Nice chops...reminds me of when I was younger playing vai and satch tracks through an alesis quadraverb and a peavy bandit 112 (feckin loud for a small box). I bought an ibanez rg 540 sabre in '89 thats what sach played back then...stil plays good but I'm limited to amplitube and revalver due to kids. Hey even remember my first 4 track which I still got and records on cassette tapes!!! Whats ur guitar setup i.e. action pickups etc
thats cool, what colour is your rg series? i had a black s470 before i got my 98' js1000, just finished the guitar with a dimarzio pickup switch, full upgraded ibanez parts to chrome, cost me like £500 to do but its an amazing instrument. it still has the original p'ups in there. my current setup is more humble, marshall jvm mxr wylde overdrive and boss dd-20 for delay, also use a boss ge-7 to scoop mids for a more metal tone, check out my newest recordings through a sm-57 and desk etc, thanks
@uomoscozzese oh so you always use the amp in clean , can i like use a foot switch to use my amp distortion , i have a valvetronix , i like it's od sound , if yes how do i connect ?
@ricoismybitch Yes if you have a valvetronix you can make another channel with an effect and with the footswitch you can switch between for example a clean channel and a distorted channel
Thanks for the info! I should've mentioned...I'm running the gt 6 through the effects loop on the 5150, with an external eq as well. So when I have a clean patch enabled on the gt 6, all it does is add to the main sound of the 5150. I'm not sure how to bypass the amps signal with a clean patch as you mentioned? Maybe if I try running my guitar through the gt 6 then into the head?
nice video!! Do you know of a way to switch channels on a 5150 or any head for that matter, using the GT 6? So one could switch between the clean and gain from the head without an extra foot switch.
yeah what you do is make a clean patch on the gt-6 with an amp simulator enabled and the 5150 set to gain channel all the time but gt-6 set to bypass the amps signal
I thought this was going to be another video of someone with too many pedals with a million horrible sounds. This was a great video and every sound you have on his was kick ass! Good job!
the difference between analog and digital dist. sounds is irrelevant live and recording. The Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth uses GT-10, atleast he did at The Roundhouse Tapes. Which means it sounds fucking great.
try using stomp boxes for distortion instead of the digital simulations on the gt-10, i'd use the gt-10 for the modulations, delay, flanger phaser etc although you cant really beat a good amps distortion from tubes
i dont own the valveking anymore but i can assure you that for the money the valveking does metal better than any other amp on the market, its a valve beast
i dont use the gt-6 anymore i use a gt-10 and i only use the digital effects like delay, chorus, reverb etc that are meant to be digital so the digital sound isnt a problem
i got my js1000 in italy 3 years ago in a shop in italy for around $600 and it was all beat up, ive just finished replacing all the metal hardware with original prestige ibanez parts and they cost me around $500. ill be posting a video soon showing the difference and the work ive donbe thanks
I like my GT6 along with a Tech 21 tri-ac. It seems to work well together. Still use a boss cs-3 compressor and a real tube overdrive with a 12u7 in it. At any rate, your an awesome player and great tones your getting. Thanks for the video :)
that was my old setup, where i used a gt-6 preamp and then put ds-1 and sd-1 through it and it was a litle complicated. now i use a gt-10 and the ultra channel from the jsx amp for heavy stuff
I have a fender amp and a ds1, it sounds great if you turn down the tone knob at 2 or 3 in the eq i use bass up at 8 and treble 4 the map has no middles so it`s great for clean tones.I also use boss dd3 a boss ch1 a digitech overdrive and a Cry baby. What do you think about my set up? Mi guitar is an Ibanez gsa 60 (hss). Thanks from argentina
YOUR COMPLETELY CORRECT, I did probably set the bbass a little too high because of the distortion being a bit thin. I use a peavey jsx amp for distortion now so the clean can work indepedently and the amps channels are very sweet and responsive, i have posted a video of it check it out

im going to get a gt10 soon. Do u think that it will be better to add a ds1 to it, just like u? (i know u have gt6 but i dont think theres much difference in distortion between gt6 and gt10)
from what iv'e heard from the gt-10 the distortions are similar to gt-6 because of them being simulated digital dounds, i would always recommend a distortion stomp box over multi effects and over stomp boxes valve amp distortion. try putting a ds-1 through the gt-6 external effects loop that way you can control it via the gt-6 pedals and put it in various orders in your chain of effects on the gt-6
thats not a crappy setup...its an awesome one. let me guess...you play a squier and the only song you can play is smells like teen spirit. NARLY! not!
i copy your setup exactly , except instead of boss GT6 I tried Rocktron Prophesy II , instead of your amp I have JSX head, and Ibanez js1200...yet yours sounds good and mine like thin shite.
i have a new simpler setup now with my jsx head that doesnt require stomp pedals just ampS DISTORTION and gt6. Ill put a video explaining how soon ( youll see how buying the amp was worth it with a few teaks here and there) the key is in the eq settings
thats a sweet sound , so you simply connect your boss GT thing to the JSX and attach pedals for extra effects? I'm really keen to know since i have a jsx head but sounds nothing like that when I plug n play...which annoys me after paying out for it!
i have a new simpler setup now with my jsx head that doesnt require stomp pedals just ampS DISTORTION and gt6. Ill put a video explaining how soon ( youll see how buying the amp was worth it with a few teaks here and there)
I might have to buy a GT6 (or GT8 now) so I can try your setup and cross fingers..the pod x3 bean and rocktron prophesy II I have make horrible sounds.
the problem with the pod x3 is that it is an amp modeller with effects, the gt-6 is more of a multi-effects pedal more suited to using with an amps distortion and channels etc. plus the peavey jsx has a line out so you can plug it into a hi-fi to play without a cabinet unlike many valve amps, which is good for home practice. :)
yup i currently have my js1200 through the POD X3 (comfortably numb setting with some delay and lots of gain) into the jsx head clean channel bass/mid/treble all set half way. Seems to sound ok but this fellas tone sounds better , the POD X3 doesn't have send in/outs BUT effects could be in the JSX's send in/out .. I want to add my Keeley Boss DS-1 to the mix but wouldn't know how with my current setup to sound good..if you could post a video that possibly includes POD X3 too that'd be so cool.
what model crybaby do you have? is it the orignal, the classic, or the 535q? I'm using the wylde wah, but it's a little extreme. your wah sounds amazing.
i don't just use delay and eq, my setup is so that i can go from 4 effects to 1 by pushing one pedal on the gt-6, so multiple pedals are no good for as i am also the singer and dont have time while performing to push 4 pedals from verse to chorus. i will be doing a new video explaining how i connect my equipment soon,
dude why use the gt-6 for delay and eq only? why dun just get the boss dd-20 man. you're like underutilizing the gt-6. gt-6 distortions are good too man. you're like kinda wasting space on ur pedal board haha.
I play in a alternative rock band and need lots of different saved patches and banks. with different combinations of delay,eq,tremolo, phaser, flanger, reverb, whammy pedal etc(the only gt-6 effect i dont touch are the distortions cos digital distortion has no presence and sounds awful)
wish i had the money as soon as u get the pedals u get the sound , and ppl say its in the fingers i dnt see ow if ur playin it on a shitty litle marshall pocket amp:P
if you give an awesome guitarist shitty gear its gonna sound pretty good because pedals and amps modify the tone but the true tone of a guitarist comes from the hands and the soul
no but why do all the pros use tubs amps? think about it? You don't see Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Guthrie Govan, Brett Garsed, Neil Zaza, etc. using solid state amps.
if your like me,crap at floor multi affects units.try a line6 flextone111 amp,i have one there great and easy to use all the affects on it are mint and easy to use.the reverb is totaly unreal
see the problem with using external distortion pedals is when you use 2 @ the same time (1 for rythm and add 1 for lead) you get low frequency noises which are really noticable on single coil pickups. i put the external pedals through the NS LOOP then the NS output into the gt-6 input, that signal then goes into the gt-6 eq then subsequent effects in the desired order, digital distortion is terrible although the other effects are great on the gt-6, enjoy!!!
i am using, boss ds-1, boss, sd-1, delay 300-400ms and the boss ns as 2 stomp boxes running at the same time can be noisy. the gt-6 is only used for eq and delay. thanks
extremely muddy IMHO

ImThEkOoLeStYeA 3 years ago
no but why do all the pros use tubs amps? think about it? You don't see Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Guthrie Govan, Brett Garsed, Neil Zaza, etc. using solid state amps.

duh cuz they are better i use one too
but their tone isnt from their amps as much as its from their fingers

see the problem with using external distortion pedals is when you use 2 @ the same time (1 for rythm and add 1 for lead) you get low frequency noises which are really noticable on single coil pickups. i put the external pedals through the NS LOOP then the NS output into the gt-6 input, that signal then goes into the gt-6 eq then subsequent effects in the desired order, digital distortion is terrible although the other effects are great on the gt-6, enjoy!!!

when ur doin satch tone arounrd 2:30, it is chourus, delay and distortion or what?
bucknasty1148 4 years ago
i am using, boss ds-1, boss, sd-1, delay 300-400ms and the boss ns as 2 stomp boxes running at the same time can be noisy. the gt-6 is only used for eq and delay. thanks
