I think this has a beautiful relationship between the performer and the cyr wheel and you can see how he really explores the object and creates a narrative in some ways and i actually prefer this as a whole routine more than the cirque du soleil one! great work!
What is the hoop made of? which is its size? I've been practicing but with the little sized one, i want to try and practice with that one, its just... beautiful.
@32499m Never said there was anything wrong with being in a circ or working on the side of the road, I said it was sad. Art simply isn't as beloved as it use to be.
That was really beautiful, I feel like the visual asthetics of Ethan's performance were really complimented with the music.
As for the clapping and cheering, I think it would've encouraged the artist, we're only irritated because we are watching by ourselves. It's interesting that If there were an upbeat track playing with the piece I don't think we would've minded so much.
But, that completely defeats his creative intention.
While applause can be annoying sometimes its definitely a good thing. I don't know how many people have ever watched the activity of winter guard but when the group does something impressive there is cheering, this is true even in Jazz music for soloists. Personally as a performer I feed off the crowds energy, I don't rely on it but its a good thing to have.
I'm in winterguard and I know what you mean! It's great to get applause, you need the feedback from the audience to get you pumped. I remember at a show a few weeks ago the crowd would not stop cheering so loudly after we caught out rifle five, and we couldn't hear the music to go on and it happened again during the ballad. Pro; let's you know the show is good and the audience loves what you're doing. Con; harder to concentrate and hard to hear music.
@dancerlove941 I am also in winter guard. Our team craves applause. My coach always says we should know the timing well enough to know where the song is, even if we can not hear it.
The Physical strength, stamina and control he has to do that.....astounding...You have to have complete control of that ring the entire time, otherwise you fall flat on your face.
So beautiful ... So fluid! What a talented man. I just wish the crowd didn't go "Whoo!", "Wuh" or make other annoying noises and just appreciated this gentle art in the silence of their own minds.
What's strange is that I just got home from seeing Cirque le Masque where I saw a man do an act like this. I explore with Stumbleupon, and it brings me here. :] Incredible.
how did you become to be able to do this, did you try it once, or were you really just so bored you though it was fun and now have a made a rt form and a contemporary dance. it is amazing the music is just Perfect. and how there is no other sound coming from you or the large metal ring. i was also wondering what was the metal ring made out of? and did you make it.
I really feel like telling those people to shut up while he's performing. First off, he needs to concentrate. Second, he's playing music for a reason; no only so you can hear it, but he needs to be able to hear it as well. And lastly, It's just proper etiquette. You don't see people clapping in the middle of a damn symphony.
@Wiisal It is however proper etiquette to give applause after a solo in a jazz piece. Given this is neither a symphony or a jazz piece I don't think it matters.
I agree, it is extremely annoying and rude. The crowd must have thought of him as a circus clown, and not an artist, but that says nothing about his artistic value, it's only an indicator of the audience's culture. Sadly, a great performance has been ruined by morons screaming "Yeah!!" and alikes.
@persa1709 This video was taken at the Ecole Nationale du Cirque, one of the most prestigeous circus arts schools in the world. That audiance was full of students of equal caliber, if anyone knows what they were watching or what the appropriate response was, it's the group in that video.
@persa1709 This video was taken at the Ecole Nationale du Cirque, one of the most prestigeous circus arts schools in the world. That audiance was full of students of equal caliber, if anyone knows what they were watching or what the appropriate response was, it's the group in that video.
@persa1709 ...and others. This was a performance at the Circus School in Montreal and the audience are his fellow students. Their applause is certainly not disrespectful - they are simply showing support and enthusiasm for his act.
@Wiisal Absolutely he deserves the space to concentrate but how many people are raised in the presence of a man inside a ring. Moreso... how many shows are there in popular media that don't encourage moronic clapping about the simplest and most difficult tasks. It seems difficult to appreciate anything without reminding the world that we are there along for the ride....
@Wiisal in these kinds of performances, it's not necessarily inappropriate to applaud/clap after a high-level technique is shown. this is completely different than listening to a symphony performance. take for example, figure skating. people roar after quadruples or triple axel, triple toe loops combinations... there are so many other types of performances like these.
besides, it's not like they're clapping loudly and constantly. and i'm sure he can count the tempo in his own head.
@Wiisal except sometimes it is appropriate like in a ballet when there is a very impressive lift or the dancer does a crazy amount of pirouettes or something, the audience often claps at that point to show their appreciation for that move and not just the performance as a whole
There's no such thing as audience etiquette anymore. People don't appreciate live events as much anymore and they don't give a damn about anyone but themselves.
I would have broken all of my fingers and toes by now.
