  • holy shxt the fire was epic

  • Thank you my friend.Your work is woderfull.Keep us in mind when you work in thes projects and let us see them, please.Hello from the balearic Islands(Spain)

  • Wow my time lapses look nothing like that. I'm just starting off as a filmer and I was wondering how do you make the cities look so "lit" up and colorfully bright? Because I know in real time it's quite dark and less illuminated like that. None the less it is very beautiful. I hope you respond i know you have a lot of comments..

  • @joshybumboshy I leave the shutter open for a little while to allow the light to sink in. I'm shooting these videos on the 5D2 but I'm not using the video function on that camera. These are all RAW still frames coming off the camera that I process in After Effects. Hope that helps explain some of it.

  • @awalker599 I appreciate your response! So your saying I should leave my shutter at like 1/2 or more or less? and take a picture every 10 seconds or so? Sorry youtube is my only resource for help!

    -Josh

  • Which color correction application did you use for this project? Did the areas of shooting have much light pollution? Great job it looks very nice

  • @dslrfilmrevolution I'm just using the Adobe Camera RAW to do all my adjustments in After Effects. Most of the time I don't have to go beyond that program for any color correction. Sometimes I use Lightroom but most of the adjustments you have in ACR in AE will do the trick.

  • That's amazing,.. when I see it, i feel thet we all are so tiny

  • Do you remember where you used the Zeiss ZF 85mm f1.4 in here? I'm getting myself a 5D pretty soon, booth for filming and photos and I'm interrested in the Zeiss ZF 85mm f1.4. Please just set the time (0:00) where you used it, that would be really nice. Thanks!

    Really beautifull vid btw:D

  • @jotunboy81 Sorry it took such a long time to respond to your post but I used the Zeiss ZF 85mm f1.4 lens on those fire shots with the hill sides burning. But I'm using the lens a lot in some of my new stuff I'm shooting and I love it. Its a very sharp lens and I would highly recommend it.

  • The world is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • Just amazing !Thanks!

  • A pleasure to watch -- all of it but especially fire hillsides at 3:30 (was that the Station Fire?) and the deep sky star clips -- did you have to go out in the mountains or desert to get those?

  • i kinda want to cry. epic.

  • The combination of images and music starting at 2:00 gave me chills

  • gorgeous!

  • ...Simply, Beautiful. Thank You.

  • where are you at :43? I'm trying to see if that was in los angeles, but i don't recognize any of the architecture.

  • @c2thew that's Cincinnati Ohio.

  • amazing work sir. please keep making more vids!

  • how many gb i need for a good time lapse ? pls write back quickly

  • @TheTrickyTube well it kind of depends on which camera you are using. I'm shooting all these on the Canon 5D Mark 2 and each frame is around 28MB. So I shoot with 32GB CF cards. I can get about 2-3 different setups using that card. But if you have an 8GB card you should be able to get some shots with that.

  • @awalker599 oright thank you me and my class making a trip around italy so i need alot of cards to film the usually trip and some with timelapses

  • ...beautiful peaceful meditation on our Lives on earth...

    <3

  • where were the pictures of the stars taken?! they're so beautiful i want to go there and try my hand at time lapse!

  • awalker599... this is a very good job. Go ahead!

  • I trying the same things...look at my channel-Time lapse in playlists:-)

---but there are much better scenes than my vidz!

  • 0:33 - 0:53 was great. I love seeing mid-level shots like that.

  • nice work

  • Awe-inspiring ! beautiful :)

  • @raykia2000 Thanks for sharing, it is breathtaking!

  • Beautiful. Awesome. Spectacular.

  • wow.. it`s like you are in a dream:).. speachless..

ps (do you use a software to control your camera to take stills ?

  • I'm using a Timer Remote Controller that Canon makes for the higher end cameras to fire off the frames.

  • 3:15 is AWESOME. make more of that! =)

see if you can find an even better vantage point. that's probably the tough part... hunting for good places to film?

  • 2trippy5stars

  • Absolutely amazing :D, That is so weird that the stars are out when it is still day

  • @FroeFilms those shots were taken at night. The moon was out so the surrounding environment looks like its day time.

  • @awalker599 Ahh i c, thank you :D

It is beautiful though, great work!!

    5 Stars!!!

  • @awalker599 i think he means at 4:25 cause there is no way the moon is out then, it looks like its in the middle of the day wow absolutely gorgeous, beautiful work bravo!

  • @Tackleqb the shot at 4:25 was shot in the middle of the night and it was the full moon illuminating everything. Glad you like it.

  • This is so amazing..a really good job, I want to give it more than 5 stars. Breathtaking.

  • @fraser8003 I'm glad you like it so much. I'm hoping that the next video will top this one. But the next video won't be until the summer.

  • absolutely breathtaking

  • When you shot stars, how often did you take a picture? Every 30 seconds?

  • Every 15 seconds.

  • so you waited there or left camera? awesome vids man great job I LOVe L.A. all of it the beach awesome

  • @111205dng all of the shots I waited with the camera. The shots that have the stars moving in them took the longest.

  • Niiiiiice! and I appreciate you taking the time to make the awesome vids that you make.

  • very nice! I am deciding between the Zeiss 85mm 1.4 or the nIkon af version. How is the bokeh performance of the Zeiss?

  • @Stieglitzwouldloveit I first had the Nikon 85mm 1.8 and then I switched to the Zeiss 85mm 1.4. The Zeiss lenses are built way better than the Nikon glass and they are very sharp. The boken on the Zeiss lenses is very nice. I would say try it out first to see if you like it. But I'm very happy with the switch to Zeiss glass.

  • What was your ISO?

  • @CinemaSanders most of the city stuff was at 200-250 and the star timelapse was at 3200.

  • simple amazing! great work! thanks for share it.

  • ...fantastic...

  • A beautifully crafted time lapse video!

    I love it!

  • I was pounding my head to figure out where the music was from, they use it on the show LOST right?

  • this was truly impressive. just learning to do timelapse stuff here on my nikon d700. few questions. in FCP, when i import, they all end up being a few seconds each, i usually take one sequence, put it in another, and speed it up by 10,000 %. How many fps would you say its running at?

Secondly, for the star photos, what was the exposure, and the burst rate? How'd you get the sky so bright without overexposing the trees?

thanks! i'll send you some of my timelapses

  • In FCP you need to go into the settings and change the import still frames to 1 frame of video. The rate that all my videos play back at is 24fps. I find this is the best way to play back timelapse because it gives a nice film look to the footage. The star timelapse was shot at ISO 3200 with a shutter speed of 15 seconds.

  • Stunning! I for one would buy a blu-ray full of that!

  • Incredible.

  • AMAZING, especially the moving stars shots.

  • City of Angels?

  • Yes, most of it was shot in Los Angeles. Some of the shots in the beginning were of Cincinnati.

  • This was really cool!

  • Can you comment on the process? Does the 5D shoot video like the new 7D does? What were your settings and how were you able to shoot for so long without stopping?

  • The 5D2 does shoot video like the 7D but that's not how I did these. I would take about 350 pictures of each shot in full size RAW. Then I would use Lightroom to make adjustments and resize the picture. After that I would import all the adjusted frames into FCP and have it assemble the frames. The batteries on the 5D2 last for a really long time. Plus I have the extra grip so I can have two batteries running at the same time. The shots that took the longest where the star timelapse shots.

  • About 350? How long are you on location for?

  • I planned on only watching a minute or so of this video, but it was so awesome, I watched it in its entirety. All I can say is "WOW"! You are very talented.

  • so amazing. i'd really like to watch a version without the logo at the bottom of the video. but i loved it.

  • The logo is there to make sure people don't just use these clips wherever they want. This is one of the things I do for a living so I have to project myself.

  • agree, but it would be nice to watch it totally hd without the logo. hopefully one day you'll sell a dvd or something online, so i can have it! anyway, amazing work and loved it.

  • I'm playing with the idea of doing a best of DVD on Blu-Ray. Would really be the only way to show these clips. Seeing these in 1080p on a big screen is amazing. There are all kinds of things moving around in those star timelapse shots other than the stars.

  • Good idea.

  • mesmerizing

  • very well done

  • Amazing. Don't you have a Vimeo version? :-)

  • Yes I do and Youtube won't let me post the link for some reason. Just go to the site and do a search for 599 Productions and you'll see it. Also vimeo doesn't block some of my videos over seas.

  • Great !

  • Wow! Just amazing! In the 3 or so years I have been on youtube, I have only favorited half a dozen videos. Half of those are your works!

  • He truly is.

  • You are the best Time Lapse maker ever!
