As a college student a while ago I studied a simple problem in a philosophy class:

I never forgot it. Put a bacterial culture in a jar with limited resources and seal it.

Initially there is unlimited growth. Then the resources run out.

Eventually there are only a few Bacteria left feeding from the waste of the other dead ones. Then they all die.

Our planet is a sealed finite environment.. Sustainability is the new thinking.  Can we prevent over-population and destruction?
