  • Excellent.

  • I just adore the pipe organ

  • WOW!! Loved it!

  • sounds beautiful !!!

  • THIS REMINds me of christmas

  • the crossover is surreal - seamless - could it be animatronic ? seriously, fine musicianship. thank you Mr. Hohman

  • ...flying fingers and footys - it's phantastic to see and to hear! (=

  • Bravo!

  • WOW!! A real-life Davy Jones! Minus the tentacles hahaha

  • This is a rather embarassing admission to make but the simple fact of the matter is - you play the organ better with your feet than I do with my hands.

  • Not to feel bad, I feel the same way! This guy is an incredible talent! I want to download this recording to my MP3 player! Bravo!

  • Thjs is class! On a organ I never bevore heard the Nußknacker-Suite.

  • wonderful! magnificient!! excellent!!

  • Enchanting music, a fine performance and gorgeous acoustics! Mr, Hohman masterfully captures the essential magic of the piece. A wonderfully imaginative video.

  • Well said!

  • Brilliant!!! Wonderful mate! Loved it!!!

  • Only if people enjoyed their jobs as much as Mr. Hohman enjoys playing the organ - it would make the world a better place to be. :-) Thanks for posting!

  • It`s great but when this concert was recorded?

  • December 15, 1997

  • Definetley wonderful, Mr Hohman

  • JUST ONE WORD

    EXCELLENT!

  • It looks like he enjoys playing this piece :)

I think that is important ;) and it does something to the quality of the music .

  • to MathematicalOrchid

the pedals are the same as the keyboard one uve mastered the keyboard uve mastered the pedal pretty well

  • Exeptional!!

  • Nice sound.

    Great organ and organist.

    Mr. Hohmans performance is 10/10

    Thanks for the post.

  • Great sound.

I love how Mr. Hohman moves his feet. Good Job.

  • He quedado sin palabras!! Buena obra, exelente compositor excelente ejecutor exelente arreglo exelente esenerio, todo perfecto.... entendiendo que el organo es el instrumeto mas dificil de manejar, realmente sin palabras!!!

  • Oh... my... god! O_O

That is some really serious footwork, right there. Just... wow. I can't even figure out how to play the peddles without falling off the stall... check this guy out!

Also... the way he switches from one hand to the other half way through a chromatic scale to avoid crossing his arms over. Amazing!!

  • great oO

    5/5

  • WOW!

You have good reason to bare that cheeky grin

  • I like Mr. Homan's performance.

The sound is very nice. I also like the way he moves his hands, and feet.

  • On 1:28 various switches have changed instantly, which radically changed the instrument's tone. But both of his hands are clearly visible, and he didn't touch anything. How did he do that? He pressed some switch with his leg, or someone else did it on the far right, not visible on the video? (the cameras are avoiding this section, probably because there are at least two cameras standing there)

  • Thanks for writing. The piece was played using 3 general pistons, or "generals." These are engaged with thumb pistons (round white buttons between keyboards) and with toestuds (controls above the pedal area which duplicate the function of some manual thumb pistons). At 1:28 a foot piston was activated, causing the change instantly and "on cue." - FH

  • Excellent footwork!

A pity that the triplets don't always come over with an electric action.

    very good arrangement, Frederick.

  • Good job...

I liked Mr. Hohman's performance and footwork.

  • great job!

  • Excellent! Bravo!

  • Vos sin ningún lugar a dudas debés de ser el famosísimo Gordo Valor.

Sos un amor. Te juro que si estába ahí te daba un beso en la cabeza de la chota.

  • A M A Z I N G!

  • pedals are ridic man

  • amazing footwork!

  • YAY, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, ESPEACILLY THIS ONEEE :D... one star

  • Cool

  • simply AMAZING!!!!!

  • thats enormous amazing, how he is doing that on the pedals, incredible ....

    TOTALLY AWESOME

  • that was really good organ playing and i like the face at 0:36 lol

  • Hohman is a very good organist. But if you want to see fast feet. Go check Jean Guillou playing BWV 532. It's amazing!!!

  • perfecto

  • This is probably the best performance or this piece on the organ I have ever heard.

  • your bettr thaqn me at organ i cant go that fast with my foot

  • wowwowwowwow, Watch his feet

  • This is very good FH and thanks for sharing this with us! I love the Nutcracker and didn't knew one could play it on the pipe organ! Saved to favs :D

  • This is absolutely amazing! Fantastic, congratulations!

  • wonderfull!! congratulations!!

  • wow. 3 rows of keys plus foot pedals. i would never be able to play this. bravo for mastering it.

  • Excellent footwork.

  • WOW.. switches hands at 1:29 I was wondering if he was gonne be able to play that part with everything else going on. Awesome!

  • i love the contrasts between the two parts of this piece

  • FantastiC!!!!!!!!Amazin!!!!

  • This look's like the difficult instrument to play ever.

  • In fact it's not that hard - there are instruments which are much harder to master.

It's the piece played here that's for the very advanced only... ±)

  • Wow! Fantastic! I really enjoyed this. Thank you. I was an OK guitar and piano player as a kid. I discovered my love of the organ about 5 years ago, and I like to look at it as if I'm working with a living being. I enjoy watching real musicians playing the organ, as I hope to one day be able to come close to inspiring people as you do. I'll keep working on it. Thank you.

  • lol, as i was on the elementary school, we played this on the christmas day (but not on a organ), and a day later there was a film in the TV, there played the same song: nutcracker

;) (sorry for my bad english)

  • his expressions look like he is the whole time try not to laugh, its funny.

  • Brilliant.

  • His expressions are funny :)

    Thanks! Fun music :)

  • Wow, you are a fine musician!

  • im 13 years old and i would love to play the organ when im a bit older, and love the video.

  • Wow, this is fantastic! Five stars, added as favorite, and hopefully obtaining the chance to come see you in concert!!

  • Excellent! Where do you live, Mr. FH? Are you teaching in some institute or conservatory?

  • Thanks for writing. I live in Indiana USA. Although I have all earned credentials from the Eastman School - Performer's Certificate, MM, DMA, etc. - I have yet to become affiliated as a full time teacher in an institution of higher learning. You can say I'm just waiting for the right offer, which I realize - at this rate - may occur posthumously! My teaching is limited to rare private coaching, occasional masterclasses, and teaching by adjudication at competitions. Best wishes. - FH

  • Incredible playing. So many people play the organ badly, you however are not one of them.

  • Wunderbares Stück, wunderbar gespielt. Great Job, Fred!

  • definitely one of worlds best organists in today's modern era. bravo mr hohman

  • very exquisite hands. how many times did you make a mistake when first playing this song?

  • It takes daily practice for years gets rid of mistakes, but then the "music" can happen. My hands are considered quite small compared to most organists. While small hands make big reaches more difficult, short fingers are better for scales, because one is less likely to trip over ones fingers; also, smaller fingers allow for a more controlled keyboard articulation. - FH

  • awesome

  • 普段見ることのできない足のペダルの映像も

    見ることができて見ていて楽しかったです^^

  • Wow, Mr. Hohman has a lot of control and technique. He makes it look easy, but it's not!

  • Oh my God! Those chromatic scales are amazing! Kick ass indeed!

  • Thanks for writing. Actually, the scales in the last part of the piece are fast, but they are not really chromatic, just the slightly the less taxing diatonic scales. Nevertheless, there are some days when diatonic scales do seem like chromatic scales. - FH

  • two words.. kick ass

  • Excellent! The Nutcracker Suite! ["March from Nutcracker"] by Tchaikovsky!

  • One of the finest transcriptions I've ever heard. I really sounds like the originial piece for orchestra!

  • Doesn't it though? I would die to hear this live.

    Justin

  • This is such a great video. I laugh every time i see Mr. Hohman's facial expressions. He is obviously a very talented organist

  • omg... im speechless... u delivered it in such a beautiful way... emotion, technique, speed n precision... wow... n i tot the pieces i gt fr my piano teacher was hard...ur a real inspiration!!! ^^

  • Pedals are a unique aspect of organ-playing...and wow...this guy can move his feet ^^

  • o.o he is good at playing thiso.o (he's highly trained!!!!!!!!!!)

  • that was awesome

  • Brilliant. If I could only play half as well as that...

    Justin

  • This is a great use of You Tube to share this music and this performer. Unlike a lot of the stuff that is on You Tube.

  • I only have one word... WOW...

    Justin

  • Ok. He's good. Puts me to shame!

  • i have always been a fan of organs and this is a prime example of not only a beautiful organ, but an exquisite player. If I could only find some good organ music on iTunes...

  • amazing

  • Awesome! As if two hands playing completely different note patterns aren't enough, the FEET are used also! Wish I had some sort of key instrument in my permanent possession so I could learn the art! =)

  • unbelievable

  • unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    i love it!

  • By the way, nice to see an organist smiling when he plays! You obviously enjoyed playing this, as we did listening to it - delightful!

    M.O.

  • Ah, so nice to hear flawless playing! I am a fan!

  • This is beautiful. It is difficult to tell where the instrument ends, and building begins. That is what i love about pipe organs

  • amazing

  • Simply superb! This arrangement (along with the fine rendition) puts two fingers firmly up to all those purists who snub organ transcriptions of orchestral works (and there are a few of them). Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!!!

  • Thanks for this comment of cultural insight. It is not my intent to irritate purists, in fact, I have oft considered myself to be one. As for fingers, I'm glad to let others raise and point. I find that I need all ten of mine for playing! Cheers and thanks! - Fred H

  • God I used to play the Baritone until I was in college. Playing one line of music is hard enough but playing multiple lines is just inconceivable to me. My left hand would follow my right and my feet would follow whatever my hands were doing...I would just turn into a big mess if I tried playing a piano much less an organ!!

  • What a great video! His pedaling in this video is really, really good. I love his facial expressions while he is playing too.

  • Thanks for your good words. I checked your YouTube page, and you'll be happy to know that I'm a Dean Martin fan, too! - Fred H

  • I love everything about this video! The pedling is definitely superb! And I love this adaptation in general! Wonderful pipe organ, and the console has a lot of... character. Job well done!

Also, I believe you have played the organ at Saint Stephen's Pro-Cathedral in Wilkes-Barre? I might be wrong about that... It's an incredible instrument, and Mark is indeed a fine organist!

    All the Best,

    - - - Cody.

  • Wonderful. The arangement is so amazing! How cool!

  • He makes the pedaling look so easy.

  • The foot work in this song is amazing.

  • Can I have this partiture??? I LOVE IT!!!

  • Wonderful video showing one who has mastered a very difficult instrument. The pipe organ is the king of instruments. Mastering it requires many many hours of study and practice. I did notice that where ever this mighty instrument is located, they have the proper acoustics. I have seen videos where the echo overpowers the whole thing and the voices of the organ become messy and mixed up. This player is excellent and I say to him bravo!

  • its very nice and beautiful. he is a very good organist

  • Look at his feet and his hands go! It's like watching Elvin Jones do poly-Rhythms by himself on his drumkit.

This guy is obviously really, really in tune with what he's doing. I don't know if I could ever attain that kind of focus.

  • he's enjoying this piece, look at his boyish smile, it's like a kid with a new toy! lol

  • did you see his feet? :O

  • :o)

  • Holy smoke! This guy is really, really good. I'm impressed. Wow.

  • Is it possible to have a copy of this transcription?

  • Yes. The score is published by Wayne Leupold Editions, Inc. You may search for this company on the internet. Located in Colfax, North Carolina. Or order it through Brodt Music Co in Charlotte, North Carolina 800-438-4129.

  • crazy playing, and a really beautiful sounding organ.

  • Holy Mackeral! I am truly impressed! That man has a wonderful God-given talent....& it had to takes YEARS of practice to be this good at playing this song on a pipe organ! I'm trying to learn how to play an organ like this at my church, NO WAY I'll ever be as good as this gentleman is!!

  • Very beautiful.

  • Nice footwork.

  • really love it 10/10 stars

  • WOOOOHOOOOOO...just wonderful!

  • That was amazing! And I love how much fun he's having while playing it! You can see the sparkle in his eyes.

    Love it.

  • this man is god, i don't understand why the video is only 4/5 stars, who are the idiots who didnt give 5stars to this?

  • Unglaublich fantastische und lebendige Orgel-Interpretation.

Ein herrlicher Genuß, vielen Dank dafür !

  • for those who cant understand deutsche, breakdancer said it was unbelievably fantastic, and lively.

  • Ist unglaublich! kannst du klavier?

  • Ja spiele ich Klavier auch aber ich gebe nicht Klavierkonzerte. dennoch. - Fred H.

  • YIKES! That hand-crossing business at 1:42 is INSANE!!!

  • I enjoyed that so much

  • GREAT! Master organ player he is.

  • I Love it !!

  • Outstanding!!

  • beautiful :D 5 stars

  • Amazing!!!Congratulation!!!:)

  • One word says it all......Perfect!

  • Simply Amazing!

  • Stunning pedal work, Im impressed

  • Wunderschöner Klang und genial gespielt.

    Hoffe auf weitere Videos.

  • Perfect

  • I have a question for Fred or anybody else listening. Is this in stereo? I thought I had stereo here on youTube but lately everything is mono. By the way Fred, great job! I have your first CD of the Nutcracker.

  • Super technique! I enjoyed watching you play even more than listening to the music, which I certainly enjoyed.

  • Great, I love the console shots and the music

  • Great playing of a super transcription on a rare and magnificent Murray Harris organ restored by Manuel Rosales with some E. M. Skinner additions retained, and fine video and sound quality. Thanks!

  • Fantastic!

  • UNBELIEVABLE skill. wow.

  • Fantastic in every sense of the word!
