People often make fun of things they don't understand or can not do. Boys scouts is an amazing wholesome organization and by the way we accept all religions. I never asked my scouts what they believed in. I just asked them to believe and remember to put that belief into play. No real person ridicules scouts...not anyone who could endure the real world with real jobs. Make a foundation and build from it.

Sorry but that is false, the BSA has a declaration of religious principle which requires a person to have a belief in a higher being of some sort, it does not require a person to be catholic or protestant, in fact the largest chunk of units is LDS or Latter Day Saint Units aka Mormons.

Yeah Boy Scouts are so fake. I was in it for 3 years and go to life and just stopped. I wasn't going to get eagle so I would be one step higher then everybody else in society, its all bullshit. They won't even let gay, regular small town stereotypical people into troops. Some don't even allow black people into them. Its all bullshit, they disrespect everyone who isn't them. And they destroyed a camp for kids in rehab trying to get off drugs. I should know this becuase I was there.

We did Camping, Climbing, Caving, Mountain biking. It was great.

I tell you one thing, the Scouts are cool and all but what do you do. If you want to have some real fun how about join Civil Air Patrol. That will make you think twice. You get killer amounts of community service and get to do all kinds of fun stuff during the summer like encampment, national activities, and FTX. My squadron is going to Washington D.C. for a week in June but were not just going to have fun. Were going to do PT and community service and a bunch of other things. CAP RULES!!

Just came from Intercamp 2007 in Gundershoffen France. It was great watching youth from different countries interact together. I even enjoyed talking to different Scout Masters from other countries and sharing the way we in the US do things compared to how they do things. It was great.

I also needed to say, that to everyone who is not in scouting, this vid shows all the fun stuff, but 50% or boy scouts is pure bullshit. the merit badges take many hours, and there is a lot of writing. Meetings every weekk from 7:30 to 9 pm.(my troop anyway). on campouts, there is a lot of meaningless bullshit that takes a long time and is boring as hell, but the outings are truly wonderful, so it ALMOST makes it worthwhile.

your merit badge books are probably different too. The environmental science merit badge takes a minimum of 15 hours.

The meeting is only as boring as effort you are willing to give to either plan it yourselfs or give suggestions to your leaders. Remember in scouting the youth are in charge and without the youth making decisions then scouting does not exist. My motto to follow about this subject is "boy/girl runnned, adult directed" yes this may not work out totally for younger sections but for most sections it works. Even younger sections you have a say in what you are going to be doing at activities and meets

A merit badge is a small circular badge about 2.5 centimeters in diameter. A scout receives one after they have completed all of the set requirments for that badge. Most merit badges focus on a certain area of learning such as aviation, swimming, business, etc.

you need a certain number of merit badges to earn star, life, and Eagle (the ranks in the Boy Scouts of America). Are totems like ranks?

No not at all, first you have to do some kind of test like survive for two days in a forest on your own. Then you get your totem: that's the name of an animal that matches with you, your character. Then you get an adjective like Happy or Enjoying. So everyone gets a name that matches with their character it's really nice:)
