I would like to caution everyone from performing lazy vaults over moderately high chain link fences, or any barrier that has sharp stuff on the top. The lazy vault is a pretty low jump, and if you can't clear the entire barrier, you may have to slide your butt on the top to get over, especially at low speeds.
And excellent tutorial, I just came back to clear up my technique after I cut my ass over a chain link fence.
Is it possible or recommended to do lazy vault while approaching the obstacle head on instead of from an angle. I can do lazy vaults quite well I would say, but unfortunately it's the only vault I'm comfortable with, or basically I can't do other vaults. So should I learn other vaults or just try doing lazy vault head on?
Damn my bad i think i just flagged this on accident isnt parkour just basic running and jumping over and tgrough while free run is freestyle with flips and stuff if ur guna reply dont be an asshole and be like u noob gtfo if u no nothing sheesh im learning this sport/hobbie.
@TeamVenomShow Yeah pretty much, but your saying it with disrespect :-/ . I would say it as: Parkour is overcoming obstacles to get from point A to point B quick and efficiently. Freerunning is to run with creativity, fluidity, style etc.
because im really not all for the flips and stuff but i love the goin over around and through obstacles wouldi be called a parkourist free runner or niether
Just got this down today. I was surprised at how simple it was once I got comfortable with committing myself to it. Also, I'm more comfortable when I'm not using my dominant hand (right). Anyone know why?
I love lazy vaults because they are relaxing, can come out of walking pace without slowing down or speeding up, and can be done in a backpack. They get me where I need to go on a daily basis.
great tutorial! i think it would be nice if you bought a camera that can film in slowmotion cause it's kinda hurtfull to watch a slowmo clip when it's not filmed in slowmo. I own a casio fc-100 and I use it often to tape myself and analyse my techniques =) i think it should be great for this kind of tutorials
ur doin the lazy vault wrong, chris grant from glasgow parkour taught me how to do it(no joke)
1. if ur doing the lazy vault going left. u should take of on your right leg & ur left leg should go over the wall first and ur left should land first then ur right leg. u dont land on both legs at the same time ok.
is vaulting over a rail ALOT harder than a wall or just a bit? im used to vaulting over mid/high thigh high objects but should i find 1 waist high and practice before moving to a rail? oh btw i never used a rail before
no its not not many ppl kash poles, they usually kash thicker things and im not wrong cause on one of david belle explaining basic vaults he says that
ok ur first vault is a 2 handed vault underbar, then it does it again in slow motion and ur 2nd vault is a two handed vault but then u put ur hand back,if u did it in a monkey it would of been a kash
Is there any vault or technic for getting rails with zacks? where I live are very many of those, I tried it with different jumps and got hurt, I have no proper Idea...please help
not sure if this was in the video but i was playing around with the vault and i found it's smoother if you take your first hand off as soon your other hand comes down
That's true. Thanks for the advice. I just watched the video on Speed Vaulting and it seems I have been doing that when I thought i was doing a Lazy Vault, since in speed vaults, it seems you only use one hand to plant onto the obstacle. Again, thanks for the advice and awesome video. I'll practice both.
I can't do this from over 5 feet because everytime I land my body freezes and doesn't let me roll or sometimes I land but sudden landing causes pain to go up my legs. Advice?
I'll be honest, I'm new. Though I'll guess the pain is because of the poor landing. Land with the ball of your foot, and if that doesn't work, try to be more gentle I guess.
@ParkourDenver Your comment comes to mind whenever I do Parkour. Thank you for posting your legendary quote that I will always remember. Stay safe, dude. ;)
The lazy vault is usually done at an angle, while the speed vault is usually done with a straight approach.
With the lazy vault you use your other leg to kick as you already noticed and with the lazy vault you also put your other hand down for support after your legs cleared the obstacle.
Thanks alot this is really good, really clear instructions

it's actually really easy. at first i tried it on a small tree that fell down then i did it on a sort of bench thing that was waste height. took a run up then did it but i put my foot down until i could do it without touching it with my feet

btw thx for your videos. I learned the basic very well and I hope i can response to your vids with my own pk-session in a couple of month :-)
Hi, i'd love to be able to do this, but i have absolutely no strength in my arms (i'm a girl lol so don't work out the arms much!) Will i still be able to do this? I mean, i can't hold my own weight or anything like that, and to be honest i'm no good at anything like this.
Parkour form what I've found is ALOT of upper body strength and technique. I have been training up for about a month now just to do some of the basics.
So really, you should be in great shape for ANY parkour or you can badly hurt.
parkour does invole a certain amount of strength but mostly its about transfering momentum and balancing out your weight it shouldnt be to hard for you to get to a point where you will be comfortable and able to do most if not all these moves. keep trying practice hard and come to one of our jams so you can be around people who can help you improve and become better in this art. if that is what you after.
hi, I'm startin to learn and I think I have mastered the basic lazy vault but how do you do those vaults on a rail sets by walking on the curb, pros lazy just by turning their body parallel to the rail and their feet not on the ground(at the base of the rail). can't seem to have that energy...someone teach me.
i'm having a problem with my twohanded vaults when im hanging off a railing and my feet are on ground right underneath the railing... that's not a good explanation...what is done at 4:11. i can do a two handed vault normally but not one like that. can anyone help me with this problem?
Might be a bit tricky to explain only with text, but basically you pull the rail towards you with some power (you can see what I mean on my turn vault tutorial) so that it starts propelling you forward, then as the lazy, you balance your weight on your arm to swing you thru. We are going to make a two handed vault soon.
your tutorials are better than the rest because they do the whole step by step progression.
what are your tips for the first part? i don't have enough muscle strength to hold my body up on one arm and balancing it. I can only do it on ledges that are about 4 and a half feet but I can't reach 5 feet. I'm lifting weights as well but are there any recommendations?
isnt it the opposite of lazy to jump a wall, rather than walk around the wall itself?!?!

What's the difference between the speed and lazy vault???
Limabeast 11 months ago
@Limabeast lazyvault you're sideways, lifting your legs over the obstacle. the weight goes on your arm.
speed vault you're using momentum to carry you. your body goes horizontal but is still facing forward. little to no weight goes on the tap.

Dude you are describing it the same way is being shown on this video.
For drops I land with both legs to minimize impact, or as in this vid to show the transition everything else that you said is shown on this video.
If you look at 2:40 it is one at the time as I explain.
By the way, doesnt matter which leg you land with on the other side. One at the time doesnt mean, left then right or right then left.

Do you need to have your second hand touch the obstacle? When I was practicing lazy vaults, I found it easier to vault over using only one hand.
Thanks for any input
FEWF 2 years ago 5
With the second hand is much easier to redirect yourself to continue on the direction you desire.
If you use one hand you will noticed your body is not quite stable as you land.

Without a doubt.
Sure there are heaps of "how to" vids out there, but these have step-by-step confidence builders as well.

Hi, i'd love to be able to do this, but i have absolutely no strength in my arms (i'm a girl lol so don't work out the arms much!) Will i still be able to do this? I mean, i can't hold my own weight or anything like that, and to be honest i'm no good at anything like this.
any advice?

Parkour form what I've found is ALOT of upper body strength and technique. I have been training up for about a month now just to do some of the basics.
So really, you should be in great shape for ANY parkour or you can badly hurt.

parkour does invole a certain amount of strength but mostly its about transfering momentum and balancing out your weight it shouldnt be to hard for you to get to a point where you will be comfortable and able to do most if not all these moves. keep trying practice hard and come to one of our jams so you can be around people who can help you improve and become better in this art. if that is what you after.

Keep practicing, keep trying, experiment.

hi, I'm startin to learn and I think I have mastered the basic lazy vault but how do you do those vaults on a rail sets by walking on the curb, pros lazy just by turning their body parallel to the rail and their feet not on the ground(at the base of the rail). can't seem to have that energy...someone teach me.

and how do I lazy then sit on the rail??? I keep sliding off and hurting my butt...

i'm having a problem with my twohanded vaults when im hanging off a railing and my feet are on ground right underneath the railing... that's not a good explanation...what is done at 4:11. i can do a two handed vault normally but not one like that. can anyone help me with this problem?

Might be a bit tricky to explain only with text, but basically you pull the rail towards you with some power (you can see what I mean on my turn vault tutorial) so that it starts propelling you forward, then as the lazy, you balance your weight on your arm to swing you thru. We are going to make a two handed vault soon.
UrbanCurrent 3 years ago
ok, i understand that part. do i jump upwards or up and back before using my arms?
360Naruto 3 years ago
You jump up and slightly forward, just lightly, because the arms are the ones that will do most the work to pull you forward.

i bboy(breakdance)so balance really isnt an issue for me (think turtle freeze)

your tutorials are better than the rest because they do the whole step by step progression.
what are your tips for the first part? i don't have enough muscle strength to hold my body up on one arm and balancing it. I can only do it on ledges that are about 4 and a half feet but I can't reach 5 feet. I'm lifting weights as well but are there any recommendations?
09ine 3 years ago
You really dont have to hold your weight in plce, that is just to show how the move works, but you can try to do that as a way of conditioning also.
