@Highvoltageism - Yes, not once have I ever had a problem with anything H&K that I own. I've played through a VM. You'll find the tone way more honest in the H&Ks. Hope this helps.
I don´t understand why some amps are insane expensive like this one for example, why should anyone pay more than 2000 bucks for a head, I mean, I know those are high quality amps but come on, cost are almost the same for any brand, so, why ENGL, H and Kettner, Diezel, Badcat, etc overprice their amps?
Loved La Villa!! I have a question, and it's going to sound really stupid, but do you have to have a cabinet to use the amp head? or can you play with just an amp or even just the amp head? Like I said, sorry for the stupid question, just an amp newbie.
@vnslykrx NO dude, don't ever even turn on a tube head unless it's plugged into a speaker load. lol The current has no where to go and it will screw the transformers up like you won't believe. And no, don't worry about the question. It wasn't stupid @ all. If I use any head without a speaker connected, it's because it's running through my Palmer PDI-03. It's a dummy load that acts as a speaker load.
@mmagoon67 Thanks man! I've been looking to get this head and getting a H&K 4X12 cabinet for it. I just wanted to make sure I knew what to get haha. Thanks again!!
If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.
PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.
I have a Triamp MKII (same as this but with blue lighting) and it sounds nothing like this?? Your tone sounds completly dead to me... like very old strings or a miserable cab.. very strange.
As much as I hate to admit it, I agree with you. BUT! I don't know how many times I have to tell everyone this. I went direct, and it was monitored through laptop speakers! It sounds dead because it wasn't done right. I'm going to delete this video soon and do it again. When I do I promise it will be better.
Hi, Your demo and playing are great but I would NEVER spend 3500$ for "only" these tones. Especially the clea one sounds a bit cheappy. Amazing HnK !! Way too expensive.
The head was $3500 Brand new. I've said this before but, This vid does not do this amp justice. I want to do it again and really capture the true tone and feel of the amp. BTW, If you can get one, I strongly recommend it to you.
Could anyone help me out on what the best amp for heavy rock would be? Like, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Chevelle. Bands like that, I'd prefer it to be tube, and I dont care how much money it is. I like allooottt of gain and a really heavy, meaty sound to it
You mentioned earlier that the 490 T was the best for Rush. And that sounds pretty good, but what about the '57 Classics? That's what the AL ES-355 has in it. Also, I saw that the 490 T was very similar to the '57s. So what do you know about them?
Not, much. I just know that they sound nice and thick. Just the way I like it. Not only is it good for rush covers but it is great for Nickelback I'm finding out. I hear many similarities between H&K and Mesa. I would guess that the 490 T has a slightly higher output that the 57' Classics. But I'm not sure.
No, I didn't get anything but an amp guard (cover.) Also, This video does not show the amp for what it truly is. It's not gonna sound "awesome." Plus I didn't know what I what I was doing either. I want to do it again to make it sound awsome.
I'm sure it's a great amp - it's supposed to sound tube-y. Lerxst has used a billion different ones, and if he likes that one, it's gotta rock.
For the best sounding app I've ever heard on YouTube, search "Les Paul & Trainwreck" - mmmmm crunchy broccoli
( he's in a small muffled room and cranked, which works well for what he's doing - you've got a nice comb filter-y wall behind yours, which is probably smudging your transients for distant mic'ing a bit )
actually, I decided to go direct. The only thing is I didn't have the proper monitors. I monitored back with the speaker in my friend's Macbook. Bad idea! Now, I've got a whole recording setup and program so I can do it right. Also, I wouldn't label this amp so much as tube-y. If you search Snakes and Arrows live and listen to the guitar, that is actually what it sounds like in person and I was trying to capture that sound. That amp sounded cool too, in that vid.
Yup. The black Les Paul has a set of "Gibson's" (lol) Burstbucker Pros and the yellow Les Paul Elitist, has "Gibson's" 490T in the bridge position. The guitars may not say Gibson on them, actually the black on does, but they're pretty much Gibsons.
Definitely the 490T. I play to S&A Live and it fits very nicely. Plenty of bottom end with a nice midrange. Very thick but clear sounding. I'm steering away from the Burstbuckers cause they have too much upper mid and high end byte. I almost have to go over and EQ the amp again to make it fit. But they sound awesome with the clean channel.
Finally, I've been waiting forever for someone to demo this amp. That thing's awesome. I have the Switchblade head and a Mesa cab with the same speakers, and I was just blown away by that Switchblade. I plan on getting one of these amps as well, but I don't have $3,500 laying around. And good work on the demo songs. I also play most of those. (I have a video of The Main Monkey Business)
Not exactly sure. Wish I knew. I get asked that a lot. I know that the tubes are just slightly different. Better, I've read in other's reviews. I think it has a little bit different midrange frequency range.
Excellent demo! Love the Rush licks! Just wanted to thank you for posting this. You helped me decide to buy a Triamp MKII (not the AL, but the same except for the 'gator Tolex and purple LEDs).
Your amp does sound killer. I just got my first tube amp, a B-52 AT 212. I was very suprised at how good it sounded. I got a really good deal on it, I've heard a few bad reviews on it. The cabinet sux but the amp is nice. I would love to be able to afford a hughes but not right now. Nice review, and glad we had a good laugh too. What kinda pups you using ?
I haven't. I think the regular Triamps have almost a different midrange then the Alex Lifeson head. Listen to Snakes & Arrows live and then R30 from Rush and you'll see what I mean.
I understand completely. I've learned so much about recording and have a lot more equipment for recording, so I'm hoping to do this again a lot differently.
$3500 is pretty damn close to it. I might post a demo of my Triamp soon, but it's nothing different from this video. It definitely beats a 6505 or 5150.
Which Triamp do you have? I am maybe trading for an MK1 and am curious to know if that amp has the same sound as this one. I've heard the MK1 and MK2 are virtually the same and that the same is said for the MK2 and the Lifeson. I dream to get his amp. Not being 16 yet, I can't get a jopb. It'd take a while anyway because I think his head is 3.5 grand. Then the cab is from 1 to 2 grand. So expensive, but SO worth it.
Ha, I agree with you man, Rush is the best! But so underrated... It pisses me off sometimes that such an awesome band isn't considered awesome by that much people...
Love watchin a 4 grand amp on a Chinese guitar! keep it up

Sounds really tube-y on the distortion channel, which - I suppose - is the point, the old battered 'n deep fried sole sound.
