windspeed isn't really a factor below 70kts (or really below 125kts as the craft is stable at that airspeed)....it's the stability of the direction which is critical....wouldn't fancy a 180 shift 20m from touch down!! but then, just bank her over the vertical left or right and back stick for nose down to execute a sucessful missed approach.. might even be able to wave at the teller girls :)
you know, the more journeys I take with this pilot 'onto' the pad here, the more obvious it becomes that this guy is smooooth.....the cockit atmosphere is ILS calm,.. and comforting...great stuff, thanks !
@helifleiger: with 1.7k of European rotary, I know exactly what you mean!.....a great video of a faultless approach....(he must've had some offshore time)....cheers!...
you can really see that nasty muggy gry cloud down low to earth. y'all are hovering over it. but there is no fallout radiation from japan. not to worry
Technically we did not land - we made a practice approach to a hover and off we went. So there was no need to ask for permission to land because we didn't. At least that was the story at the time :-)
@Helifliegerdotcom Makes sense.... sorta. =) We all know the subsonic harmonics, and pressure vibrations could be -- at the very least -- felt, some 5+ floors down. I mean... it's a 60's era, two-bladed main-rotor, Jetranger! Not exactly "noise considerate"! =) Besides -- if it involves a helicopter, and pissing off "non-rotorhead" people... like Sam Adam's always says "always a good decision!"

What are the maximum wind speeds aloft where you are forbidden to land on a roof top helo pad?
One little mistake/malfunction, and it would he a horrible fall to the ground.
