It's easy to tell by these comments who is a real musician and who doesn't have a clue. True musicians are always striving for that next level. You can always listen to the CD but to be live with this level of musicianship - ??? wow !!! try to play that bass solo one time ok? Richard was born bad!!! He was awesome in high school!!!
@SouLoveReal man, they've totally ruine it.. the studio version is so funky.. this is a joke. shame on him. Marcus' absence may have something to do with it
The bass player, Richard Patterson, plays on the Miles Ahead DVD - it's a Miles Davis and friends sort of thing. He's got a fantastic tone and groove on that set.
I remember hearing & meeting this guy at a now-defunct? jazz club in Chi-town around '92 or '93. As I remember, Marcus had just played in town ( Cubby Bear Club) prior to me seeing this dude and I remember briefly complimenting him on how great he was (in comparison). This dude was pretty nasty even back then and If my memory serves me right, he was playing a white Jazz bass and he literally bang'in the hell out of it.
Love Lake's groove in this. But aside from that, this recording just doesn't do it for me..

Dreadful. I hate it when artists have to "cabaret" their good
numbers just to rush through because of time constraints.
If they're not going to do it the way it is best known, they should
just skip it. This is awful. Sanborn's studio "Snakes" had East
Bay & Memphis funk and horns and base lines. Youa could
dance to it (get down funky and on the one). This version is
fit merely for a late night talk-comedy-&-variety show. Lame.

Nelson Rangell, who is an incredible jazz sax musician does a very good rendition of "Snakes," and several other Sanborn tunes.

The more i 'meditate' upon it the more i come to realise that there's only ONE SANBORN, THE ONE AND ONLY!!
Also, from what i can hear, this bassist has a very strong personality which IMO makes him different from Marcus.
I think he might be a little wilder?? Just my opinion.
TIGHT TIGHT BAND!! AWESOME!! PIECE OF HEAVEN!!

I know Marcus is a killer musician but he really doesn't show his talents on his albums. This guy is great though.
