the metro has a track behind jesmond station which goes underground at mannors! where does it go and why?

My mate and me always used to shout out JESMOND in a jamacian accent when we passed by this.

Great video, i've heard thier planning to put in ticket barriers at Jesmond and West Jesmond Stations, has this happend yet?
