great job, great great tune, that first Children of the Day album had an annointing that just jumped off the record and landed in your heart, amazing...........
God birthed me into a Christian home where I was physically abused and today have recurrent concussions from even simple jarring (have my 7th in 8 months currently) I asked Jesus as my saviour eons ago, trusted him despite the abuse, obeyed God, still a 32 yr old virgin for a marriage I'll never have...
God took what I gave him and flushed it and now keeps ensuring that I am without family or love or health or future. If that's him reaching out by crapping all over my life, he can go to hell.
@kruszer Forgive me if I'm wrong here, but based on what you've said, it's quite hard to believe the home you've described is anything close to a Christian environment. I mean seriously, a parent that physically abuses their child... how dwelleth the love of Christ in them? Instead of blaming God for placing you in your earthly home, shouldn't you be thanking him for giving you an eternal one where there will be no such suffering?
@kruszer The only thing you can give to God is your willingness to serve Him, and that's it. If you're no longer available for HIs service, then you have chosen your own path to destruction. Indeed, this would lead to one mess of a life, quite similar to the one you've currently described - a life "without love."
Every single time i hear these words I start to cry. I am a christian and one of the few at my school. I love God with all my heart but i struggle all the time with sin and alot of the times i give in and i'm at a point where i just dont really know what to do to stop. If God really wants me, why is it so incredibly hard for me to truelly drop everything and come to him? Yeah, i guess its me and i guess its satan but thats not helping me. I need to know the actual "why"...
@mychemicalladdance I have asked myself the same question many times, and the answer is no less paradoxical now than it was when I was your age. The reason it is so hard 2 just give in and come 2 Jesus is because we're afraid we can't really trust Him. The beauty and horror of the gospel is that our heavenly Father has done and will do everything He can 2 save us, but ultimately, He will not force us 2 receive His love. He already loves us, and has saved us. There's no question about that, but..
unless we exercise the faith that He has already given us 2 believe that He is who He says He is, & has done what He says He has done, we won't ultimately benefit from what He has already given. Part of the reason we have a hard time accepting His love & 4giveness, is because that would require us 2 love and 4give those who have wronged us. Another reason is because we 2 often believe the lies that Satan tells about God, such as that if we sin we will not surely die, but live in torment 4ever.
yeah, I cried too...very touchy song. Would you believe that I first heard this song since I was 8 years old and it's been 35 years now and still never forget the lyrics...
I love this song...Thanks so much 4 posting it... I have been thinking about it 4 years... I knew it n the 70's as a k n my church.... I had the name wrong...Thought it was Come to the Water... close enough...found it here on ypu tube... I loved the way it was sung 2....Thanks so much...
@prietaquake It goes by either Come To The Water or For Those Tears I Died. It's a classic by Marsha Stevens and Children of the Day. I heard them sing it live at the Calvary Chapel in Napa. California in the late '70s. I'm pretty sure you can find a video of Marsha singing it with COTD her on YT. Blessings on you.
Thanks, brother, for singing this beautiful Christian song. It touches also me. Earlier today (June 8th), I sang a Finnish version of this song and posted it on YouTube. Have a blessed summer!
I remember this song from my camper days at a Christian camp back in the 80s and 90s. It always made me cry cause my home life was less than loving.
I used to have faith, but while on a lengthy journey to believe that God is that God is good he keeps inflicting me with more and more freak illnesses and accidents. The more I come to him the worse things get - last week my 3rd concussion of the month, this week asbestos poisoning.
I came to the water and he watched me drown and laughed.
Kristine, I'm so sorry all these things have happened to you. You know, I think we are done a disservice when we are told that when we become a believer our life will be easier from that point on. I think we sometimes forget or maybe even don't believe hat there is an enemy called Satan who should get the credit for the evil things that happen to us. Just because God allows Satan and his agents a certain amount of lee way to make our lives miserable...
... doesn't mean that's how He wants it. We need 2 understand how evil sin really is, and that can only happen if God allows us 2 experience at least some of its results. His promise 2 us is that He will not allow us 2 be "tempted" (tried) "above what we are able 2 bear, but will with the temptation also make a way of escape that we may be able to bear it" (1 Cor. 10:13). But God, as a parent would 4 his child, feels our pain intensely when we are hurt. Love cannot always rescue the 1 loved.
@guitmartiman So all those children who suffer debilitating illness to the point of death, and all those whose entire lives are hunger to the point of starvation.... you really want to tell me that God is not allowing them to be tried beyond what they can handle? Are you so sure there is always an escape and a way of bearing any suffering??
@kruszer You're not alone brother, this journey of suffering really sucks! Ask and you will be denied seems to be my lot. If all this was planned, I want to talk to that planner and tell him to get it right next time. Promises are made to be broken, and they indeed are.
@kruszer God's plan of salvation does not promise a life without suffering, but rather a lifetime of hope for an eternity of bliss. For the wages of sin is death. Without our sinful nature, we would still be God's perfect creation without disease, sickness, famine, or death; never separated from God. Christ made our imperfections perfect through his sacrifice for all mankind if only we would put our faith and trust in him. God's greatest blessings are literally, "Out of this world."
@MrDanKeck So the God who was never there for us during our current lifetime is supposed to be trusted to produce a good lifetime for us after we die? Sounds like a pretty big gamble on someone who's never proven himself trustworthy in the now.
@kruszer God is presently everywhere. In fact, I am whole heartedly convinced that He is reaching out to you at this very moment. Everyday, God is there for me. Even the times that I fail to recognize Him, He's still there. God is love. Until you can see Him for what He is, you'll never believe. God convicts us of our sin in order to bring us back to Him, while Satan deceptively uses our sin in an attempt to condemn us. Conviction brings to life, condemnation leads to death (separation from God)
@MrDanKeck (part 2) So it goes like this: God chooses to create humans with an ability to sin and then chooses to pass the blame and punishment onto every descendant to come. Then God chooses an arbitrary punishment and redemption plan and decides that dying as a human ought to do it. Of course the redemption doesn't take effect until after we've suffered like hell in the only lifetime we can truly count on with any degree of certainty.
@kruszer God created us to have our own free will. God doesn't force us to obey Him, it is by our choice that we accept or reject His word. We're all held responsible and accountable for our own decisions with no blame whatsoever to be placed anywhere else. His plan of redemption was meant for all mankind, while the arbitrary punishment was established for Satan and his angels. Anyone who enters everlasting punishment, will go as an intruder. Death is only a separation, either from good or evil.
Praise God ! truly the net should be used for God's glory, and to share the wonderful news of salvation to those who believe in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ; to those who believe that He died on the cross, instead of us, and to give us eternal life, and on the third day, He resurrected. Truly He is Lord and God !He is coming again ! Let us rejoice and be glad !
Thanks for singing this song and for posting it on YouTube. I learned it in Finnish in the late 1980's or early 1990's. It's nice to learn the song in the original English.
My sister and I learned this song in 1982. On Jan 6 2009, out mom was on her lasts days due to Colon Cancer. We sang this song while holding her hand and hugging her. Begging her to let GOD take her away from life's pain and turmoils. As we sang to her with tears and sniffles along the way, she Grasped my hand. I snapped a pic from my cell and will always remember how she let went with god at that very moment. It was truely a BEAUTIFUL moment I will never forget. Thank you for a lovely song. S
This song is one of my earliest memories of youth music sung in my Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, MI. Little did I know that this song was composed by a woman who came out as a lesbian and founded a lesbian ministry. As I grew and came to understand my gift of uniqueness as a Gay Christian man I realized that this song had been given to me long before as an assurance of God's love to me. "Your love loosed my chains and in you I'm free." Love and grace flows from this song. Amen.
That is messed up. Your salvation has to be based on the Word of God since He is the One to save. You can't base your life on a song or a feeling etc. Must obey Acts 2:38. Repent -turn away from sin with His help,be baptized in Jesus name and receive the Holy Ghost. You will be free to live a holy life as you continue in Him and walk in the Spirit. Find you a united pentecostal church. It will help you
this is one of my favorite songs I used to sing to my kids at bedtime now I sing it to the little ones I babysit they go right to sleep it relaxes them the ones I baby sit I'm the only door to god they have right now
This was always my favorite song from my bible camp when i was younger. now im 18 and i stilll love this song. ive been looking for it for forever. thanks :)
I'm sorry to hear about your mom.... I also love this song...it makes me cry almost everytime because just like you I lost a dear friend of mine ...... and they played this song too..... my friend died two years ago and i still am hurting so I know what pain you must be going through...my prayers are with you
Beautiful! as a teen, I listened to this over and over when my Dad passed away in 1974. I've wanted to hear this sung by someone, other than myself, for so long. Thank you for sharing.
Have been trying to think of and looking for this song for a long time. Could not remember but a line or two...Remember it from Bible camp back in the late 60's/early 70's. Thanks so much for sharing. Wonderful rendition!
Sweet nostalgia & PTL with this beautiful worship song. I first heard this at Bible camp in the 70's and it still moves me. Thank you for sharing this.
i hate this song but the same time i like it...its just it makes me feel sad this is the song that we sang on my father's burial..the last song He and my Mom sang together on Sabbath Day :(...we didnt know it was the last time they will be singing together...
"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God."
Your goodness so great, I can't understand. But dear Lord, I know, that all thia was planned. When God took my Sister home, after her battle with Cancer, that is the verse that kept going thru my head during the dark days...Nothing is going to happen that the Lord dosen't already know about....He holds tomorrow in his hands...Thank you awesome song!! God bless you
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."
You are most welcome! Now that you've found mine, no doubt you've found a few others, including Marsha Stevens' (Children of the Day), as well. She, of course, is the one who wrote it. I'm glad you enjoyed my rendition. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you, but I don't think I have ever been tempted to think God hates homosexuals. He hates their sin, but He also hates heterosexual sin. I am aware of Marsha's orientation, but God still loves her, and this is a beautiful song.
I learned this song when I was in 9th grade, and it touched a part of my heart, that to this day, 20+ yrs later, is able to bring a tear to my eyes. "Your goodness os great, I can't understand. But Dear Lord, I know , that all this was planned." My sister is in Glory now, God is sooo good!! Thank you
I never heard this song..But upon hearing it, it touches my heart and soul..can i have a copy of lyrics and chords of this song...please???thanks....kisheylle_1973at yahoo dot com...god bless
Hi, this is with reference to your above posting. Will be thankful if you can send me too, the lyrics and guitar chords of this song to charles.srinarayan at gmail dotcom. Thanx in advance
Beautiful song :) I haven't sung it for a long time, we sang it a lot in a campus ministry i was in. Jesus is so wonderful to be with us in our tears and to set us free. Thanks for sharing your story too, may God continue to give you his peace and comfort. It is such a blessing that we don't need to say a final goodbye to brothers and sisters, that we'll be worshipping Him together one day :)
I know this song very well ´cause I sung it in front of people ones in a church... we have a playback of this song...thank you so much for playing it..I will always love this song..it describes the undeserving love of Christ to us
Wow! that story. I've heard this song. Probably at church or something or just around town. There's a lot of gospel music around considering I live in the folk music capitol. heh. pretty song.
Thank you for the video and music. I liked the message of the song. Do you know that sometimes we go through life with what this song is saying. It is good to know that even if we don't understand so many things that have happenned in our lives, and that are happening, and that perhaps will happen in the future, even if we don't understand, we still trust Him. Because in the long run we will see in this earth and when we get to Heaven, that He was right.
Amen to that! And besides, where else would we go? To whom would we look for answers? To ourselves? To our atheist friends? To the wisest men on earth? I hardly think so. God says He is love. I choose to believe that. To do otherwise, even when we don't understand some things, is unthinkable.
As a matter of fact, she is! I have about thirteen brothers and sisters where we share at least a mother or a father, but Sandy (I actually prefer Sandra, but that's a whole 'nother subject) is my only "whole" sister. We used to sing a lot together when we were little, but now we live on two different ends of the country and don't get to see each other very often. One of these days, though, I want to make at least one video of us together.
That was beautiful! It brought back memories of when I first got saved in 1974. I found myself singing the harmony along with you. He is still righr here beside me! Thank's, love your sister Sandy
And I'm so sorry to hear about Irene, that sounds like a tragic story. God must have wanted her home, my friend. Good job for singing the song again here, that must have been hard. You have my sympathy, man.
I was thinking about posting this as an instrumental (Rick Foster)Now it is even more meaningful. Thanks for sharing the story behind the song. God must have given you the strength to get through it at her funeral. I can't imagine how hard that must have been.
Yesterday I was singing this song and thought it should be on You Tube, and now it is!! We sang this in 1972 or 73 the word of the Lord is new every morning. Thanks. I also can not wait to meet Irene, won't it be simply marvellous +
Great singing!

Did Jesus really say those words? If so, where in the Bible are they found? I love the song but that troubles me.
chorister51 4 years ago
The Scripture reference is John 7:37-38
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."

You are most welcome! Now that you've found mine, no doubt you've found a few others, including Marsha Stevens' (Children of the Day), as well. She, of course, is the one who wrote it. I'm glad you enjoyed my rendition. Thanks for the comment!

The next tine you are tempted to agree with someone who says God a"hates" homosexuals, you may want to remember this song.
Why?
Because it was written by a Lesbian - her name is Marsha Stevens.
Ninure 4 years ago
Thank you, but I don't think I have ever been tempted to think God hates homosexuals. He hates their sin, but He also hates heterosexual sin. I am aware of Marsha's orientation, but God still loves her, and this is a beautiful song.

I learned this song when I was in 9th grade, and it touched a part of my heart, that to this day, 20+ yrs later, is able to bring a tear to my eyes. "Your goodness os great, I can't understand. But Dear Lord, I know , that all this was planned." My sister is in Glory now, God is sooo good!! Thank you

Wow!

Because in the long run we will see in this earth and when we get to Heaven, that He was right.
jiji45 4 years ago
Amen to that! And besides, where else would we go? To whom would we look for answers? To ourselves? To our atheist friends? To the wisest men on earth? I hardly think so. God says He is love. I choose to believe that. To do otherwise, even when we don't understand some things, is unthinkable.

hey Marti,
I had a worship leader back in the late eighties who had us play this song a few times...
It sounded like a fifties tune to me.
Thanks for the memories.

He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;
To added affliction He addeth His mercy,
to multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.
Very touching story Jack, and beautiful song. I'm very impressed by your viewership here also. Is Sandy like your real sister? lol
Abbey7 4 years ago
As a matter of fact, she is! I have about thirteen brothers and sisters where we share at least a mother or a father, but Sandy (I actually prefer Sandra, but that's a whole 'nother subject) is my only "whole" sister. We used to sing a lot together when we were little, but now we live on two different ends of the country and don't get to see each other very often. One of these days, though, I want to make at least one video of us together.
