The legal grounds for the health insurance mandate is that the uninsured have a substantial effect on the overall cost of health insurance. But given that the biggest reason for the cost of insurance in this country is because of an explicitly unhealthy population, the claim is simply not on parity with the facts. The sole reason for the mandate is overtly clear: the industry wants to force healthy people to buy a good they can't or won't even use, in order to pay down the costs of others.
I'm so proud to have an elected official of my home state stand up for an individual principle like this. And not just any right of the people but a fundamental part of the checks and balances built in to our government as part of it's original system of protection. Bravo AG McKenna, thanks for doing the right thing and protecting the 10th amendment.
