what people don't understand is Duran was past his prime durings the superfights of the 80's, he was the greatest lightweight of all time during the 70's, Sugar Ray was a showboater, glad he got beat by Duran the first time.
@Rundm3p Yea he obviously won, I meant King probably knew who won the fight before anyone else and the fact he was standing by Duran right before the decision was announced meant you knew he won because King always goes straight to the winner to kiss their ass.
We can make excuses till the cows come home...Bottom line is this...Duran beat Leonard...BARELY...when Leonard made the mistake of trying to KO Duran because of Duran insulting his wife before the fight (and that's a FACT). NO excuse for Duran quitting in fight 2. Don't wanna hear about a quick rematch, big ring , SRL running...YOU STILL DONT QUIT!!! Ali didn't quit when Norton broke his jaw and was getting pounded on it...Bottom line, Duran could have said NO and made Leonard wait...

@sinusbradycardia no he didn't .......Sugar Ray just made the mistake of fighting Duran's game then his and still finished the fight.Sugar Ray is a warrior!!!!
@jason6015 Well I won't waste time arguing my opinion vs yours. Don't make excuses for Leonard's loss, because then, I can make the excuse that Duran just didn't care about the rematch and quit and didn't even try in the fight. Leonard said it best, styles make fights and in Leonard Duran I, Duran made this fight and did what he had to do to win. Duran cut off the ring and nullified Leonard's advantages. Don't try and diminish what Duran accomplished. That is worse kind of fan.
@sinusbradycardia You just wasted your time.....ha ha ah......I didn't make an excuse for Leonard's lost.Leonard did.I just believe what Sugar Ray was coming from.Duran quit because he knew he couldn't win.Duran wasn't a true champ because true champs don't quit!! I never been a fan of Duran....wtf? His style is boring and I'm not a fan of quitters.
Duran......showing the true Latino fighting spirit, all machismo. There was a time were mostly Blacks were known ti the American public due to the fact that they had media attention and Whites were not very good. It´s noce to see the unstoppable flood of Latinos, Asians, and East Europeans.
Duran's taunting of Leonard from 4:33 to 4:56 is one of my favorite moments in boxing history. Leonard definitely got him back in the next fight, though.
I thought Leonard won this fight although he was in big trouble in the early stages. He regained his composure and outpunched Duran. These two should have fought at least 4 times. I don't count no mas since it is not relevant. Both of these guys are outstanding fighters that could get you home early. Duran moves up and goes for the big boys and gains the respect of us all. Hearns may have been an aberration but Duran redeemed himself many times over. Great fighters in a great era.
Roberto was sick with food poising when he stopped vs suga gay leonard that second fight,he clearly showed who was the better fighter the first one...
@brycols GTFO you dumb pinoy pride shit...hahah u have 1 great boxer and u think u da best hahahahahahaahahahahahah look how much u make me laugh HAHAHAHAHAAH
When u have as many champions as mexico or usa saying somthing
@brycols Pacquiao is not strong, he is just fighting a bunch of old beaten up fighters to look good. He is a coward just like mayweather. They r no where close to Duran or Leonard. those were true champs that would fight the best in their prime.
@LeungTingWT Tell Mayweather to stop Taking Drugs , and He should agree to the Urine Test ( cuz the Blood test is just a bullcrap excuse) You can see if the guy is using Drugs via Urine Test . So Tell your Mayweather to Fight and stop making excuse . Peace Dude ^__^ V
If Mayweather is so Tough , He'll agree to the Urine Test , cuz the Blood test will make manny weak , Urine Test can detect if the person is using drugs/steroids . If Manny is using drugs , it should start affecting his life right now , but no.... he kicked manny people's ass . and hey , don't call me Idiot . xD
accept change?..whom u kidding?..ask Pac or Gayweather to go fifteen rounds,...with anyone,..if anything,..it's easier now. and trust me,..half of durans and leonards other oppinents would kill either of pacs or gayweather's....evolution my ass. you want evolution? put either of pacs or fm's best performances in against this one by Roberto,..or for that matter leonards. Noooooo contest!!!.
accept change?..whom u kidding?..ask Pac or Gayweather to go fifteen rounds,...with anyone,..if anything,..it's easier now. and trust me,..half of durans and leonards other oppinents would kill either of pacs or gayweather's....evolution my ass.
cheating ass dirty mexicans. how u gonna get hit with a winding upper cut, get hit with all kinds of head and body blows, constantly dance around, not throw no punches, not do nothing but duck and weave and still get a win "BY DECISION"? this muthafucka duran really thought we was fresh with all that intense emphatic ducking, and wtf made him feel hella cocky like he whooped ass and like he had already won after just ducking till the bell rung? thats that brown pride connection all the way.
A lot of people talk shit about today's fighters because they don't want to accept change. The point is, I don't particularly like Mayweather but he and Pac Man would sweep these guys up.
@iljn1988 Magic Johnson was a great Laker. Kobe is better. But that just can't be true because Magic was in the 80's and Kobe is today right? Athletes evolve and get better. One reason why I would say Mayweather and Pac would beat these guys is because they have got to see them and study them as well as all the boxers before them. Training, conditioning and nutrition is way more advanced today. Accept change. Accept evolution.
@brybry19871987, humas have been around for 200,000 years, boxing since 3BC, you think that 20 years between these guys & Floyd/Manny is going to make a huge difference all of a sudden? Can tell that someone has never put on a pair of boxing gloves when they talk about 'evolution.' Boxing training today is more or less the same as 100 years ago. You talk about Pacquiao - erm, who did his coach get all his methods from? That's right, Eddie Futch. Pac is nowhere near as technical as Leonard.
@iljn1988 Training is more or less the same as 100 years ago? How do you type on a keyboard with your head shoved all the way up your ass? They didn't even use gloves or know what evasive, defensive boxing was. Just hit the guy till he falls is how they did it 100 years ago smart guy. And by the way, I don't make the assumption that Pac and May would beat these guys only because they are older, I can tell just by watching their various fights. Superior athletes. Just accept it.
@iljn1988 Hahahaha I just realized you said humans have been around for 200,000 years. I'd love for you to tell me how you know that. Boy I can't wait for this. And if you say "cuz its in my science book" I'll reach through the screen and twist your nipples.
@brybry19871987, as I said, you've clearly never put on boxing gloves in your life, so don't try and tell me that training is much different now. Boxing training in Jim Jeffries' day consisted of lots of cardio-vascular work, pad work, sparring, lifting weights, working the bags and road training. Exactly what Pacquiao and Mayweather do. And back then, they fought routinely for over 30 or 40 rounds. Pacquiao getting knocked out as a young man by Singsurat & Torrecampo, yeah, better athlete, eh!?
To the highly ignorant viewers on here ,to be specific ,the league of fucking morons collectively tht gave 25 thumbs up ...FLOYD MAYWEATHER IS CONDITION TO FIGHT 15 ROUNDS ! and he's not a middle weight !
@underfire11 he could move his head and rol with punches though duran. the gloves they used then were like reyes gloves now moore compact and smaller better for puching and it makes it harder to block. everyone is entitled to thier own opinion though.
that bolo punch ray threw and every one freaked out about in the 13 or 14 didnt land and the ones after didnt either. if these guys had faught at there peak on ther best day with the right game plans id say they are dead even. wonderful fighters!
Respond to this video... duran had power but he knew how to touch the guy up a few times first to set things up. thes two i think are some of the greatest athletes ever to compete in anything!
@1saxonwolf Not trying to argue with you here, but I think saying Duran was the best PFP fighter in the last 40 years might be stretching it a bit. Herns dismantled him, Hagler beat him, and he quit on Leonard in the 2nd fight. Duran was great - no question about it, but you can't really give him the "best PFP crown" with the above mentioned defeats.
@beenova Just my opinion. Duran fought anyone from lightweight - middleweight. Dominating LW, 1 loss at WW, mostly successful at middleweight. Past prime after WW, still became World Champ.
Name a fighter who was better.
Those loses r against hall of famers.
Win/loss is 1 point. More important is how he fought, ring knowledge, speed, power, defense, etc. He was fantastic. Knew the game inside/out.
When Ray Arcel & Freddy Brown tell u somebody was one of the best ever, end of discussion.
@1saxonwolf And I respect you for your opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way trying to take anything away from Duran. He was great! I just wouldn't put him in the "best PFP" discussion is all. I think Hagler was the greatest boxer of that time period. Hagler crushed Herns, went to war with Mugabi and took everything he could give, and should have won the decision against Leonard (the judges gave that fight to Leonard).
@beenova We just don't agree on Duran. I agree Hagler should have got the decision against Leonard, at least a draw at worst. A friend of mine was fighting in Haglers time in Boston. Knew him & said he was a good guy.
people act like he was allot bigger, bieng a middle wieth his whole career and he was bigger than duran who started [retty small. but hagler weighed 160 the weigh in was the same day as the fight so u coulndt "dry out" like guys do now not more than a few pounds atleast. im sure ray leonard and hearns weighed about 153 when they faught at 147. and i agree that hagler won the fight it wass close though and they were all four of them very evenly maached. pfp imo was the no. 1 though.
@gordito0279 that wasnt an asswhooping far from it, it was a close fight. an asswhooping would of consisted of a Lopsided scorecard and or KO. Neither happened. so stop it
PACQUIAO 8-Division World Boxing Champion, who's the greatest boxer of all time? I dont want to compare one from the other they are all boxing great. But Floyd Mayweather Jr is the worlds all time boxing coward.
@Khani2k9 of course you would... Amir Khan fan boy. You wouldn't want to see Roberto Duran just destroy Amir Khan or Manny Pacquiao, would you? Roberto Duran is one of my favorite fighters, but he wouldn't beat Mayweather. He's much better than Mayweather, but if Duran's second fight with Sugar Ray Lenoard is any indication, Mayweather would just frustrate him by not engaging. That would've been great at Lightweight though. He would of KO'd Mayweather at that weight.
@spxeli amir khan fan boy? my 2nd names khan u fuckin faggot, n mayweathers a prick thats why i'd love see roberto duran hand his ass to him, n try looking at the first fight, thers an indication there also..nd he would of KO'D maywaether at any weight end of story. He woudlnt even step in the ring with Duran without havin all his fuckin blood removed with drug tests.
@Khani2k9 hahaha. Like I said, Duran is better than Mayweather, but he wouldn't beat Mayweather. Duran was his best at Lightweight and unlike Leonard, Mayweather would avoid engaging Duran at all costs. He'd constantly be on the defensive and Duran would probably just give up like he did in his second fight with Leonard.
Duran was one of the greatest boxers of all time and the only boxer to beat Leonard in his absolute prime. Knocked out a horse with one punch on a 5 dollar bet.Pure natural fighter. The No Mas thing was bullshit that tarnished his career,he came to fight not dance. One of my all time favorite fighters
LEONARD MAY BE A GOOD FIGHTER BUT HE' A ROGUE FIGHTER AND DOES'NT FIGHT MANFULLY , DOES A RUNNER AND ACTS LIKE A CLOWN WITH HIS SHOWBOATING HE HAD TO BEAT DURAN DOING THAT KIND OF BOXING
AND NOT WINNING IT WITH HIS FISTS TAKING ON THE GREAT ROBERTO DURAN
@beaconsfield201 Ok, but boxing is NOT a street fight. It's mental AND physical. Leonard did that stuff to piss off his opponents, just like Ali did. And it worked. Worked on Duran. Worked on Hagler. Head games before the fight and a flashy show during. That is the complete package. Leonard and Ali, both Masters of the complete art. Although, I take nothing away from the great Duran. He was one tough dude.
@heavynumbertaco I agree he was out of his prime but he still stepped up to a higher weight class and kicked Leonard's ass. He should of retired after that fight though.
@MannyMMA That's a fighter's heart, yeah,Manny. It's tough to admit that you're getting older and slower.Especially when you're a warrior like Duran. I still think if Leonard would have held still and punched it out with him in the No mas fight Roberto would have knocked his ass out
@heavynumbertaco You couldn't of put it better than your words. Sugar Ray was always pussy footing around and also in my opinion was given a fight or the fight was stolen from Marvin Hagler another incredible fighter from that era. Sugar Ray you freaking stink!!!!
@2root2 The media bullshit hyped Leonard.Listen to the announcer say the bolo hit Duran "right on the money".Then they slow it down and the punch didn't hit anything, but air.But people see Leonard windup and use the bolo and they think he's the shit. Don't get me wrong,Leonard was a great fighter,But Duran was a man's man's boxer. And anybody who thinks he's a quitter doesn't know boxing
@jason60152 Yeah I do.And I know there was alot more to why Duran quit in the rematch. Why Leonard pushed the fight up,what Duran did in between fights.I know plenty
@jason60152 Duran beat Durans body up.Leonard's smart,we all know that.He knew what Duran did after he won a fight.Party, eat, party eat, eat, eat. He would get flat out obese.Leonard knw that and set the rematch for 5 months, which would never give Druan time to get into shape. If Leonard wouldn't have danced I still think he wouldn't quit, but he wasn't in any shape to fight. The food poisoning was bs,he was just out of shape. He got his money and didn't give a shit.Later on I think he regretted it
@heavynumbertaco well like i said a true champion isn't going to quit it's his fault he didn't train he could have faked a injury or something if he wasn't ready.Sugar Ray owns Duran face it.
@jason60152 You're right Jason. a true champion goes out on his shield. So who do you like in the Pacquiao Marquez fight.I've been watching 24/7 and Marquez looks really good. We both know styles make fights and man,if I was Freddie Roach I'd be concerned.I think Marquez is in Manny's head. Marquez' age is a probelm for him,but damn,he looks good.Better than he did for Mayweather at that weight
@heavynumbertaco Don't get me wrong Duran is still a hall of famer but sometimes big paydays and winning big fights can make a person less hungry.I just feel you can party and get fat when your career is over. The whole point in having a job is to be the best at it if not then why do the job unless you have no other talents or choice.I think Pacman gonna win just because the age factor and I don't see Marquez being like B-Hop as a great older fighter.Plus I want Pacman to win to see him and Floyd
@jason60152 Couldn't have said it better.Looking at a few more of his later fights,I think Duran didn't give a shit, then started to give a shit when he realized boxing was the cash cow.You can see it when he fought Camacho. He was serious then, but it was too late.A fight I think he won
Champions like these don't exist no more. Fighters nowadays, if they fight 12 rounds at this pace - Next fight they show up with damage goods or get ko'd. These boxers were really dedicated to taking care of themselves. staying healthy, avoiding drugs, & alcohol, partying, even obstaining from sex. now we got boxers who after their 1st loss, they go drinking get wasted, doing cocaine. & when they comeback for their next fight they get lose even worse...
@Hitman1190 none of the fighters nowadays have any defensive head movement compared to fighters 30 years ago. there arent many good trainers in the game anymore.
The announcers would fawn over Ray Leonard Even proffessionals like them, who are supposed to be objective are lulled into seeing what's NOT. At around 0:54 they claim the bolo punch " lands right on the money". OH PLEASE, it does not..
Leonard was a good fighter, but I could do without the Terrel Owens in him. He just could'nt help but to clown up. Davey Moore and Iran Barkley did some of that as well. All three got it from Duran, it was something he disdained in opponents.
Does anyone know what Roberto Duran was saying right when the bell rang? It looked he was shouting something like "I'M THE BEST" and then adding more insults to Sugar Ray and to Benitez.
@moh508th. It was in the eighties that steroids use is rampant but unchecked. What makes you think none of these boxers uses steroids? And who told you Pacman uses steroids? Floyd Mayweather, the number 1 criminal mind ever? Dude, 15 rounds they go and no blood on either of these two? None of them has the intensity of Pacman. Pacman will re-arrange their faces with blood being the only make-up used, honestly.
Ahhhh... the good old times of boxing!!!! back then they did not only put their mouths on the ring, but also their spirit.... shame that Floyd does not want to fight manny pacquiao, it would be the closest to this...
@enrrwa pacqquio wouyld get complately outboxed and ouclassed by Leonard, and Duran would make pacquiao look like an amateur, this 2 fighters are top 15 of All Time, many isnt even top 30, please educate yourself, lets just watch when pac and may finally decide to fight how Mayweather outpoints pac.
@TRIPLESIXSICCNESS. Dude start reading papers and opinions and analysis. Pacman is regarded as number 3 now in front of Henry Armstrong. Leonard is not in the top ten of GOAT and Lampley and Steward put Pacquiao way ahead of Duran. Are you not listening? I think you are the one that needs educating man. BTW, how can we know if Mayweather can outpoint Pacman, he does not even want to fight him, just cowering in fear. For your info dude, Mayweather is not even in the conversation for GOAT.
@gudlakpo WTF? how the hell did Pac get to top 3 of all time?, by beating Margocheato?, a shell of De La Hoya?, losing to a past prime Morales?. I'd say around 20-25 but 3?, he needs Mayweather or Martinez just to get near 15.
Leonard beat the best of the 80's, Duran dominated the 70's and continued to have great fights in the 80's, whilst Pacquiao got a bunch of titles at catchweight against opponents that were coming off of devastating losses.
@MACadamiaNut187 sorry to burst your eggs man. I was not the one who said Pacquiao is number three, the experts did. And honestly I will be believe them more than I would believe you. Peace.
Millions of money and training...the best you can get...Sugar Ray...And Roberto Duran...a street fighter...no money...just a fighter...which one is the true warrior?
@HaComet we will missed those times is hard now alot of interest in money, back then was a little less different Eras but i will say if some of those guy had fought this new guys either of them will defeat this new era of boxing
@joeypalo how can he beat those guys no way my friend different times and alot hearts i will tell you this marquez beat pacman twice and you know that I like Boxing the right way if they fight again we can bet real money marquez can beat pacman this time And my idol is pacman Got it
i love boxing! but i hate boastful boxer swinging his arms like a pendullum starring into his opponent with his eyes widely open . . what happened to this kind of boxer ? they end laying flat on the canvas several times like this boastful LEONARD!!!!
Leonard caught the tail end of Duran's ability, and he couldn't overcome that. Had they fought at Roberto's peak he would likely have been knocked out. The problem with the second fight was that Duran, like Jake Lamotta, had no clue how to take a dive. How did he beat Marvin Hagler? Marvin knew how to take a dive. Hagler started 'acting' like he was tired by the third round - ridiculous. Hagler was a 15 round fighter known for his stamina.Ray Leonard was a commercial fighter with a coke problem.
@007mugabi Duran didnt beat Haglar, duran lost. but he was the first man to go the distance with Hagler after a streak of KO victories. HAgler was at the end of his career too and was slowing down, and having stamina issues. It wasnt the third round, Hagler just takes his time, its later he starts getting fatigued. If you dont believe me watch the HAgler who fought Antufermo and compare the energy level he had compared to Duran, Mugabi, and Leonard, his last fights
@POTATER1228 Just a misunderstanding - I meant 'How did Leonard beat Hagler?' It is my opinion that the Hagler/Leonard fight was fixed. That's why I said that 'Marvin knew how to take a dive.' I feel strongly about this, but I do understand that others may feel differently. Marvin retired afterward, and gets a movie role. That's interesting to me. He would have come into the Leonard fight ready, but he is 'acting' tired early in the fight. Just my opinion.
@POTATER1228 Just watched most of the Hagler/Leonard fight again. I still feel that this fight was fixed. However,I also watched the Hagler/Mugabi fight and,I must admit,Hagler did appear to tire early. In the Leonard fight, listen to the announcer toward the end of the 6th round,he says,'Is he missing! And Ray is doing nothing to make him miss.' Marvin was one of my favorite fighters, but I really feel that he gave this one away.
@mugabi "How did Leonard beat Halger?" THat's a question that a lot of people have been asking for decades, Hagler included. It was not a fix, it was just a controversial decsion, just like Whitaker vs Chavez. Hagler debates to this day that he won the fight, and he retired after this fight and denied a lucrative rematch with Leonard out of disgust. I mean denied the championship with the Antufermo case, and now this? Hagler just got tired of the politics screwing him over and quit. he admits it
@POTATER1228 Marvin was great - the thoughrt that Leonard could really beat him, even if Marvin had started losing his edge, just doesn't wash down easily. I will consider your view, however, and watch more tape. He did tire against Mugabi, and I did noticing him missing some shots in that fight too.
If you compare this to what fighters like Monzon, Sanchez, and Gomez did to equally great fighters moving up such as Napoles and Zarate, Leonard's performance that night in Montreal doesn't look so good. Face it; Duran was an aging lightweight a good two years from his best against DeJesus in their first fight, yet he battered Leonard from ringpost to ringpost. Also, notice how after that fight Leonard had to dictate the terms for almost every nig fight from then on.
@vidnut67- Leonard was great. Duran was FAR from shot. It's a good example of the same fighter against the same opponent using two contrasting styles. Not everyone can do that. I always thought Ray was soft until he fought Hearns.
@theonlysaltspring I never said Duran was shot; you misread my comment. He was, however, 29 years old when he stepped in the ring that night. Any ring expert will tell you that is borderline old for a fighter at that weight range. On top of that, Leonard did what great fighters are NOT supposed to do: lose to a fighter, however great, moving up. Look at how Monzon destroyed Napoles; that is how a great champion is supposed to handle a fighter moving up.
@builder2430 PAST HIS PRIME,MOVING UP DIVISION AND STILL MAKE LEONARD HIS BITCH IN THE 1ST FIGHT

brycols 5 months ago
@brycols Pacquiao is not strong, he is just fighting a bunch of old beaten up fighters to look good. He is a coward just like mayweather. They r no where close to Duran or Leonard. those were true champs that would fight the best in their prime.

cheating ass dirty mexicans. how u gonna get hit with a winding upper cut, get hit with all kinds of head and body blows, constantly dance around, not throw no punches, not do nothing but duck and weave and still get a win "BY DECISION"? this muthafucka duran really thought we was fresh with all that intense emphatic ducking, and wtf made him feel hella cocky like he whooped ass and like he had already won after just ducking till the bell rung? thats that brown pride connection all the way.

A lot of people talk shit about today's fighters because they don't want to accept change. The point is, I don't particularly like Mayweather but he and Pac Man would sweep these guys up.
brybry19871987 6 months ago
@brybry19871987, ha ha ha, that's a good one. Seriously mate, you should do stand up.
iljn1988 6 months ago
@iljn1988 Magic Johnson was a great Laker. Kobe is better. But that just can't be true because Magic was in the 80's and Kobe is today right? Athletes evolve and get better. One reason why I would say Mayweather and Pac would beat these guys is because they have got to see them and study them as well as all the boxers before them. Training, conditioning and nutrition is way more advanced today. Accept change. Accept evolution.
brybry19871987 6 months ago
@brybry19871987, humas have been around for 200,000 years, boxing since 3BC, you think that 20 years between these guys & Floyd/Manny is going to make a huge difference all of a sudden? Can tell that someone has never put on a pair of boxing gloves when they talk about 'evolution.' Boxing training today is more or less the same as 100 years ago. You talk about Pacquiao - erm, who did his coach get all his methods from? That's right, Eddie Futch. Pac is nowhere near as technical as Leonard.
iljn1988 6 months ago
@iljn1988 Training is more or less the same as 100 years ago? How do you type on a keyboard with your head shoved all the way up your ass? They didn't even use gloves or know what evasive, defensive boxing was. Just hit the guy till he falls is how they did it 100 years ago smart guy. And by the way, I don't make the assumption that Pac and May would beat these guys only because they are older, I can tell just by watching their various fights. Superior athletes. Just accept it.
brybry19871987 6 months ago
@iljn1988 Hahahaha I just realized you said humans have been around for 200,000 years. I'd love for you to tell me how you know that. Boy I can't wait for this. And if you say "cuz its in my science book" I'll reach through the screen and twist your nipples.
brybry19871987 6 months ago
@brybry19871987, as I said, you've clearly never put on boxing gloves in your life, so don't try and tell me that training is much different now. Boxing training in Jim Jeffries' day consisted of lots of cardio-vascular work, pad work, sparring, lifting weights, working the bags and road training. Exactly what Pacquiao and Mayweather do. And back then, they fought routinely for over 30 or 40 rounds. Pacquiao getting knocked out as a young man by Singsurat & Torrecampo, yeah, better athlete, eh!?

Who says a "good big man always beats a good little man" ? Robert Duran, the BEST PFP fighter the last 40 + years !!
1saxonwolf 8 months ago
@1saxonwolf remember when duran quit b/c of embarrassment in his rematch with Leonard?
03basesedan 8 months ago
@1saxonwolf Not trying to argue with you here, but I think saying Duran was the best PFP fighter in the last 40 years might be stretching it a bit. Herns dismantled him, Hagler beat him, and he quit on Leonard in the 2nd fight. Duran was great - no question about it, but you can't really give him the "best PFP crown" with the above mentioned defeats.
beenova 7 months ago
@beenova Just my opinion. Duran fought anyone from lightweight - middleweight. Dominating LW, 1 loss at WW, mostly successful at middleweight. Past prime after WW, still became World Champ.
Name a fighter who was better.
Those loses r against hall of famers.
Win/loss is 1 point. More important is how he fought, ring knowledge, speed, power, defense, etc. He was fantastic. Knew the game inside/out.
When Ray Arcel & Freddy Brown tell u somebody was one of the best ever, end of discussion.
1saxonwolf 7 months ago
@1saxonwolf And I respect you for your opinion. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way trying to take anything away from Duran. He was great! I just wouldn't put him in the "best PFP" discussion is all. I think Hagler was the greatest boxer of that time period. Hagler crushed Herns, went to war with Mugabi and took everything he could give, and should have won the decision against Leonard (the judges gave that fight to Leonard).
beenova 7 months ago
@beenova We just don't agree on Duran. I agree Hagler should have got the decision against Leonard, at least a draw at worst. A friend of mine was fighting in Haglers time in Boston. Knew him & said he was a good guy.
1saxonwolf 7 months ago
@beenova
people act like he was allot bigger, bieng a middle wieth his whole career and he was bigger than duran who started [retty small. but hagler weighed 160 the weigh in was the same day as the fight so u coulndt "dry out" like guys do now not more than a few pounds atleast. im sure ray leonard and hearns weighed about 153 when they faught at 147. and i agree that hagler won the fight it wass close though and they were all four of them very evenly maached. pfp imo was the no. 1 though.

He would of KO'd Mayweather at that weight.
spxeli 4 months ago
@spxeli amir khan fan boy? my 2nd names khan u fuckin faggot, n mayweathers a prick thats why i'd love see roberto duran hand his ass to him, n try looking at the first fight, thers an indication there also..nd he would of KO'D maywaether at any weight end of story. He woudlnt even step in the ring with Duran without havin all his fuckin blood removed with drug tests.
Khani2k9 3 months ago
@Khani2k9 hahaha. Like I said, Duran is better than Mayweather, but he wouldn't beat Mayweather. Duran was his best at Lightweight and unlike Leonard, Mayweather would avoid engaging Duran at all costs. He'd constantly be on the defensive and Duran would probably just give up like he did in his second fight with Leonard.
spxeli 3 months ago
Duran was one of the greatest boxers of all time and the only boxer to beat Leonard in his absolute prime. beaconsfield201 6 months ago
@beaconsfield201 That's basically what I just said
TheSmartTeam2010 6 months ago
@beaconsfield201 Ok, but boxing is NOT a street fight. It's mental AND physical. Leonard did that stuff to piss off his opponents, just like Ali did. And it worked. Worked on Duran. Worked on Hagler. Head games before the fight and a flashy show during. That is the complete package. Leonard and Ali, both Masters of the complete art. Although, I take nothing away from the great Duran. He was one tough dude.
Pleaver 6 months ago
@heavynumbertaco I agree he was out of his prime but he still stepped up to a higher weight class and kicked Leonard's ass. He should of retired after that fight though.

@MannyMMA That's a fighter's heart, yeah,Manny. It's tough to admit that you're getting older and slower.Especially when you're a warrior like Duran. I still think if Leonard would have held still and punched it out with him in the No mas fight Roberto would have knocked his ass out

And anybody who thinks he's a quitter doesn't know boxing
heavynumbertaco 3 months ago

jason60152 3 months ago
@jason60152 Yeah I do.And I know there was alot more to why Duran quit in the rematch. Why Leonard pushed the fight up,what Duran did in between fights.I know plenty
heavynumbertaco 3 months ago
@heavynumbertaco Sugar Ray beat Duran's body up.
jason60152 3 months ago
@jason60152 Duran beat Durans body up.Leonard's smart,we all know that.He knew what Duran did after he won a fight.Party, eat, party eat, eat, eat. He would get flat out obese.Leonard knw that and set the rematch for 5 months, which would never give Druan time to get into shape. If Leonard wouldn't have danced I still think he wouldn't quit, but he wasn't in any shape to fight. The food poisoning was bs,he was just out of shape. He got his money and didn't give a shit.Later on I think he regretted it
heavynumbertaco 3 months ago
@heavynumbertaco well like i said a true champion isn't going to quit it's his fault he didn't train he could have faked a injury or something if he wasn't ready.Sugar Ray owns Duran face it.
jason60152 3 months ago
@jason60152 You're right Jason. a true champion goes out on his shield. So who do you like in the Pacquiao Marquez fight.I've been watching 24/7 and Marquez looks really good. We both know styles make fights and man,if I was Freddie Roach I'd be concerned.I think Marquez is in Manny's head. Marquez' age is a probelm for him,but damn,he looks good.Better than he did for Mayweather at that weight
heavynumbertaco 2 months ago
@heavynumbertaco Don't get me wrong Duran is still a hall of famer but sometimes big paydays and winning big fights can make a person less hungry.I just feel you can party and get fat when your career is over. The whole point in having a job is to be the best at it if not then why do the job unless you have no other talents or choice.I think Pacman gonna win just because the age factor and I don't see Marquez being like B-Hop as a great older fighter.Plus I want Pacman to win to see him and Floyd
jason60152 2 months ago

Leonard was a good fighter, but I could do without the Terrel Owens in him. He just could'nt help but to clown up. Davey Moore and Iran Barkley did some of that as well. All three got it from Duran, it was something he disdained in opponents.

TRIPLESIXSICCNESS 1 year ago
@TRIPLESIXSICCNESS. Dude start reading papers and opinions and analysis. Pacman is regarded as number 3 now in front of Henry Armstrong. Leonard is not in the top ten of GOAT and Lampley and Steward put Pacquiao way ahead of Duran. Are you not listening? I think you are the one that needs educating man. BTW, how can we know if Mayweather can outpoint Pacman, he does not even want to fight him, just cowering in fear. For your info dude, Mayweather is not even in the conversation for GOAT.
gudlakpo 1 year ago
@gudlakpo WTF? how the hell did Pac get to top 3 of all time?, by beating Margocheato?, a shell of De La Hoya?, losing to a past prime Morales?. I'd say around 20-25 but 3?, he needs Mayweather or Martinez just to get near 15.
Leonard beat the best of the 80's, Duran dominated the 70's and continued to have great fights in the 80's, whilst Pacquiao got a bunch of titles at catchweight against opponents that were coming off of devastating losses.

tonymall1 1 year ago
Leonard caught the tail end of Duran's ability, and he couldn't overcome that. Had they fought at Roberto's peak he would likely have been knocked out. The problem with the second fight was that Duran, like Jake Lamotta, had no clue how to take a dive. How did he beat Marvin Hagler? Marvin knew how to take a dive. Hagler started 'acting' like he was tired by the third round - ridiculous. Hagler was a 15 round fighter known for his stamina.Ray Leonard was a commercial fighter with a coke problem.
007mugabi 1 year ago
@007mugabi Duran didnt beat Haglar, duran lost. but he was the first man to go the distance with Hagler after a streak of KO victories. HAgler was at the end of his career too and was slowing down, and having stamina issues. It wasnt the third round, Hagler just takes his time, its later he starts getting fatigued. If you dont believe me watch the HAgler who fought Antufermo and compare the energy level he had compared to Duran, Mugabi, and Leonard, his last fights
POTATER1228 1 year ago
@POTATER1228 Just a misunderstanding - I meant 'How did Leonard beat Hagler?' It is my opinion that the Hagler/Leonard fight was fixed. That's why I said that 'Marvin knew how to take a dive.' I feel strongly about this, but I do understand that others may feel differently. Marvin retired afterward, and gets a movie role. That's interesting to me. He would have come into the Leonard fight ready, but he is 'acting' tired early in the fight. Just my opinion.
007mugabi 1 year ago
@POTATER1228 Just watched most of the Hagler/Leonard fight again. I still feel that this fight was fixed. However,I also watched the Hagler/Mugabi fight and,I must admit,Hagler did appear to tire early. In the Leonard fight, listen to the announcer toward the end of the 6th round,he says,'Is he missing! And Ray is doing nothing to make him miss.' Marvin was one of my favorite fighters, but I really feel that he gave this one away.
007mugabi 1 year ago
@mugabi "How did Leonard beat Halger?" THat's a question that a lot of people have been asking for decades, Hagler included. It was not a fix, it was just a controversial decsion, just like Whitaker vs Chavez. Hagler debates to this day that he won the fight, and he retired after this fight and denied a lucrative rematch with Leonard out of disgust. I mean denied the championship with the Antufermo case, and now this? Hagler just got tired of the politics screwing him over and quit. he admits it
POTATER1228 1 year ago
