  • Love watchin a 4 grand amp on a Chinese guitar! keep it up

  • @Highvoltageism - lol actually it's Korean I think. Had all the hardware replaced with Gibson. It's an improvement.

  • @mmagoon67 Well I'm looking to replace my Vintage Modern and I keep coming to the HK. Are these solid built amps? I know the tone is amazing

  • @Highvoltageism - Yes, not once have I ever had a problem with anything H&K that I own. I've played through a VM. You'll find the tone way more honest in the H&Ks. Hope this helps.

  • ew where do you leave

  • I still drop my jaw when I read 9 AX7's, this thing is a beauty.

  • Sounds very good for not being mic-ed up. SWEET!

  • the money they make with this amp goes to unicef but just if you buy the signature version i think thats such a good thing

  • I was about to say, why the epiphone? Why not a Gibby? Then I remebered that this amp caught our economy with its pants down.

  • 2:36 tht is a sexy les paul

  • Limelight !!!! Sounds Great!!!

  • how much is this amp

  • these amps are the sex,, cant stand les pauls,,, they drive me nuts lol

    other than that, brilliant video!

  • (12-12-2010) I've searched the Web. don't see his signature model for sale any where.... Ohhhh, (6:20), Witch Hunt ! I love that song.

  • I don´t understand why some amps are insane expensive like this one for example, why should anyone pay more than 2000 bucks for a head, I mean, I know those are high quality amps but come on, cost are almost the same for any brand, so, why ENGL, H and Kettner, Diezel, Badcat, etc overprice their amps?

  • Nice playing and very clear sound. Nice amp, it goes from super clean to super crunch!! I want it so badly, but the price is a little too high!!! ; (

  • Epiphone Les Paul elitist?? The other guitarist in my band has one.

  • Loved La Villa!! I have a question, and it's going to sound really stupid, but do you have to have a cabinet to use the amp head? or can you play with just an amp or even just the amp head? Like I said, sorry for the stupid question, just an amp newbie.

  • @vnslykrx NO dude, don't ever even turn on a tube head unless it's plugged into a speaker load. lol The current has no where to go and it will screw the transformers up like you won't believe. And no, don't worry about the question. It wasn't stupid @ all. If I use any head without a speaker connected, it's because it's running through my Palmer PDI-03. It's a dummy load that acts as a speaker load.

  • @mmagoon67 Thanks man! I've been looking to get this head and getting a H&K 4X12 cabinet for it. I just wanted to make sure I knew what to get haha. Thanks again!!

  • @mmagoon67 It's fine to turn on a tube amp without a speaker load connected as long as you don't take it out of standby-mode.

  • Same here I woul love to have that amp! Alex Lifeson is no doubt the most creative guitar player out there

  • Wow dude I would do ANYTHING for that amp I wish I could afford it SO bad

  • Whats the difference between this and the regular triamp

  • My hughes and kettner trilogy amps sounds better. And it's about 2000€ cheaper.

  • Even though they aren't made anymore, I can still get one; just don't have the major fundidge required to purchase it. Great vid! :)

  • That amp sounds amazing..

  • You played Passage To Bangkok right after you had played The Main Monkey Business. You played the two pretty good (especially in Limelight)

  • great demo

  • you played skillet at the end!! your awesome.

  • Nice dude! I'm glad someone caught that :)

  • @mmagoon67 yea man, skillet rocks..

  • I have a Triamp MKII (same as this but with blue lighting) and it sounds nothing like this?? Your tone sounds completly dead to me... like very old strings or a miserable cab.. very strange.

  • As much as I hate to admit it, I agree with you. BUT! I don't know how many times I have to tell everyone this. I went direct, and it was monitored through laptop speakers! It sounds dead because it wasn't done right. I'm going to delete this video soon and do it again. When I do I promise it will be better.

  • @ljuglampa the al triamp is biased differently, in my opinion the al is much better sounding.. and yes this video does not do it justice..

  • Hi, Your demo and playing are great but I would NEVER spend 3500$ for "only" these tones. Especially the clea one sounds a bit cheappy. Amazing HnK !! Way too expensive.

  • cause compressed flash youtube videos are a good way to determine the sound quality of audio equipment.

    >_>

  • Price is insane

  • How much was this amp? I love RUSH and I want to have a perfect RUSH sound. This sounds amazing!

  • The head was $3500 Brand new. I've said this before but, This vid does not do this amp justice. I want to do it again and really capture the true tone and feel of the amp. BTW, If you can get one, I strongly recommend it to you.

  • rush rules and I can't get Alex's tone with my amp I need one of these

  • I want this amp so much

  • Could anyone help me out on what the best amp for heavy rock would be? Like, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Chevelle. Bands like that, I'd prefer it to be tube, and I dont care how much money it is. I like allooottt of gain and a really heavy, meaty sound to it

  • Check out Mesa dude.

  • I'll look into em. Any specific model that would be better ffrom mesa?

  • I own a Dual Rectifier. That thing has more gain than you'll ever need.

  • I heard good things bout the dual rectifiers.

What about the triple rectifiers? i magine there yours kinda only a little better?

  • The only difference between the Dual and Triple Rectifiers is power. The Triple puts out 150 watts

  • I gotcha, thanks for the info

  • You mentioned earlier that the 490 T was the best for Rush. And that sounds pretty good, but what about the '57 Classics? That's what the AL ES-355 has in it. Also, I saw that the 490 T was very similar to the '57s. So what do you know about them?

  • Not, much. I just know that they sound nice and thick. Just the way I like it. Not only is it good for rush covers but it is great for Nickelback I'm finding out. I hear many similarities between H&K and Mesa. I would guess that the 490 T has a slightly higher output that the 57' Classics. But I'm not sure.

  • Sounds really tube-y on the distortion channel, which - I suppose - is the point, the old battered 'n deep fried sole sound.

Do you get a free poster of Lerxst with it?

  • No, I didn't get anything but an amp guard (cover.) Also, This video does not show the amp for what it truly is. It's not gonna sound "awesome." Plus I didn't know what I what I was doing either. I want to do it again to make it sound awsome.

  • I'm sure it's a great amp - it's supposed to sound tube-y. Lerxst has used a billion different ones, and if he likes that one, it's gotta rock.

For the best sounding app I've ever heard on YouTube, search "Les Paul & Trainwreck" - mmmmm crunchy broccoli

( he's in a small muffled room and cranked, which works well for what he's doing - you've got a nice comb filter-y wall behind yours, which is probably smudging your transients for distant mic'ing a bit )

  • awesome amp(Y)

but is it mehh or does it sound like marshal?

  • It's funny. Live it sounds H&K. Recorded, it sounds Marshall. Live, Marshall sounds like Marshall and recorded Marshall sounds like Marshall x3. lol

  • actually, I decided to go direct. The only thing is I didn't have the proper monitors. I monitored back with the speaker in my friend's Macbook. Bad idea! Now, I've got a whole recording setup and program so I can do it right. Also, I wouldn't label this amp so much as tube-y. If you search Snakes and Arrows live and listen to the guitar, that is actually what it sounds like in person and I was trying to capture that sound. That amp sounded cool too, in that vid.

  • Are you using Epi's?

  • Yup. The black Les Paul has a set of "Gibson's" (lol) Burstbucker Pros and the yellow Les Paul Elitist, has "Gibson's" 490T in the bridge position. The guitars may not say Gibson on them, actually the black on does, but they're pretty much Gibsons.

  • NICE! which pickup do you think is better for covering Rush? lol

  • Definitely the 490T. I play to S&A Live and it fits very nicely. Plenty of bottom end with a nice midrange. Very thick but clear sounding. I'm steering away from the Burstbuckers cause they have too much upper mid and high end byte. I almost have to go over and EQ the amp again to make it fit. But they sound awesome with the clean channel.

  • I thought you would say that, lol. is the yellow a Standard?

  • No it's an Elitist. I just bought the most expensive Epi Les Paul I could find and hope for the best. It turned out good.

  • Is there a switch 100 or 50w?

  • You mean a switch to run 50 or 100 Watts? Then yes, it does. For this vid. I used 50 watts.

  • Finally, I've been waiting forever for someone to demo this amp. That thing's awesome. I have the Switchblade head and a Mesa cab with the same speakers, and I was just blown away by that Switchblade. I plan on getting one of these amps as well, but I don't have $3,500 laying around. And good work on the demo songs. I also play most of those. (I have a video of The Main Monkey Business)

  • whats different to the standart triAmp??

  • Not exactly sure. Wish I knew. I get asked that a lot. I know that the tubes are just slightly different. Better, I've read in other's reviews. I think it has a little bit different midrange frequency range.

  • Excellent demo! Love the Rush licks! Just wanted to thank you for posting this. You helped me decide to buy a Triamp MKII (not the AL, but the same except for the 'gator Tolex and purple LEDs).

    Thanks man!

  • Nice amp! now finish painting those walls lol

  • That's funny! I was waiting for someone to say something. I did this in my Dad's autobody shop. All of the walls are dirty. lol

  • Your amp does sound killer. I just got my first tube amp, a B-52 AT 212. I was very suprised at how good it sounded. I got a really good deal on it, I've heard a few bad reviews on it. The cabinet sux but the amp is nice. I would love to be able to afford a hughes but not right now. Nice review, and glad we had a good laugh too. What kinda pups you using ?

    peace

  • thank you for showing us what this amp is really meant for: RUSH!!!!!!

  • Have you compared this to the regular Triamp MKII? Any diffrence in sound?

  • I haven't. I think the regular Triamps have almost a different midrange then the Alex Lifeson head. Listen to Snakes & Arrows live and then R30 from Rush and you'll see what I mean.

  • Decent amp. Great tone. Maybe I will buy one someday, only for fun. In band I will stick to 6505.

  • The clean stage of this amp sounds great, but I'm un impressed with the gain stages. Nice playing dude. Good taste in Riffs :)

  • I understand completely. I've learned so much about recording and have a lot more equipment for recording, so I'm hoping to do this again a lot differently.

  • There is no demo of this amp on Youtube yet because no one has $4000 to buy an amp head.

    Duh.

    Amp sounds great though.

  • You're right, there are more demos of more expensive amps because this one probably doesn't cost $4000.

  • $3500 is pretty damn close to it. I might post a demo of my Triamp soon, but it's nothing different from this video. It definitely beats a 6505 or 5150.

  • Which Triamp do you have? I am maybe trading for an MK1 and am curious to know if that amp has the same sound as this one. I've heard the MK1 and MK2 are virtually the same and that the same is said for the MK2 and the Lifeson. From the clips I've heard, I prefer the Lifeson, but's that's probably just the settings used and recording technique.

  • XANADU! And LA VILLA STRANGIATO!!!! Loads of Rush classics! You're my brother man! Love Rush, best band ever. Alex Lifeson, man, I think he's my all time favorite guitar player too. I dream to get his amp. Not being 16 yet, I can't get a jopb. It'd take a while anyway because I think his head is 3.5 grand. Then the cab is from 1 to 2 grand. So expensive, but SO worth it.

  • Ha, I agree with you man, Rush is the best! But so underrated... It pisses me off sometimes that such an awesome band isn't considered awesome by that much people...

  • I'll get another video with better sound. I'm not really happy with the sound as much as I was.

  • Im his brother lol just to let everyone know because I want too.

  • hey Matt this is Corey nice job
