In 1980 I was playing organ in a New York band called Alcatraz, and our drummer, Mike "Tip" Murphy, was always singing the praises of Johnny's Dance Band. I saw them once and thought they were pretty good, but not as special as Murphy seemed to think. What happened to the band and Ms. Mancini? Moreover, what's Murphy doing these days? My band in Atlanta could use a great drummer. Tip, contact me at galleonmaster@yahoo.com and let's talk!
@ejslurb2007 JDB had to be experienced over and over to really 'get it'. They underwent many member changes over the yaers but finally gave up the ghost. Chris darway an Nan came back as 'the Chet Bolins Band' a little while after (se my vids of that band...very different and maybe ahead of their time). Dates of all this escapes me butit is atime many miss.
@myboyalfredo I know what you mean, Alfredo. There were a lot of New York area bands in the late 70s and early 80s that should have had a better break than they did, including my 1976 pop band Firefly. Which brings up a question about Ms. Mancini's lineage. After I left them, Firefly re-formed in 1978-79 as Nexus, taking more of a jazz/fusion direction under the guidance of multi-instrumentalist and "wunderkind" Gus Mancini. As far as you know, are Nanette and Gus related? Please advise.
yes i was in the club that night,it was one of the beast live shows i ever saw beside general johnson and the chairman of the board, how i miss the dance
@patskysys Check the comments on my Chet Bolins vids...somewhere , someone mentioned what Nan was up to (I can't remember...and I want you to view the vids !)
Yes, I stood in the corner for all those long hours to shoot the videos. My right ear still is ringing! Wait, maybe it is my left ear. There is definently some ringing going on.
Bobby was a kick ass player (probably still is). Thank him for all the great music.
