He has the most relaxed (yet powerful) technique in all Kyokushin Karate-ka I've seen. Only towards the exhaustive end of his 100-man kumite did he tend to tense up a bit. Second to his "relaxed and powerful" technique would be Hajime Kazumi and Francisco Filho.

i was never here to critisize kyokushin. i love kyokushin, but when u tell me that matsui has the best leg technique, well then...isnt kyokushin only about kicking? would u ever say something about a kyokushin karatekas punching power? no. almost all knockouts come by highkick.

i was just sayin. punches to the faces are crucial. if u dont practise them, ur going down in k1 or muay thai

Almost anyone can KO an opponent with punches to the face, even if they are an inexperienced fighter.

It takes MUCH more skill to KO an apponent using just kicks and knees, not many people can do that.

PS: Sosai Mas Oyama brought his students to Thailand were they challenged and defeated some of Muay Thai's most legendary fighters including BLACK COBRA.

And Kyokushin kicks ass in K1! Andy Hug, Francisco Filho, Glaube Feitosa..etc. The founder of K1 Kazuyoshi Ishii did Kyokushin.

@BrettNASTYY yes, but as easy it is for you to do it with punches, it is for your opponent, so you better be able to defend them. And besides that, k1 is simply a more realistic type of standup fighting, dont matter if it is harder to KO with kicks.

And i absolutely do not wish to disrespect kyokushin. Its a tough damn sport. And a kyokushin karateka can kick ass in MT, but when it comes to somebody who never defended punches to the face...in MT and k1 he is deadmeat.

in kyokushin we train to punch the face and also to defend from face attacks,, we just don't use them in the tournament thats all.. there are videos on the net where kyokushin was challenged by k-1.. please see how kyokushin warriors have fought..

i have seen ALL of these videos already. i know quite something about standup fighting, and let me tell you, that i myself have started off with a form of karate. i love karate, but lets face it.

if you put the best kyokushin purist fighter against the best muay thai or k1 purist fighter, kyokushin would be knocked out by face punches.

the kyokushin vs muay thai on youtube is not a kyokushin purist, he has trained with punches to the head too.

@CarlitoJohnson Yes, but is the same thing for a k1 purist fighter who wants fight in a Kyokushin tournament. If you practice a martial art with its own fight rules and want to participate in a tournament with other rules you must to train for this rulez. If you put the best muay thai/boxe/k1/mma purist he probably will lost the first fight in a Kyokushin tournament. (sorry for my bad english XD)

but the point is about most realistic combat. kyokushin uses no punches to the face, which is lethal in k1. nowadays some schools do allow it with head gear and gloves and all. but the full contact tournaments remain withotu punches to face. thats all iwanted to say.

Kyokushin karate style is awesome ... well i'm a practician of goyu ryu style, but for some personal matters i had to stop training... i guess i'm not betrying my style if i give an opinion of this powerful karate do style. Shokei matsui is an awesome martial artist, his power can be seen through his fast and terrible ushiro mawashi geri. I congratulate those who practice this style, this style really seems to work with body and mind ... that's my sincere opinion.

Leg sweeps and head kicks are the best strategy in a massive kumite. Try fighting anything from 30-100 guys in a row... you'd want each guy down ASAP.
