bestest gr8est singer

How the hell do you go from 3xplatinum to 70,000 copies.
realutopia2007 4 years ago
Thank You so much for your comment! The reason why her album floped in the UK is due to the fact that her reputation and attitude got the best of her. Her UK fans believed she sold them out by performing more in the United States and plus they believe she acts more like an American diva than a British diva.
besbo 4 years ago
They also believe she is a phony and a fake. British music producer last name Rhonson said that that he believes Joss Stone's attitude and vanity annoys him and the British fans. He believes she tries to act a black soul diva like Whitney Houston .
besbo 4 years ago
