@MIvarsson99 I respectfully disagree with both of you. my favorite is the part in between the two... 3:15-3:27 . if you turn it up you can hear the guitar part and it's awesome:)
I just wanted to say that Billy Corgan, the band, and their producer Butch Vig are exceptionally talented and visionary. This music was actually RECORDED before sampling, Auto-Tune, and before everything went to a completely computerized recording process. The fact that the pumpkins recorded and SOLD so many albums should be a testament to their creativity ... unfortunately we are too used to MP3's and ubiquitous crappy commercial music now ... we cannot appreciate REAL ART
@gerrysmomma Where do you get the need to attack, judge, and be such an overall a-hole? Pleasure? Entertainment? Boredom? Desperation? Insecurity? Small-mindedness? Ignorance? Egotism? All of the above?
If you wouldn't mind, I'd just like to know what compels one to waste their time like this so that I may avoid such downfalls myself. Thanks.
You Know, I don't speak for everyone on the planet but we find another video of a child biting his brothers finger infinitely more entertaining than this one. I believe the hit counts will attest to this.
Dam! This takes me back to my 20's the flower of my youth. Great memories. Hanging with the guys and girls for all nite parties and laughs. Here's the you smashing pumpkins!!!!!
Bring me to another world everytime i listen to it.. The lyrics is tatooed in my brain.. After ten years of listening to this, its always feel like the first.. Love ya billy!!
Why, oh why... why is this generation so fucked up? With masses of children listening to Bieber, and Billy's masterpieces left to the 30 somethings... I only hope that children will grow up and listen to this eventually instead of all the pop crap.
@MrBlink41SUM :) Not to say there aren't some great songs these days, but Smashing Pumpkins are so under appreciated. If Billy Corgan would of died back in the 90s he'd be bigger than Nirvana.
@binaryclock01 Nirvana was bigger when they were both around so...I don't see that changing but, yeah, maybe to a small degree, I'm sure it helps some. If neither of them died Nirvana would have remained more relevant than the Smashing Pumpkins, though I probably like TSP more at this point in my life.
@binaryclock01 There hasn't been very good music in the last ... seven? years. It's awful. My brother (14-yrs) has luckily left rap/hip-hop and listens to real music again. And my youngest sister (9) is beginning to, as well. But my second sister (13) just wants to fit in. Her favorite musician used to be Lou Reed... but now all she listens to is the crap. (Bieber!! La Rueorwhatever) She's so, so, so obsessed with how the other girls at school see her. It's not good. :/
@extropian Old hip hop is good, so is old rap. The stuff nowadays? If it wasn't about how much stuff you owned or how many girls/guys you have hanging off of you, it'd be good. But because most of it is, it's not music. Music is, in my mind, emotion in sound. So it has to be about something real or something that matters.
And yeah. I know it's been everywhere. xD I'm not a dolt.
@TheMiilydork Ever heard of Eyedea, genius? His shit was as real as they come, and hip hop is a perfectly valid genre of music when its done right... as is the case for every kind of music. Open your eyes a little
@daddyfatsaxohten You know, I don't think I have (I suck at remembering who performs what a lot of the time though). I'd give 'em a try, but the use of name-calling turned me off. Not every argument should be centered around cutting-down the opposing side.
Btw, done right, yes. But I don't know, explicit lyrics about a blow job simply to brag about getting a blow job just aren't my style. The hip hop that means something or is supposed to be comical is fine.
The building of tension is incredible. Every time the "chorus" comes... "I won't deny the pain. I won't deny the change", it seems more labored, more painful to speak. My insides knot up tighter and tighter each time. Songwriting masterpiece. Mr. Corgan, sir, I salute you.
@gerrysmomma how did i elevate myself? simply stating whats apparent to me...the fact that u hate this band and are acting like a douche proves my point
I CAN NOT STOP LISTENING TO THIS SONG... MABE ITS BECAUSE I JUST GOT MY HEART BROKEN ..... THIS SUCKS... THE SMASHING PUMKINS REALLY HELP ME WEN IM SAD... I LOVE U JESSICA

@jackalope616 i do agree with you i just wish i was able to grow up with friends who didnt listen to lady gaga and alot of these more modern bands. their music isnt bad, its just music i would prefer not to listen to. its just hard to relate to them when they are talking about bands who i dont really like. ps im a boy
all of their songs are truely beautiful and amazing! I wish that bands today were more like this. A lot of people could learn a thing or two from Billy and the other members! :) I will always love you Smashing Pumpkins!!!! Forever!
This gorgeous mix of lyrics and music makes me feel like I'm lieing down in a pool of warm water, while the cold rain falls on my face... Awesome song...
I am 27 years old and I discovered the Smashing Pumpkins when I was 13. I have never been so influenced by any musical group/band in my life like I have been by the Pumpkins. They have been my favorite band for 14 years straight. No other music has such a place in my heart as this unique and rocking band. I have been listening to these songs for 14 years....and I will never get tired of it!
Used to listen to this song about every morning before getting ready for school. Gosh, I miss this band. And I mean the REAL band. Not just Billy and a couple other random dudes.
@ebeatworld Yep, the original will always be the best no matter how many times they fall apart and they pick up the pieces.... Nothing beats their first 3 albums...the next few come close but can't be compared to the brilliance of the first 3....
@guyheavensent Have you heard the new stuff? In my opinion, it's just awful. Wow.
For me, of course Mellon Collie is right up there at the top. But I differ with a lot of people. I think Adore is almost as good as this album. I think it's very underrated.
This is pure songwriting genius. The way the chorus sounds more labored every time it comes through, the gradual increasing (then peaking) intensity... you can almost feel his pain. Feel the change.
Man, that's the story of the entire album. Almost every song is top notch and could work as a single.
This has got to be the best thing that came out during the 90s. A lot of people like to give that credit to OK Computer, and while it's up there, this is just IT.
@skullface89 You're forgetting about Nirvana, R.E.M., Soundgarden, STP, and so many other bands that bitch-slapped life during the 90's. This album is fantastic in every way possible, but so is In Utero and whatnot.
@airwalkcrazy360 It's true, there is always a pile of wonderful stuff to delve in to. I wasn't really making a literal statement, I was just expressing my appreciation for this record.
@skullface89 Too bad, if this is the best of the 90's then this only proves that the 90's sucked really bad! Nothing like trying to rip off the mood from "us and them" and then failing because you had no chops, taste or voice! Not to mention you have no lyrical skill! No wonder Billy is out of work!
@gerrysmomma Actually, they're two totally different kinds of songs. With that attitude though I'm not surprised you didn't listen in-depthly enough to realize that before casting your judgment call.
No need to spread your negativity around here. If this piece of pie's not for you, then just leave it. But don't take a bite just to spit it back on the plate, it's rather rude to the rest of us.
@skullface89 Yes they are different types of songs, one of them really sucks bad (above) and the other has over 5 million hits, an actual melody and structure ! Also, too bad I have been a pro jazz musician for 40 years, that blows that theory asshole!
@gerrysmomma the 90s were the simplest of times for me. so go take your jazz theory someplace else. and one more thing, it's called being unique and not staying in between the lines.
@notmyname6 SIMPLE? Whatever !!! life, science and art are not simple disiplines! Grow up and take a look at what TALENTED people can do when they put actual EFFORT into their work!
@colombo259 ? You make no sense. if one sounds similar to the other, they both will sound similar to the other. I was not trying to imply that Smashing Pumikins stole the melody from the makers of Zelda. I understand that this album came out years before the game did.
@Smileyfacedkiller I don't think I ever implied that. I was simply saying, if one thing precedes another (Galapagos before OoT) then it's more accurate to say that the things that came second resembles the thing that came first.
i wish we could form a big group of all the fans everywhere who want to convince james to come back, i know its probably difficult but i've never seen a video of a million people all at 1 location in an act to get a band back together, its about time we make 1 ; ) and let them all know we want to hear SP again the way it was, james and darcy would have to be real assholes to turn even that down, i dont get how they can all turn there back to easily on the fans, put the shit aside for an album
@EminentKnight im selfish? , what personal problems??? they are all still playing except darcy! james is just being a cunt, i dont care how much he doesn't like corgan, the FANS are why he is famous and it wouldn't hurt him to have gone back and just did 1 more album with billy, the fact he didnt is a slap in the face to us, not only corgan.
im not selfish for asking a bunch of so called pros to go back and do an album. it wouldn't be hard, all james had to do was turn up..
@TheLydianRocks its hard work making music and billy is a control freak i hear. i think i heard a new pumpkins song on the radio today didnt sound as bad as i thought it would
sorry that sounded stupid after i wrote that, i just meant he probably dosnt care either way i dont know why my last comment soudned so harsh probably all the fuck words haha
@MAXAM1968 never liked this song at first, shows how something can grow on you, this album really reminds me of an old flame, so boys and girls thats why you should always keep your women and your music seperate ; )
they can make an album sound like a choir of angels and then turn it into something you cant stand to hear from fear of remembering too much.
the music is enough to say that this is one of the most greatest and mysterious song of SP!! you dont have to make a slide show mate.. this is enough.. plus reminds me of my late cousin who pushed me to play guitar when i was a kid.. i thank you kindly
I saw The Smashing Pumpkins play live at the Manchester Arena in 1996 and can honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt, it's in the top ten of best fucking gigs I've ever witnessed.
After reading these comments I understand how SP fans want their asses rocked off but still think at the same time. I've always respected how Billy understood this about us (me); rock hard but don't disrespect my intellect.
where's the slide show? god!!! i dont want to stare at just one picture!!! harumph!!!...........................one of my top ten favorite pumpkins songs.
I read somewhere that the Smashing Pumpkins have one of the most loyal fan bases. makes total sense as i think so many of us are forever grateful for what they gave us during times when we needed them.
I guess I started thinking this album is less than it was, because its from my teemage years. But actually, compared to the other crap from that time, its actually a quite good work.
Its' awesome reading about how the pumpkins touched all of us - especially when we were going through the teenage/angsty/misunderstood phases of growing up.
Listening to them takes me waaay back. Billy was my first crush when I was 13, and its amazing to remember how much this music meant to me and how integral it was to my adolescence.
Thank you, Smashing Pumpkins, for being there when we needed you!
You know, i remember when i first heard this...and a few months ago i got my Mellon Collie CD...this song sounded like a friend calling to me from the distance...more than another friend...like another side of me, myself. When i play it on my guitar, I'm simply amazed by this song...the dynamics are incredible, and it's one of the most soothing songs ever...simply sublime.
I used to be a major studious nerd/artist/weirdo in high school, and would go on long trips to Forensics meetings to practice my extemporaneous speech. Being all along at age 15, this album got me through many lonely nights and long train rides. I could listen to it from beginning to end, and then once again then next night.
I used to be the same way, listening to this album and Siamese Dream. I used to pull all nighters all the time, even in Middle School. Listening to Smashing Pumpkins put me into perspective, used to calm me down. Even Marilyn Manson's Holy Wood calmed me down. Anything to put my frustrations with society and sadness into something pleasant and/or even beautiful.
Everything about this song is so precious to me. Where's my 1996? It seems it was yesterday...

This gorgeous mix of lyrics and music makes me feel like I'm lieing down in a pool of warm water, while the cold rain falls on my face... Awesome song...
I bought this album for 7 € :D

I am 27 years old and I discovered the Smashing Pumpkins when I was 13. I have never been so influenced by any musical group/band in my life like I have been by the Pumpkins. They have been my favorite band for 14 years straight. No other music has such a place in my heart as this unique and rocking band. I have been listening to these songs for 14 years....and I will never get tired of it!

Used to listen to this song about every morning before getting ready for school. Gosh, I miss this band. And I mean the REAL band. Not just Billy and a couple other random dudes.
ebeatworld 1 year ago
@ebeatworld Yep, the original will always be the best no matter how many times they fall apart and they pick up the pieces.... Nothing beats their first 3 albums...the next few come close but can't be compared to the brilliance of the first 3....
guyheavensent 1 year ago
@guyheavensent Have you heard the new stuff? In my opinion, it's just awful. Wow.
For me, of course Mellon Collie is right up there at the top. But I differ with a lot of people. I think Adore is almost as good as this album. I think it's very underrated.
ebeatworld 1 year ago
This is pure songwriting genius. The way the chorus sounds more labored every time it comes through, the gradual increasing (then peaking) intensity... you can almost feel his pain. Feel the change.

Ahh, beautiful genius song. Thank you Pumpkins.
skullface89 1 year ago
Man, that's the story of the entire album. Almost every song is top notch and could work as a single.
This has got to be the best thing that came out during the 90s. A lot of people like to give that credit to OK Computer, and while it's up there, this is just IT.
skullface89 2 years ago 55
@skullface89 You're forgetting about Nirvana, R.E.M., Soundgarden, STP, and so many other bands that bitch-slapped life during the 90's. This album is fantastic in every way possible, but so is In Utero and whatnot.
airwalkcrazy360 1 year ago 2
@airwalkcrazy360 It's true, there is always a pile of wonderful stuff to delve in to. I wasn't really making a literal statement, I was just expressing my appreciation for this record.

@airwalkcrazy360 too true man.
iamyoyoyodude45 1 year ago
@skullface89 Agree. Ok computer is the shit though but almost every song on this double disc is amazing
Iknowgoodmusic 1 year ago
@skullface89 Too bad, if this is the best of the 90's then this only proves that the 90's sucked really bad! Nothing like trying to rip off the mood from "us and them" and then failing because you had no chops, taste or voice! Not to mention you have no lyrical skill! No wonder Billy is out of work!

@gerrysmomma Actually, they're two totally different kinds of songs. With that attitude though I'm not surprised you didn't listen in-depthly enough to realize that before casting your judgment call.
No need to spread your negativity around here. If this piece of pie's not for you, then just leave it. But don't take a bite just to spit it back on the plate, it's rather rude to the rest of us.
skullface89 11 months ago
@skullface89 Yes they are different types of songs, one of them really sucks bad (above) and the other has over 5 million hits, an actual melody and structure ! Also, too bad I have been a pro jazz musician for 40 years, that blows that theory asshole!
gerrysmomma 11 months ago
@gerrysmomma the 90s were the simplest of times for me. so go take your jazz theory someplace else. and one more thing, it's called being unique and not staying in between the lines.
notmyname6 11 months ago
@notmyname6 SIMPLE? Whatever !!! life, science and art are not simple disiplines! Grow up and take a look at what TALENTED people can do when they put actual EFFORT into their work!

the opening of this sounds very similar to zoras domain music in zelda.
Smileyfacedkiller 2 years ago 27
@Smileyfacedkiller yes jajaja
robertoproal 1 year ago
@Smileyfacedkiller I think you mean that the Zora's Domain music sounds similiar to Galapagos... This came out many years before Ocarina of Time did.
colombo259 1 year ago
@colombo259 ? You make no sense. if one sounds similar to the other, they both will sound similar to the other. I was not trying to imply that Smashing Pumikins stole the melody from the makers of Zelda. I understand that this album came out years before the game did.
Smileyfacedkiller 1 year ago
@Smileyfacedkiller I don't think I ever implied that. I was simply saying, if one thing precedes another (Galapagos before OoT) then it's more accurate to say that the things that came second resembles the thing that came first.
colombo259 1 year ago
@colombo259 I don't see how it's more accurate. If one thing resembles another thing, it doesn't matter which order you form your sentence.
Smileyfacedkiller 1 year ago
@colombo259 Stop talking about Zelda ffs, this is Smashing Pumpkins

i wish we could form a big group of all the fans everywhere who want to convince james to come back, i know its probably difficult but i've never seen a video of a million people all at 1 location in an act to get a band back together, its about time we make 1 ; ) and let them all know we want to hear SP again the way it was, james and darcy would have to be real assholes to turn even that down, i dont get how they can all turn there back to easily on the fans, put the shit aside for an album
TheLydianRocks 2 years ago 3
Maybe they have personal problems that are too important for them to care what a selfish prick like you thinks.
EminentKnight 2 years ago 4
@EminentKnight im selfish? , what personal problems??? they are all still playing except darcy! james is just being a cunt, i dont care how much he doesn't like corgan, the FANS are why he is famous and it wouldn't hurt him to have gone back and just did 1 more album with billy, the fact he didnt is a slap in the face to us, not only corgan.
im not selfish for asking a bunch of so called pros to go back and do an album. it wouldn't be hard, all james had to do was turn up..
put a dress on mate

emilydupuis401 1 year ago
@MAXAM1968 never liked this song at first, shows how something can grow on you, this album really reminds me of an old flame, so boys and girls thats why you should always keep your women and your music seperate ; )
they can make an album sound like a choir of angels and then turn it into something you cant stand to hear from fear of remembering too much.
unless you marry them of course lol
beautiful album!

the music is enough to say that this is one of the most greatest and mysterious song of SP!! you dont have to make a slide show mate.. this is enough.. plus reminds me of my late cousin who pushed me to play guitar when i was a kid.. i thank you kindly

BowieFan88 2 years ago 5
You know, i remember when i first heard this...and a few months ago i got my Mellon Collie CD...this song sounded like a friend calling to me from the distance...more than another friend...like another side of me, myself. When i play it on my guitar, I'm simply amazed by this song...the dynamics are incredible, and it's one of the most soothing songs ever...simply sublime.

No complaints here.
I used to be a major studious nerd/artist/weirdo in high school, and would go on long trips to Forensics meetings to practice my extemporaneous speech. Being all along at age 15, this album got me through many lonely nights and long train rides. I could listen to it from beginning to end, and then once again then next night.
missmissy22556 2 years ago 6
I used to be the same way, listening to this album and Siamese Dream. I used to pull all nighters all the time, even in Middle School. Listening to Smashing Pumpkins put me into perspective, used to calm me down. Even Marilyn Manson's Holy Wood calmed me down. Anything to put my frustrations with society and sadness into something pleasant and/or even beautiful.
