  • HI Laura, this is Denise, Mrsblackcoffee again! OK, I made a buttercream topsy turvey cake today out of buttercream with fondant decorations. I made lollipops, a binky, (thanks Mayen) and a teddy bear out of fondant, but the top tier crashed. Im in TX and you already know that its hot here, but can you tell me why it possibly crasehd??? I doweled the cake and everything, all I can think of is the figures were to heavy, please share your thougths. by the way the top tier was chocolate.

  • Hi! Sorry to hear about your mishap. I'd really have to see the cake and see how many and how big the decorations were on top. That sounds like it could be it....? :)

  • thanks for sharing Laura!!! you already, give us LOTS of info and tutorials!! LOVe your work!!!God bless!!!

  • You are so very welcome! It's beautiful comments like yours that keeps me going! Thank you! :0)

  • Hi Laura, once again you nailed it! This cake is absolutely gorgeous...one question, if you don't mind, how do you make the safety pins???? Also, please message about pricing, I too, have been told that I am pricing my cakes too low. Thanks Laura

  • Thank you! The safety pins were ovals cut very thin and then a little circle glued on the bottom. Once dry then they were luster dusted with silver highlighter dust. I charged $8.50 per slice for this cake. :0)

  • What is the brightest you use

  • Thank you! I used a pearl sheen airbush color over the blue. I hope this is what you were asking about? :)

  • Absolutely STUNNING!

  • Thank you! :0)

  • Hi Laura, how do you make buttons in gumpaste, im planning to make a baby shower cake for my friend, please can you give some tips :)

thank you for your help and tips :)

  • Hi, it's one of the simplest things to do really... You just get two different sized circle cutters. You cut out gumpaste with the larger one and then with the smaller one you just press down hard enough to make a smaller circle on the inside. Take a tiny icing tip with a little circle and cut out two holes in the middle. :)

  • Wow ...Thank you so much for the tip :)

  • pls dont mind, one more question how do you cut out the letters small and big.. thank you so much for replying, I appreciate it :) I am new to this cake world , and you make it so easy to understand thank you for being so sweet :) and friendly..

  • Hi there! You can purchase all kinds of different size cutters. You'll find the huge ones at Hobby Lobby or Michael's as well as the small ones. :0)

  • is gumpaste edible lol sorry im new to this

  • That's ok! :) Yes it is edible. :0)

  • btw what is the different between satin ice fondant and regular fondant? thanks :)

  • Satin Ice IS regular fondant, it's just DELICIOUS! Most other fondants I"ve tried taste horrible.... :)

  • another great work, Laura! very cute! :)

  • Thank you sweetheart! Glad you liked it! :0)

  • Thank you sweetheart! Glad you liked it! :0)

  • This is a BEAUTIFUL CAKE!! Since you say we can ask you anything. Personal message me (IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LEAVE IT IN A COMMENT) as to how much you charge for something like this because I believe my prices are tooo low. I would charge $70 for this.....Is that to low?

  • Thank you sweetheart! :0) Hell to the yeah honey! That is way too low! $70 wouldn't even cover the cost to brainstorm for this cake! LOL! But seriously, for this cake and for this type of decoration, my clients are easily looking at $8 - $9 per slice. If you believe your prices are too low, then it's time to hike them up honey!

  • what is gum paste?

  • Gumpaste is basically fondant that has been mixed with a powder called tylose powder that makes it very hard. It can make your figures last FOREVER! :0)

  • a word of warning. The week the before my birthday I'm going to capture you and lock you in my kitchen and force you to make me a cake. You will be realiesed once the cake is finished. Resistance is futile! THANK YOU HAVE A NICE DAY :)

Question- I know you use an airbrush - mine sounds like it's working but the color doesn't come out. Do you know what would casue this? Is it clogged? If so, how do I clean it???? Thanks! Well done!!!
