  • Thanks for explaining encore in such easy terms!

  • DO YOU HAVE A BETTER VIDEO THAT DESCRIBES A BASIC BETTER STEP ON HOW TO MAKE JUST YOUR CHAPTERS ONLY MOVIE 30 SEC OF THE CLIP ON EACH CHAPTER HOW DO U DO THAT THATS THE ONLY THING IM HAVING TROUBLE WITH NOW?

  • when i connect my video to the background it doesnt show up! :( even witha transparent bg or black bg in photoshop, what happened??

  • Oh Man! THANK'S SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!! you're help from heaven... Can help me with the dvd menus tutorial???

  • then how do i burn to disc

  • Man, thank you, very, very VERY much! You helped me a lot! :-)

  • photoshop 7 in 2010 XD

  • @b1gbudda Yup. Good catch. I've updated all my other software through the years, but can't seem to pay the big bucks to get a newer Photoshop. Me bad.

  • @dteubner i can help u with that:P if u want the cs5 master collection just PM me

  • @ConnorAndABass no thats what torrents are for

  • I don't like menus, because they add to the complexities of running a DVD, which most people want to cut the crab and see the video; the only thing it has to have is chapters at specific intervals to allow next and past skip.

  • How do you create the video thumbnail like 01:34 so there is video playing in the box.. Is it done in photoshop or encore?

  • @RingsOfNeptune Encore comes with buttons that can contain movie thumbnails if you installed them. Or you can build them in Photoshop. It's the folder structure and naming the layers correctly that creates the moving thumbnail option. I have the two menus to download for free at my HowNowVideo(dot)com website. The Chapters menu has examples of movie thumbnails. Freeze-frame this video at minute 1:35. You see the folder structure that Encore needs to make a thumbnail video button.

  • @dteubner Thanks a million for the fast answer

  • @Adobeeditsify I'm glad I can help.

  • Great tutorial. ;)

    -Jack

  • After everything is done with encore, how I import the movie footages? I wanna edit my movie with Sony Vegas, so how I export the menu with encore, then add the menu to Vegas, and burn the whole movie with Vegas? Please help!

  • exellent !

  • really cool video .. ,i got everythng except the fact that i can't animate the buttons???? and i don't know why!??? it seems so easy??? i can click on it and everything but the small mp4's for the buttons don't play ...???? i ve got layers and masks built in photoshop but no chance .... if someone can help .... many many thx in advance ,,,, greetz, edi

  • @spookzAT Select your menu in Encore and under the Motion tab make sure "animate buttons" is selected. The buttons will show a preview of the timeline that they point to. Assuming you've linked your button to a timeline containing a video (not directly to a video, but to a timeline) it should work. To see a preview, make sure you render the animation, or burn a test DVD. Good luck...

  • @dteubner oh man, many thx fot that quick answer ... i missed to click that button .... now it is working ..

can i ask a further question:

i' m trying to let the thumb-videos not play from the beginning - does the duration in the properties refer just to the animated background?? how can i adjust that to the thumbs ...lets say to play from timeline 30 seconds each?? i cant't find any duration or starting point for these video-buttons??! greetz, ...

  • @spookzAT The thumbs play from the "poster frame". It is to the right of the first chapter marker of each timeline (at the very beginning of each timeline chapter marker). Zoom in close to see it. Moving that to the right will determine where the thumbnail begins from. As far as duration, that is set to any value in the Properties>>Motion tab for the menu. But if you have a motion background already, I believe that is what determines the length of time your thumbnails will play.

  • hi ... y have a problem with the out-point of a video clip... the out-point can be edit? how? please help!

  • Thank you very much!!!

  • I have tried your tutorial and it works perfect except the video thumbnail in the chapters section. I can see the first frame of the video but the video doesn't play, looks like it just freezes.

Anyone know how to fix it?

  • @lommen1 If you've rendered it when you preview it and it freezes, try burning a DVD test. I've noticed that it often works correctly then. Otherwise, I'm not sure.

  • Really good video, thanks a lot! Good flow.

Is there anyway to download the photoshop files you used?

  • @lommen1 Go to my HowNowVideo(dot)com website. There is a Download link and you can get the Photoshop files there. Also, I sell a $20 DVD set. 5-hours of stuff you won't learn on my YouTube videos. I've sold over 150 of these all over the world. Free shipping, too.

  • You're helpful :D

  • YOU HAVE A CAT!!!

  • how do i resize the video (like the fishes) so it's more of an inset.

  • @ufopiloot Because the fish video was created in Premiere Pro, you'll need to resize it there first, then export it. But you'll need to also include that portion of the menu that will be seen "under" the scaled video. So import into Premiere Pro any graphic element from Photoshop and place that on video layer one. Then on video layer two, scale your motion video. Then export out of Premier Pro this composite (video-graphic combination). This is the new Encore video. Add buttons in Encore.

  • hi! just wanna ask something. how did u made the video thumbnail on photoshop??

    01:35 what did u use? shape? O.o

  • I really liked your video tutorial!

unfortunately i couldn't figure out what i have done wrong....my buttons that i converted with encore, will only show once the motion background (which is supposed to loop!) is over!?!?!? any ideas where i took the wrong turn?

thanks for the help! and congrats to the video again!!

  • @oceanprofile You can set "loop forever" or give it so many loops. In the Properties menu under Motion, choose Loop Forever. However, if you choose an end action for that menu, it will loop once then do the end action, like begin the clip. Not sure what is going on. Just keep testing it until you figure it out.

  • @dteubner thank you for your help. i have sorted it....but then again i don't know how! :0)

  • You managed to combine so many options of Encore in 10 minutes! Thank you very much!

  • @LeonieTichem You're welcome. I get a kick out of trying to communicate efficiently. If you want more Adobe training, I have a 5-hour DVD set for sale. Only $20 and free shipping worldwide. I've sold almost 150 of these. Check out my HowNowVideo(dot)com site. Later...

  • Thank god someone produced such a helpful video tutorial like this. This will really help with my college documentary project.

  • @DrBob1991 I'm glad you liked it. Learn more in my 5-hour DVD set available at HowNowVideo(dot)com. Until later...

  • Hello. How to remove a white (+) character from menu ??

    Thanks

  • @videolukow If the (+) lives on a layer of your menu, select the layers tab, bottom right area in Encore, select it and delete it. Or launch the menu in Photoshop, select the item in the layers pallet, and delete it.

  • Hello. You, sir, just saved my life. I'm a film student who's currently working on her Reel, and for life of me I couldn't figure out how to get my video for my menu to work right. This was just what I needed. Thank You SO MUCH!!!

  • @SemperSapphire Glad it helped. My 5-hour video teaches more tips and tricks. I've sold 130 of these. Free shipping. Thought you might like it. Learn more at HowNowVideo(dot)com. Thanks again...

  • very nice, i am pro and went to college for photoshop but I had no clue how to use this encore program till i read this, it is actually quite easy, and I should be able to do it after watching this, it make it actually quite easy to understand thanks again.

  • where do you go in the beginning?

  • Thank you for this tutorial ;)

  • @elg0rdit0 Glad you liked it. I have a 5-hour DVD at HowNowVideo(dot)com. Sold over 100 of these world wide. I go into more detail on all this stuff. Thanks again...

  • I'm curious - why do you choose to put each video into a separate timeline rather than putting all three into a single timeline? Is this for the purpose of creating an end action for each of the videos in the Chapters menu, and if so, why not add the videos to a single timeline instead of adding each to their own timeline? When I import all the video clips in my project as separate timelines, each is referred to as chapter 1 instead of assigned the chapters subsequent numbers. Thanks!

  • @SPRCVIDEO You are correct. I separated these three clips for demonstration purpose only. That way I can show what a Play List does. Normally I would do as you suggest and have all three chapters as one long movie clip.

  • It does not let me select my "Play Movie" text in Encore in order to link it to the video. Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks

  • do the movie have to be on mp4?

  • @McRtana No. I just used mp4 in this example. You can use almost any format. Learn much more in my 5-hour DVD set. Check it out at HowNowVideo(dot)com

  • thank you!

  • thanks man :D

  • show us how to make video thumnails. i watched your other video. it doesn't show it. plz?

  • @500timesgravity Freeze-frame the video at minute 1:35. You see the folder structure that Encore needs to make a thumbnail video button. Or just start in Encore if you have the Library items loaded and drag over a pre-built video thumbnail button onto a blank menu. Or, just visit my Download page at HowNowVideo(dot)com and download these exact Photoshop templates. Also I offer a 5-hour training DVD which teaches much more on advanced stuff. Thanks for watching.

  • How do you transfer the file from FInal Cut Pro to Adobe Encore CS3?

  • @sharolfjimenez Try exporting out of Final Cut Pro a Quicktime version of your movie. Then import that into Encore by creating a new project and bringing the file in. If Quicktime doesn't work, try saving out of Final Cut Pro another format. Start with a short test clip to see if it works.

  • Hello,

I have tried to render the current motion menu in the project preview window as you showed in your video, but I can't get it to work. Any idea why is not working? Are there any folders I need to deleted to make it work in Encore? Thank you in advanced.

  • I have a question though - I have just music in the backgrond but no video. Why does it restart everytime I hover over a button? Thanks.

  • @DuskY1991 It will do that when you're testing it in Encore. But it won't do that when you burn your final DVD.

I teach an even more advanced motion menu in my 5-hour DVD training video. Check it out at HowNowVideo(dot)com.

  • @dteubner Ah I see, thanks! How about when going from one menu page to another?

  • Wow, that was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Cool. Thanks so much!

  • Awesome video, but, for the scene selection menu, how would you format the buttons to continue playing the movie instead of returning to the menu after each chapter?

  • @frankyfilms1234 Don't break your movie into chapters, but just one longer movie. Or if you've broken them into chapters, create a Play List and put all the short movies into one Play List. I give a more detailed example on my new 5-hour DVD. Learn more at HowNowVideo(dot)com. I also have more free videos there too.

  • Thanks a lot for this tutorial! I'll be needing it when I have to make a DVD very soon.

  • Great tutorial..but how do i make the buttons?? :S just in encore?

  • @StarationGmbH Encore comes with some sample buttons. Use those. You'll need to install them if they're not there. They came with the program in a folder called "Adobe Encore CS5 Functional Content". Otherwise, you can download the menus I created at HowNowVideo(dot)com on the Download link.

  • @dteubner

Im curently using encore cs3....but i found another solution...just created them in photoshop :D

  • how much for the cat?

  • Very good. I like the way it was put together in that short time.

  • @MultimediaMorph Glad you liked it. I do a more advanced version in my 5-hour DVD tutorial available at HowNowVideo(dot)com. I'm selling lots of these. Free shipping anywhere in the world.

  • great tutorial, thanks a lot.

  • I found it out by myself! :) But how i make chapters ? I have a consert at 1:40 hour.

Thats the hole clip! And i want to make 21 chapters. Can i make that in encore ?

As i make one chapter for evry song.

  • Hi. Thank you very much! But how did u make the buttons in ps ? I didnt make it.

Then you got the button proerties.

  • Thank you - sure helped me a lot!

  • Superb presentation, thanks is this available on a DVD would love to purchase and keep it when i need to look something up

  • @armallya I have a 5-hour DVD which goes over this and much more for sale at my website HowNowVideo(dot)com. I show a different example of motion menu, but it's really good. You could check that out. But I'll leave that video you like up for a while, so you can always review it later.

  • I am trying to make a screen of a static picture of a TV on a wall as a mask over a video for my title menu. I have already made a png picture with the transparency where the TV screen is. I understand how to make the buttons and submenu much thanks to this tutorial and I can import the png with transparency onto the menu but I have no clue how to import a short clip to play behind the picture. Would you give me pointers?

  • @MontananIce I go into some of this on my DVD tutorials. You can build the whole thing in Premiere and just use buttons, in a rudimentary, highlight-only, form in Encore. But I go over this on my 5-hour tutorials. See HowNowVideo(dot)com for ordering info.

  • I can't thank you enough for your tutorials. They are amazingly well done! Easy to follow! Thank you!

  • Hi! Your tutorial is brilliant, and yesterday I made my first motion buttons in photoshop and encore. I have one problem though and I'm hoping you can help. I have rendered my motion buttons, but 5 out of 8 of them won't play smoothly. Frames skip, and it's hard to watch! Rendering doesn't seem to solve this issue. Have you any suggestions please?

  • @Cath198127 Hmmm. That's a tough one. You could try to render out of Premiere the video clips that you created for the motion menus. Perhaps try another setting when you render. Perhaps you used 24p and it's jumpy. Or render out in another format, perhaps avi or windows media or h.264. Not sure what else would cause some of your menus to skip. You'll have to run some tests. Good luck. By the way, at my website HowNowVideo(dot)com I have a new 5-hour tutorial on 2 DVDs. Not seen on YouTube.

  • Hi David

With just simple examples you show the great potential Encore has to offer, great stuff.

    Thanks for teaching!

  • @artoke84 Glad you liked it. I teach something more advanced on my new 5-hour DVD set at HowNowVideo(dot)com. I'm selling lots of these. Check out my website.

    Later...

  • This is one of the best tutorial of encore, well explaination.

Is very diferent to build a main menu in achirtect 3 or 4 in sony vegas.

    Thanks (dteubner)

  • How do create the chapters and put them into your file?

  • One small comment, thanks for the tutorial, looks awesome. I am making a blu ray and whenever I link the Motion Menu to the video background I want... the Menu Background screen goes black. Doesn't matter what movie or format... just goes black, will not preview. When I build the project it transcodes the movie... then crashes. Yours of course you linked and, Voila, it was there... but for me it just goes black.

No one has an answer but... thought I would check here. Thanks.

  • @d7peacemaker Can you burn a Blu-Ray project that is simpler, without a motion menu, and not have it crash? And concerning the black background video, does the video begin with a fade up from black? Perhaps that's the black you're seeing. It's tough to troubleshoot something like this from a far.

On another note, I just produced an advanced 5-hour DVD of training. I hate trying to sell stuff, but I can't do it all on YouTube. Learn more at HowNowVideo(dot)com. Email me again if needed.

  • Is there a way to adjust the volume of your audio tracks within encore? For example I feel my Main menu Audio is a bit loud. Is there a way to turn it down in encore?

  • @scrapironfish I haven't come across that feature. You might need to re-export from Premiere Pro. Not sure.

  • great! thanks!

  • How do you create a video thumbnail layer in photoshop?

  • @melvenorc12 Go to my download section of HowNowVideo(dot)com. You'll see these two menus to download. Look at the video layer in Photoshop. That's the way these are created. Good luck.

  • Thank you for taking the time to make such an informative tutorial. I am expanding from webdesign into audio and video editing and you are helping me do that.

  • @entrepreneur2 You are welcome.

  • nice tutorial

  • Helpful, but how to add multiple projects into a menu? Like for a wedding I would want a ceremony menu item, a pre-wedding menu item, reception, etc...

  • @jbraly I can't troubleshoot this problem. Make sure you save as Widescreen. Do tests with short 5-minute clips before burning long projects. You'll find a solution. Good luck.

  • great.. now its clear to me.. thanks mate.

  • your a good teacher LOL really i learned alot from this

  • Bravo!

    Thanks for this awesome tutorial!

  • Thanks for the help dude. You were right, it was in your video, for some reason I didn't see or hear it the first viewing. Look forward to more of your videos.

  • Good Job dteubner. Hey, how do you loop the video so it plays back to back? Not the menu's just the video. I want the video to play at all times during a presentation and not have to push start. You have a great teaching voice!!

  • @BaCOUGARnKS That's explained in my video. Use either a Play List and add all your timelines to that or set the first clip as "first play" then set the end actions of each clip to the next clip in line. Watch the video again. It should be clear. Good luck.

  • @dteubner Nice vid :) just have one question... lets say i want to make a dvd for a wedding in 1080p for Pal.. doesnt it need to be a specific resolution to fit on the dvd or else it wont work how can do this?

  • @lynchy8888 If you're producing an 1080p, you'll need to burn a blu-ray. If you have a blu-ray burner and wish to work at that high resolution, you could build a menu that is 1080 not 720. However, if you're just burning a standard DVD 1080p will be automatically scaled down to standard definition. Not sure if I answered your question.

  • @dteubner ok but how come when i authored a dvd following along with video copilots tutorial it only fitted half the screen on 3 different tv's

  • Any idea why my "moving background" remains a still image? The sound works...but the movie in the background doesn't.

  • @TheOfficialKGirl If you're previewing the menu in Encore, make sure you render the preview (as I show). If you've burned a DVD and it isn't moving, not sure what's happening.

  • @dteubner Thank you so much! It works now...I some how missed that step before. I need this for a project. You have no idea how much I appreciate your videos!

  • hey dteubner, great video! I've watched it several times and it's helped a lot. Is there a way to make that background video appear in a little preview window instead of the whole frame? I'd like it to be playing on the main menu next to the buttons. I imagine i could do it in After Effects, but I already have my menu made in Photoshop. I just can't get a preview window to work. (not a button though). Hope you can help. Thanks.

  • @Carbonfreeze My guess is that you create the movie in Premiere to look like it should, with the movie scaled properly in advance, all done in Premiere. Then when dropping into Encore, it gives the appearance that you want. I don't know of a way to "float" a movie in Encore, except by making it a button. You could make it a button in Encore and then have it go nowhere. Either trick might do the job. Good luck.

  • Thanks for the "Playlist" tip and the chapter menu tips.

  • Nice Video! I have one question though. Can i choose a specific time for my buttons to apear. I want it to start with a videosegment and in the middle of it i want my buttons to apear while the videosegment continues to run? At the moment i can only make it so that the buttons are in there from start to finish or

i can make em come in after the videosegment is done. I don't want that.

  • @CampCrystalLeif There might be a trick you can use to create that effect. One idea would be to embed the buttons into your video itself, and have them fade in at the right time. Then in Encore, create an invisible button, that is a button which only has an underline or other hightlight to it. It will appear that the buttons fade in and then become active. Not sure if this would work. Another idea is to create a first play timeline, and when it ends, go to the menu. Experiment.

  • nice video.... sounds fishy to me though... lol nice job, very helpful

  • @digitalphunc Yes, there's definitely a red herring in the room.

  • Your Videos helped me so much in using Encore! Although i couldnt find your vid in making menu buttons, video thumbnails and highligh selection on photoshop, so i just paused and copied your action symbols for the layers :)

  • @Zrider87 Glad you liked it. I have two Encore videos. Search dteubner on YouTube.

  • I have problem on Adobe Encore CS4. Im going to burn movie to DVD. Movie file is like about 700mb, Encore shows that when encoded its like 4,9 Gb? And the video file is only 672x280 and its not HD or anything hi res stuff. So whats the matter?

  • very helpful tutorial.. thanks a lot..

  • can i make a scene selection using chapter markers? i want to have the whole video and then have a scene selection menu.

  • @AceZero20 Yes. Any chapter markers can be linked to. Just select the menu button, then drag the selection "whip" to that chapter marker in the timeline.

  • @dteubner thanks a lot. i have one more question. how can i make the buttons highlighted so you know which one you are on when you play it in a dvd player?

  • Hi!! This tutorials are really great, thanks a lot!! I just have one question...

I'm making a dvd menu with chapters. I would like to be able to change chapter with my tv remote control, when I am watching the full movie. How can I do that?

Sorry to bother you, I would usually experiment myself until I had an answer, but I'm super short on time. Once again, thanks! Great tutorials

  • @PaginaLiterariaPorto You can add "chapter markers" anywhere in your timeline. Add as many as you need. Select a timeline in Encore, then move the play head where you want a marker, then hit * on your keyboard. A marker will be added. That's it.

  • Thank you for this tutorial, I haven't made a DVD in over 5years so things have changed quite a bit. I'll be testing this as soon as I get home from work tonight.

  • Great! colossal! I'm delighted with your tutorial!!

  • @catalania Glad you liked it.

  • Great! colossal! I'm delighted with your tutorial!!

  • I can't tell you how much I rely on these two movies to make my menus. I usually go a couple months without having to create a menu, so I'm always right back at your videos to refresh myself. Please don't ever take 'em down! I'd be lost without them.

    Thanks a ton.

  • @LicketyGlitz I'm glad you like them. I won't take them down.

  • How can I activate a video button only when it is selected ?

    thx

  • how can I scale the size of my background video down to fit in only a part of the screen for the menu??

  • @artasia212 Perhaps you can build most of the menu in Premiere. That is, scale your video in Premiere on video layer two. Then on video layer one, place your menu graphic. That way, when you import this movie into Encore, it will have the video scaled and in the right location and the rest of the menu background where it should be. Then all you need to add in Encore is your menu's buttons. Give it a try. That's my best guess.

  • @dteubner OK so I'm adding 3 videos and have a button for each on the menu. Now when I preview 2 of the videos have sound but 1 doesn't seem to?? Any ideas what the problem could be?

  • @artasia212 Make sure you burn a DVD to make completely sure things are not working. I've noticed sometimes in Encore previewing things don't always give accurate results. Other than that, not sure.

  • thank you, men im from peru realy thanks!!!!!!!!!

  • My backgroud video is not working, it's there but not playing. It's avi and very big, does it have to do with that?

  • sorry was working on my project as i was watctching and no ive seen the end i now i had to render lol thanks good clear instructions

  • is their a way to do this without photoshop? like use just a picture or something....

  • @codylewis17 If you have the bonus Encore menus installed then you can build the whole thing in Encore, but you might not be able to paste in unique graphics of your own. Give it a try and see.

  • Thanks man, great tutorial!!!

  • thanks for refreshing my memory david.

  • You are welcome.

  • how do you make the video file in photoshop for the chapters?

  • best man !

  • Thaks for the video!!!! very nice and helpfull!

    Thanks a lot!! See you!

  • ok so i am stuck!

for some reason my video for the background is starting again every time i highlight a button! what am i missing?

  • I know it does that when you preview a DVD in Encore, but I think the problem goes away when you burn one. That's my best guess.

  • Can anyone help please? In my project the main menu, selected scenes or bonuses menus, all the links are somehow linked to the same source.

For example, in the Bonuses menu I have 3 buttons - Photos, Musical Clip and Honeymoon Video. When I link either of them to their respective source (chapter, video or timeline), others are somehow automatically linked to that same source. I am not being able to individually link them to their own sources. What am I doing wrong?

  • Nice Turtorial, nice and quick. :D

  • Wonderful. Simple and easy. Thank you so much. I use to use AE for my menus and it was abit of a challenge but this is so much easier. Thank you.

  • No problem. Request a video if you'd like to see something else.

  • @dteubner I was wondering if there is a way to make moving options?

In this video, in chapers, the selections had the + sign by them. Is there a way to make it something else and if so can we make it into something moving? I have a avi of a car i rendered, it goes around the car and has greenscreen behind it, i would like to use that if possable.

  • It sounds like you want a selection to be something more complex (not just a big, white plus sign). Standard highlights are very rudimentary. Not sure how to do what your asking. Perhaps users of After Effects would know. Sorry.

  • @dteubner Its fine. Im not good at explaining things (why i dont do tutorials haha) but i was asking like, the plus sign you have to be animated. A moving object. Instead of the plus sign, have a car rotating or something like that.

  • Yes, I did understand you. It's a little complicated and I can't really explain it in a little blurb like this. It's way beyond what I've already described. Perhaps later I'll try a tutorial on that in the future.

  • OMG!!!! This is exactly what i was asking for!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! I HIGHLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!!!! XD
