@emarine I find it hard to believe in real life, a solderer on the front lines in that kind of disaster would be able to make a phone call like that. His commander should have cut the phone lines, the Russians could uses that phone call to find out where they are and where they are going.
In a real life disaster more often then not if your in the middle of it your also in the dark about whats going on outside of your line of sight.
@Monorprise yeah well either way, bases need to have communication resources, and military regulations, war or not, sometimes you have to defend your family, and if that means disobeying orders, so be it, though it is a bit corny and unrealistic to do that through a telecommunications box, but it is still pheasable
shit man that soldier might have a gun and 10 ten weeks of training, But he's scared enough of his ex wife to threaten a man at the pentagon to get his money in his ex wifes pocket. I got some news for you Mr. bureaucrat, even if he doesn't hunt you down his ex will and believe me thats way scarier then a soviet invasion
When the accountant said "...that doesn't change anything...We have rules in this country for a reason" in response to the 'invasion' argument, he makes points out a very important concept that extends beyond just simple bueracracy--That we simply can't bend the laws of the land just because we're at war. If we can skimp on simple rules/procedures simply because we're at war, we set a bad precedent and risk skimping on bigger things, like civil rights, free speech, etc. at wartime.
Well in the military, they have a mentality where if you can't be trusted to do something as little as remembering to keep your uniform buttoned up, then you can't be trusted to doing something big, like remembering to bring your rifle into combat.
Yes I know, but I was answering your question about the M16A2 in 1989,at that time they were already in service for about 10 years, and M16A1 saw action in vietnam too.
"Yeah, hunt me down with a 451-A."
I'm all for bashing bureaucracy, but he owned him there.

Sad part is if scenario like that happened in real life. There would be some pencil neck like that making people jump trough red tape.

@Monorprise could have connected to a satalite transmitter
Gam3rzulu 6 months ago
@Gam3rzulu Yea and if he did that she should have been court-marshaled for giving away their position.
The Russians can track transmissions and the last thing you want them to know is where you are, what your condition is and where your going.

That stuff you say about the military is true.
However, you are conflating a respect for civil liberties and principles with an unduly authoritarian, slavish adherence to rules and regulations.
danielchen87 2 years ago
Good point, but there is a big difference between getting money to a desperate soldier's spouse and taking away your civil liberties.
Being a stickler on rules and bureaucracy doesn't necessarily make you a great civil rights advocate. Rather, the reverse often seems true.

And this is why we should all hate burocrats

1. I wonder what that guy needed the money for.
2. I hope that after the game, that soldier did kill that guy.

myboxdied 2 years ago
We're on rather much the same page, mate.
But i'd qualify "requirement". War is only necessary as long as there are dumbasses out there waging wars of aggression. Pity.

@teencomment Likely Answers:
1) He wanted the money sent to his ex wife for her to use to flee the US.
2) I think he was nuked

No, they were using the M16A2, or at least they should have been. This is like, 1989.
PoQuail 4 years ago 7
Hm i don't think the M16A4 was introduced back then... it was only 1989.
It's a bit like saying that the US military was using M16A2s in Vietnam. =S

I was trying to think if they had A2s back then. Seems like they were still kind of new and replacing A1s when I got in back in 91.

The game is set in 1989, so there going to be mainly the A1s
