  • Awesome the Belvedere wins!

  • 0:41 - the end of the video , that's power only plymouth fury's/belvederes have!

  • i wish i had a plymouth fury from 1958

  • @ussenterprisenxo1 my grampa bought a 57 fury brand new in 1957!! it was gold colored!

  • Dodge was to Plymouth as Mercury was to Ford....a class difference. Yet both had that left-over Virgnal Exner styling....yrs ahead of GM!

  • These cars were really built for the highway, weren't they?

  • A pair of beautiful cars :)

  • I love the old 58 Plymouth. Very nice.

  • Gary--I was at a car show in Oxnard last month and saw a gorgeous '59 DeSoto Firedome Seville, Castelian Red with a white top. Bone stock perfect, everything factory right down to the swivel seats. The only thing better than the sight of your two Mopars gliding down the freeway would've been that DeSoto joining you and making it a threesome. Maybe you've been lucky enough to see it in your show travels?

  • Great video, Thanks for posting.

  • don't think that hat is gonna fly off

  • hope you know dodge and plymouth and chrystler are one company lol ones just a higher up quality then another,. eg a dodge caravan ,vs a town and country , ,you get the picture , dodge has the shittier parts then plymouths or chryslers

  • @clborg88 they are my second choice as far as decades, third would be a gangster car/pimp wagon lmfao

  • Now these cars ARE real highway cruiser. It's just awesome. Thanks for uploading!

  • Don't care who wins I still want the 58'! beautiful car

  • *pouts* i wanna live back then when ud see stuff like that EVERY day....was born in 80's.... not the good decade for cars lol

  • These weren't cars... They were art masterpieces!!

  • how much u wanna bet that black chevy was undercover HP

  • Yup.. I knew I had seen your videos before.. Awesome race!! Poor plymmie :( ... lol jk.. And I agree, it is nice to have highway footage.

  • The Dodge has factory installed air conditioning. Must be a very rare option back then.

  • Awesome cAR

  • i love the plymouth fury always have but its time to see it in a different color

  • CHRISTINE FOREVER

  • That was 2008.

The 59 Had a low compression Chrysler 400 Engine but had a hot

cam and "Freeway Gears" (276) so it didn't have a "Lotta Trouble"

with Christine, alto She runs very nicely with the 318 and dual Fours

    and a hot cam.

The 59 Dodge now "Sports" a built 440 acutally 446 CI, aluminum heads,

Dual Fours, 9.8 to 1 Compression,--- etc etc. It dynoed out at 476 HP and 530 FtLb or Torque, all on 87 Octane gas,

Both cars are fun to drive and fun to ride in.

    Gary, March 2011

  • @1959CustomRoyal I was wondering if the factory a/c on the Dodge still works.

  • @starladear002

I removed the AC, pulleys etc, when I had the new engine installed. Even had the compressor rebuilt, but since the top is almost always down, I never used the AC. I have it stored away in my garage in a safe place.

I do a lot of parades with the car, where I may be going 3 to 5 mph, and while the old 400 engine didn't mind that, I suspects the 440 might put up a fuss, so just didnt want to take a chance, and so far the parades, I've been in, I have not had any heating problems .

  • was this 2006?

  • I love the tailights on the 59 Dodges, and man dont even get me started on how MEAN the freaken front end looks! Looks like its gone eat you! Great choice:)

  • It's not every day you get to race Christine and live to talk about it :)

  • Nice

  • Brilliant video guys. I am sooo envious of the guy driving Christine. Car makers today just dont get it. The fact that u now have to spend a fortune to get a new car with any character. Well done, and if anyone ever says they want to remake the movie and actually film the book, hide your beautiful cars and make em do cgi!!!

  • Chew 'em up and spit 'em out Christine!!!!!!

  • two of my dreamcars! these to (and of course the 59 eldorado) has the most agressive looks on any car from any decade! I envy you both, you are two lucky owners! :)

  • 1958 Plymouth... That was when American car companies were at its PEAK in creation, safety and distinction. Late 50s and early early 1960s styling. Look at the beautiful lines of that Plymouth going down the highway. That's when they made real cars. Right there. Those are real cars. Real iron!! Note the duals, I bet those sure sound great out of that 318.

  • anyways for some reason it took 5 months for me to get an e-mail about a reply.. i still want one.. so it doesn't change anything

  • The Belvedere has "the distinct V in the grill" too, if it had a V-8 engine. The V was not unique to the Fury, it' a callout badge for a car equipped with a V-8 engine.

  • You would have kicked my car's ass any day. I have a 1959 Cadillac sedan...

  • <3 to see nice classics keep em driving =)

  • When America was America

  • christine lookin sexy

  • The car that I won't have ever. How lucky that man is!

  • Christine looks so nice on the highway :)

  • nice...really, really nice!

  • I can't get enough of this video...good action footage other than what we have all seen in Christine a million times! Not knocking the movie whatsoever, just saying nice to see something different!!

  • thats a belvedere not a fury the fury has the distinct V in the grill.. that car a 318 in it at most ... but its still a beautiful car...

  • @SpinMaster08 Yes the car is a Belvedere, as was Christine. This car's name is "Josephine". She indeeds runs a 318 with a hot cam and 2 , four barrels.

    Gary

  • @1959CustomRoyal josephine ... I liked it!

  • @1959CustomRoyal No shitter will come between you and your Josephine. Down with the shitters!

  • @1959CustomRoyal I'm sorry but you're mistaken. Christine was a Fury. In the movie adaption of the novel they sometimes used stunt double Belvedere's which is why some people were mistaken. If you read Stephen king novels (like I do) you'd know that christine was indeed a '58 Fury.

  • @WhiteSilverKusanagi

I never read the book, but 2 of my friends that have these cars, including the car you see if the video told me

the car was a belvedere, I will have to ask them if they read the book. Thanks

  • @1959CustomRoyal Yeah, sorry I wasn't trying to insult you or them. It's still a nice car, just not "christine". :)

  • @1959CustomRoyal Yeah Christine was Fury with a 318 wich never made sense to me as all the researcxh shows that the 58 Fury's had a 35 cid fuelie v8 in them, and before you tell me thats a chevy motor remember that I am and will always be MOPAR or no car and I am just as confused about that size of that one

  • @1959CustomRoyal Christine Was a Fury

  • @1959CustomRoyal Christine was a Fury

  • @digmynewsocks I want to leave the comment "in the sack" - but I won't. :)

  • @SpinMaster08 actually you could get a 350ci commando engine in the belvedere or the fury, and being that it was a "Christine" clone its hard to say which car was used to actually make it there was like three models that works for it ... a savoy, the fury and the belvedere I believe.

  • @SpinMaster08 but the beleverde wasnt RED just the Fury !

  • @SpinMaster08 your wrong, it was a 318 V-8 engine! it had the V on the grill

  • @SpinMaster08 '58 Fury was also available with a 350 CID version of the "B" series wedge V8 (related to 361 and 383 CID "B" V8s). With dual quads, the 350 CID was rated at 305 HP (compared to 290 HP for the dual quad/hot cam 318 V8).

  • jade, I have a 58 and had a bad transmission leak. Replaced all the seals and it still leaked. It was leaking where the shifter cable enters the tranny. There's an O ring on that cable that dries out and leaks. Replaced that and it doesn't leak a drop. Hope this tip helps.

  • One of my favorite videos on you tube! Wish I could see more footage. I just got a '58 Belvedere in Canyon Gold with an Ice burg white top. I am the new owner of the Belvedere that was once owned by Mike Sutherland. I saw both of your names on The forward look site. My user name is Plymouth Twins. My twin brother and I own it together. Are you a California native? I live in Los Angeles (Los Feliz). Can't wait to drive it, I have a bad transmission leak.

  • @jadeandblackkittys

Yes, I live in the LA area. We will be at the Spring Fling in Van Nuys CA, in a couple of weeks. The fellow that ownes Christine is more than likely bringing a 300 C convertible (1957).

    Hope to see you there!!!

    Gary

  • @1959CustomRoyal I have a 58 and the transmission leaked where the shifter cable enters the transmission housing. It has a rubber "O" ring on it that disintegrates over time and fluid leaks out of the shifter cable . Replace the 'O" ring and you'll be good to go !

  • There is no way, no freaking way ANY modern car will ever last as long as these classics have. Impossible.

  • Great to see the antics!

To you guys complaining about new cars.

Foreign competition in the free market made the American automakers improve their cars. That's good, right?

Re styling, the auto industry shuns old designs just because they look "old". Like it or not, they're not going to change soon. If they did, people would whine about the MPG's- 50's cars aren't aerodynamic- and safety -I love my F100's steel dash, but it could kill me.

If you want to drive an old car, buy one! I did.

  • Nothing like good ole' American steel barreling down the freeway at 70 mph! Oh baby!

  • To the owners of both of these cars: It is GREAT to see these machines out on the highway ~ thank you! Yes, it is nice to look at them close up at a show, but to see them in action on the interstate is mezmorizing and a special treat for fellow motorists. Drivers in their hybrid-techo-buckets are thinking twice about what they are in when they see these cars.

  • but to do that the goverment needs to get their ass in gear.

step 1: stop bringing in toyotas nissans etc.

step 2: stop fighting these pain in the ass wars that milk every bodys money dry.

step 3: fuck the plastic make metal cars theres plenty of scrap laying around. step 4: lower gas prices. step 5: restore the US to its former glory like in the 50s then make the old car designs junk the new cars.

  • I'll bet you drive to work in a Corolla, Honey lose the Drama it looks foolish.

  • @327caprice what do you drive some fucking ghetto car with retarded 30 inch rims, and blast the bass like a dick these cars are worth more then every thing you got in todays car shows so blow it out your ass :) .

  • 226dino Your hostile and uneducated way of responding with trash talk and profanity to a fellow You-Tuber has exibited classic Bipolar agression and proven my point exactly, you made a fool of yourself Maybe you should take a time out and play with your Spider Man action figures. And while your at it try to expand your vocabulary.....or better yet , Get one! Ha Ha Ha ! Caprice

  • @327caprice i have a vast vocabulary but talking to some one who is below my i q level is beyond me so i use "small words" that you understand :) and yes you get a medal for figuring out i am not a people person and you started the shit first so blow it out your ass x2 :)

  • 226dino Thanks for the medal...and your kind words. Caprice

  • @226dino

    damn straight!

fuck the chinks you see my reasoning man

i i think i love you! no kidding oh yeah step 6. get rid of gays

dont beat up on europe though they upheld there end of the deal with us there alright by me! but japan and china nope did we forget we kinda needed to drop 2 atom bombs to stop them? you think there not trying to avenge that? 1. make em buy our cars, make em buy cheap products and ruin there economy 2. invasion!!!

im not going to let that happen!!

  • @gunny556fly Yes i'm sure the reason behind their products being cheap has nothing to do with cheap workforce or economical competitiveness, has to be that they are planning an invasion.

We better buy them shotguns durr

  • @226dino

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    THIS

They clearly don't make cars like they used to. I'm in my early twenties so I wasn't able to experience when cars were like this, made with quality, heavier metal, etc. I mean honestly, if you put that car next to some generic honda made today, there's no contest.

  • @tastybrownies Hmm you may want to inject some reality there, those who've lived with these sorts of cars can tell you some failing points. Tendencies to rust badly due to lack of galvanised metal, low power outputs given engine size, vague steering, poor brakes, handling issues due to soft spring rates, heavy weights, narrow tyres, excessive roll, poor occupant survival rates in accidents.

Don't get me wrong I love these cars, but to drive a 50's car regularily is another matter entirely.

  • @226dino Didn't these Plymouths have a propensity of rusting out?

  • they should start making these again if every one would stop buying the plastic piece of shit they sell today and boy cott the new cars maybe we can get the old 70s 60s and 50s cars backs.

  • i wish, the best we can hope for is stylings similar. ya i totally agree. new cars are ugly little pieces of shit. even if new cars were old nobody would restore em, wouldnt be worth it.

  • Comment removed

  • @226dino That's not going to be easy, remember the gas crisis of the early to mid-70's, cars in very long lines at the gas pump; nowadays people want not only power, but comfort and more than 30 miles to the gallon. If you have a chance, go to your nearest library and pick up a copy of "Exporting America: Why corporate greedis shipping American jobs overseas" by Lou Dobbs.

  • @226dino they could make the same bodystyle and everything using fiberglass/plastic ect ect I would be happy

  • @226dino that would make em worth nothing

  • love the shot of 0:30!!

  • theres a christine clone from where im from i seen it at a car show but no camera :(

  • now, theres something you dont see every day

  • now you watch this!!!!!.....*foot to floor*

    CHICKENSH******TTTT ! LOL

this poor car will never hear the end of that movie

  • I like to see her at speed

  • I Love It-great video!!!!!

  • Gorgeous Christine example and it's great to see her out on the open road. She looks pampered and appreciated... :-)

  • Cuntingham!!!

  • Is that Cunningham?

  • Christine!

  • wolderfullllllll

  • come on baby beat those shitteres christine (jk about the shitter part)

  • cool rolling video.....nice to see her underway on the open road

  • Wow, the '58 Fury looks just as awesome in reality as it did in the film

  • That is awesome! Cuntingham is that you? Your not mad are ya

  • DAMN,..a 58 fury still is (and always will be) the most awsome car EVER

  • Go on Christine beat them shitters

    (Joke Joke)

    Nice vid

  • I don't get it, who won the race?

  • fellas.... thats all kinds of cool :)

  • is that a fury or a belvedere?

  • The car is a belvedere, as was Christine.

318 , special cam and 2 four barrels.

    Gary

  • the fury had gold tail-fins & gold highlights that were on every thing that was chrome in that video. John Carpenter couldn't find a 4-door plymouth fury & the fury only came in one color. so they grabbed a Belvedere & took of the letters so know one knew, except a Mopar car buff

  • first off the Fury was never made as a 4 door an her grille was chrome as her inserts an trim. She camin Beige white. the 57 belvedere an 58 fury are nearly identicle. an also it says in the book Christine was a custom order Fire engine red and white with interior to match

  • I wish I have that car... :)

  • Which car? the Plymouth or the Dodge?

    Gary

  • BOTH OF THEM!! hahaha :P

But I've always wanted to own the plymouth though...

  • I'd whatch out,I don't think she likes getting beat >:)

  • Probably the only thing "Meaner Looking" than a 58 Plymouth is a 59 Dodge?

    Thanks for the comment!

    Gary

  • definatly!

  • Ever look at the front end of a '59 Buick? Now that's a scary looking car!!

  • Yeah it is, but overall the Plymouth is a much better looking car.

We wouldn´t read a book or watch a movie where you go: ´sure, run that weird looking monster over`.

    The Plymouth is so beautiful.....

  • What was with American car makers, and styling such sinister evil looking machines in the 50s?

  • LOL my Royal could PWN the Christine from the movies (my car was named christine before the movie came out so piss off we didn't steal the name)

  • You have been invited to.

    Horsepower Profiles. Com

  • Get him, Christine!!

  • very nice.. :)
