@shinegrove Of course the lyrics were different because it was a different song (and thus also the tune differs). Peter Schilling wrote his song as a response to 'space oddity', the Bowie song you are reffering to. Peter Schilling is the original artist.

The lead singer is the old singer from a still on going ska punk band Zebrahead (my fav)

Honestly he was better in zebrahead, he was best on the albums MFZB and broadcast to the world

It's not supposed to be a sad song. As I understand it, while Space Oddity was about Major Tom getting lost in space; Major Tom is about the revelation that Major Tom is actually an alien and he's going home to his people. He's calling home aka the mothership or whatever. I can't believe I actually researched this.
