Thanks for uploading this! I used to play my parents' LP album of this movie (the one whose jacket is in the video), frequently, and many times have wished I had it. Thanks to you, thanks to Mario Lanza (since hearing it, I could never imagine anyone else in the part), and thanks to the great composer Sigmund Romberg for so much lovely and memorable music!
my favourite song of marios . his voice is gold . the dvd has just been released in the u.s.a '' the student prince '' yaay at last .....greg......australia. :)))
you do not an orchestra when you have great singers and minor key operatic arrangement. this is the best version performed by lanza as i have the lanza version. rated 11+ ROGHARM
I just had a terrific yearning this afternoon to hear this particular ballad by the great American tenor Mario Lanza. I still have the LP album of "Prince" that this posting is taken from. Although I don't have anything to play it on anymore, my wife and I are keeping it, along with about 10 others that have sentimental value to us. Bravo, divo Mario!
I have this LP even though I don't have a phono to play it on anymore. Thanks for these postings. I do have the program of Summer Opera of Wash., DC's production of "Prince" in July, 1995. I was a member of the chorus. I think the bitter demise of Lanza's career and life and the tragic end to Jerry Hadley's life are somewhat similar in a way. Although Lanza didn't try to commit suicide, as Hadley did, he might just as well. Two great American tenors lost to us, but we still have their voices.
This is a truly great song with two fabulous voices. It makes me angry that MGM managed to screw things so much that Lanza and Doubleday aren't even singing together. (Notice the distinct change in sound when Lanza starts singing.)
He recorded his part and quit/got fired. So his voice was patched into the soundtrack. Hence the lack of true "duet" singing that is written into the original score. Sigh.
Heidelberg on the River Necker is a beautiful spot so it's not hard to imagine how the music to this film fits in. My favourite musical film with special meaning.

As great a Pavarotti was, he is not as near as impressive as the great Mario Lanza, and this ballad it's so beautiful!

Even though he has been gone 50 years, his singing is still as fresh to listen to as it was then. RIP Mario

OMG...This is the same album I had when I was young. Wonderful duet - Mario Lanza's voice thrills me still.
