The Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee (which I've driven thru & which are breathtaking): an odd setting for Swedish-born Ms Bergman and Mexican-born Mr Quinn. Two powerful actors...and Frittz Weaver is a gifted veteran of stage, screen & TV too. THANK YOU very much for posting these powerful scenes! :)
Amazing how you can get up in the emotion of their acting -- without the explicit sex and foul language that so many other films these days resort to.
absolutely agree with you on this! also, to make a scene like this you need REAL actors and it seems to me that there aren't many out there nowadays :S
anyway, just wanted to say that i've just bought the movie on VHS, can't wait for it to arrive :)
Oh gracious, how that's so true. The barn scene is much more alluring, romantic and emotional than anything in new Hollywood. I swear, I almost couldn't stand all the longing and outpouring of emotion from them, especially Mrs. Bergman, because I was so wrapped up in their characters. Mrs. Bergamn knows how to own every emotion in one instant. Damn.
I love this scene -- it was so passionate! Anthony Quinn & Ingrid Bergman were such a great on-screen pairing ... and I really felt for Ingrid's character in this movie -- she met her soulmate and got to connect with him at last, feel true love, but still showed the emotional strength to sacrifice him and leave so that her daughter could have a career. Great angst in this movie!
