its not truly canon but the games do take place in "universe within a multiverse' where interuniversal travel is possible, also zetta makes a cameo in disgaea DS.

There's no big, underlying plot that makes characters get into every game. It's just that N1 loves cameo appearances as much as we do. That's all there's to it.

You can't kill Baal. That's the point. No matter what, his soul just escapes his dying body and finds a new one (not even Trenia knew how to kill him). You have to destroy his soul to "kill" him, and that will probably never happen in an actual storyline as long as NIS continues to make games. They like cameos between their many games too much and he's almost always the last and strongest boss in all of them (except Phantom Brave; Pringer X was the strongest boss there).
