Man, I lost count of the times I'd masturbate to the love making scene on the couch..Michael Fassbender has this devious quality about him that is totally intriguing. Like sometimes the people he plays do things that just right out disgust you but you stick with it because he is so damn good at infusing that humanity and charm into even the most mischievous or generally unappealing of characters. I really hope he retains that quality and doesnt sell out to Hollywood's theme park commercialism.
this isn't supposed to be 'step up' her dancing isn't the theme of the movie, its about her finding someone that encourages her dreams and the passion she has for them, your not watching the film for the right reasons if you are judging her dancing
I think the dancing is intentionally bad. It argues that children are brought up by the media and have an unusually warped sense of self - talented or not, everyone wants to be a star but most are just plain rubbish. Wannabes. When Connor tells her her dancing is good, we all know he's lying because it really is terrible. In my opinion, this is one of the ways he manipulates her into having sex with him. Depressing, yes but a great film, both subtle and in your face
@MastaEss I guess movies are like books its personal taste, I just did'nt see the 'great ' in this movie at all . Especcially, when the stroyline is based on a large block of very sruffy flats and the pathetic uneducated , social assistant scrougers that reside in them. Lets not forget the single mums that bang married men who sleep with their 15 year old daughters . I just couldnt understand why the daughter didnt take her mother to see who he really was a mrried man with a kid.
The whole point of the storyline was to show how some people actually live, and they actually have dreams too. This is real, and really does happen, but this is the first time it's ever been 'admitted' to us all. It's a very emotional movie, and although it wasn't based on a ture story, it still happens. Wether you personally enjoyed the movie is a differant point, but there was definatly a down to earth reason for film.
You're right, it is personal taste. I like films which challenge me and force my mind to think from a different perspective. The beauty of this film lies in the fact that it's so mundane. There's no over-dramatic story line, or 'clever twist' at the end which I find very refreshing. And despite the mundaneness it still manages to draw you in and keep you engaged - wondering, guessing, dreading... and that's what makes it great! It belongs in a genre of it's own.
@MoonPhase94 Connor? Well in an interview, Michael Fassbender said Connor was really just drunk, it was a spur of the moment thing, but on a deeper level Connor uses sex as an escape from all his problems in his marriage, so he wasn't really trying to take advantage, he was just using her as an escape. Still awful, but yeah Micheal says Connor didn't plan to use her, it just happened.
@Lindseygirl1212 I can see that, but I suppose I feel that way because, though he may not have been planning to do what he did, I think there were flirtatious and sexual undertones early on that, being the adult, he probably should have stopped. But then, she had a crush on him and we only see it from her side, so who knows? It may have been completely innocent (until the sex) from his POV.

He really did take advantage of her youth,
your first experience of sex will be the one that you will remember ....
always and now whenever she will have sex with other men she'll always remember him face.
