I think the issue is rap is now just like sports it's more about making money then make music. If u watch college sports there's more passion and realness when the players are doing their thing. When they go pro it's "My contract isn't big enough!" I think that the same thing in music. I'm 28, a product of the Golden Era of HipHop, when passion drove the music, not the signing bounses......peace yall
@Chocolati83,the difference between rap music and the NFL is that those guys still show mad respect to their veterans and predecessors and mention them all the time. Rap music in the mainstream however, seldom ever mentions any of the forefathers and neither do they show them any respect. For example,BET refused to play the music video for De La Soul's "Shopping Bags" because they said it didn't appeal to their targeted audience and that they weren't relevant to BET's viewers. That's messed up.
One thing that breaks my heart more than the rubbish rap today is that ol skool rappers did not make near as much money as these lazy rappers today and yet they gave us their very best. Those days people didn't listen to rap as much, and tv stations didn't show love to this good music. Today rappers become millionaires when they don't always deserve it. It's not fair at all. De La Soul, the Pharcyde etc, those guys deserved to be living large today. Keep buying real music folks.
@tloutle50, so true. And what's even more insulting, people nowadays call someone like Lil' B (who is a terrible rapper) the best ever. And then you wonder why people have such a negative stereotype about rap music! They put those rappers with not nearly as much talent as someone like The Pharcyde on front street earning millions, while these guys are steadily pushed aside and collect dust on the back shelves of rap music history. But then if we say something about it, we're "haters".
this group should have done a collaboration with the Deftones! Old school Deftones + Old school Pharcyde = pure MAGIC!!!! Too bad I cannot turn back the hands of time. : '(
I love Pharcyde when they do serious hip hop classics like this. Runnin' is another example. Does anyone know any other Pharcyde songs that are similar?

Im still glad, cause i know if i ever have kids, they and their M8s will ask me: 'what is this kool shit u listenin to?'
these dudes are defo "poetic melodic and ill" so why the fuck would yall put thumbs down for rametep100 bitches who are caught up in the ego need to listen to more pharcyde eat a dick an shut the fuck up ya digg!
Man I remember when I first truly listened to this song. It was a warm summers day when I was 14, I was walking up the road on my way back from school, it was hot and I was cooking in my uniform, but when I heard this I was just blown away. There was some absolute classics in this era of hip hop - the quality of the tunes has not been since surpassed. Those days are gone... but the memories are still strong.
@silumtao I remember at the age of 15 going on 16 in 96, the sky provided a grey malinchony atmosphere with a hint of a rainy grey through out the day, as I'm on my way home from an 8 hour shift at Wendy's. Austin Tx was the city, 11pm was the clock,"The House Of Fat Beats" was the sesssion per 91.7KVRX(co-op station: UT Campus) with hosts: Kerrie & Lez......Yeah............they provided.. THANK GOD.

classic song, this came out and questlove was obsessed with it and had the beat on loop and decided to do his own take on it with the roots which became 'the hypnotic'. he talks about this somewhere, i think on one of his myspace blogs.
