If the USA hadn't supplied the Russians with 50,000 trucks, 29,000 aircraft and TONS of weapons and ammunition at the beginning of Operation Barbarossa the Krauts would have beaten the Russians. The US even supplied them with uniforms, boots and cigarettes. This gave the Russians enough time to move their factories behind the Caucasus Mountains and out of reach of German bombers. By the end of the war these factories were spewing out tanks and other equipment at a prodigious rate.

There was one genuine German airplane in this movie. A Buecker 181 "best mann" Buecker is boo ker. they also made some fine aerobatic planes when the war ended. The Jungman and the Jungmeister.

ENGLAND is all about this tune, no french cowards ever escaped, that film was based on true events in 1944 brittish and american air force prisoners got the best of hitler and the german war machine. USA and England forever. we dont loose.

@djsneakroscoe08 djs. I have news for you. No English or Americans escaped either. The only people who escaped were 2 Norwegians and 1 Dutchman. The film "the Great Escape" was of course not factual.

@EasyCompanyAirborne Yes, but they were making a movie for the American market and they wanted to sell plenty of tickets.  Thus the Americans in the movie. Most movies are driven by economics.

@SpeedyNeutrino43 Correct. Interestingly enough, no Americans were shot, but there was a Frenchman executed in reality. The myths about Amerian and English bravery, and Italian and French cowardice are just that. All countries had their share of brave men - and cowards also. Not everyone wants to fight in wars.

Great Escape is probably d best movie ever made ... i saw it twice wid mah dad in 2002 .. n once agn in 2003 .. twice again 06 .. once wid mah 2 cuz in 07 .. n now again ystrday .. ! wow .. i love dis movie .. specailly hilts ! lolx
