  • Steve Waugh was a far better captain! Ponting had the best team in the history of cricket at his disposal yet was super conservative. He was not attacking and often relied on the batsman to get themselves out. Steve Waugh had a slightly lesser team, yet was more attacking and won games that Pontings captainsy would have lost.

  • Cant see how you can hold any logic to a Ponting better then Waugh statement. Waugh didnt just have the players he had the attitude he instilled confidence in rookies. Ponting on occasions has restricted the growth of rookies due to them not falling into his little click. Dont see all the stuff about Ponting captaining well since 2007 when AUS lost all our stars. 2008 lost home tour for the first time in ages and we didnt do a lot after that.

  • kinda surprised me that he rates ponting over waugh.i sgree what he says about Arujuna he was a great captian.knew what he had in the team and used them to perfection.not only did the Aravinda innings score us a win so did the Arujuna innings.

  • @briggs411 well i like the reason why he rates ponting over waugh. remember that waugh had the best team from start to finish of his captaincy while ponting lost mcgrath and warne. inspite what others say about australian team now. ponting has made the team still competitive till clarke taken over and i expect clarke to make this team better for the future

  • Chappell is right, maybe not about Ponting being better then Waugh. But he does not get the credit he deserves. In a 2-3 year period, Australia lost Hayden, Langer, Gilchrist, Warne and McGrath. All could be argued to be in the top 15 or 20 to have played in the Baggy Green. Mcgrath, Warne and Gilchrist would be in an the all time test 11 by most experts. He has managed to keep Australia really competitive in tough times as they try to gel a new side together. That was a one in a lifetime team

  • Asside from that particular comment you clearly are hearing in a different way to me, what else did he mention that was at all came from a "rather predujiced place"?

Besides, I kind of do agree that he is graceless and charmless and if he really wanted to badmouth Botham I reckon he would have just said he was shit or something equally as tasteless.

  • is chappell retarded

  • Botham was the sort of bowler who needed 16 fielders ? Bitter Old Prick Chappel ,What he was was one of The Greatest All Rounders to Draw Breath who happened to to clean you off a Bar Stool,Prick!!!

  • @BenWatts1 Clearly his point went straight over your brainless cranium

  • @DeanWhipper I'm not disputing or denying Chappel's Knowledge of The Game, but The Fact Remains his Views are Tainted by a deep and personal dislike of Botham, and he's using a public platform to take a few Cheap Shots at Him,which in my Opinion displays a Distinct lack of Class.

  • @BenWatts1 Again, his point is still going over your head.

All he meant was that Botham is the kind of guy who wants to take wickets and wants a fielder everywhere to take catches, he would say the same about Warnie or something.

  • @DeanWhipper His Tiresome and rather Laboured Point certainly isn't going over my head, the point i was making his views come from rather predujiced place, the fact remains he and Botham have strong dislike for each other,so he would never make a positive comment about him,Chappell is an Authority on The Game. But a Graceless and Charmless individual in The Mould of Matthew Hayden.

  • @BenWatts1 According to Botham.

  • @BenWatts1 Come on mate, I`m long suffering Kiwi but what did you expect to hear in an Ian Chappell interview? We all know Botham was a great player so just laugh it off. Botham and him were possibly too similar to get along or Chappell never liked flamboyant players whether they were Australian or not. I suspect there`s a few youtube videos floating around of Botham slagging off Aussies. Would like to see the 2 of them have a Drink Off though.

  • Harsha Bhogle more like bhoshle pussy ass bitch! Ian's like Ponting is good and Harsha is like 'really?' and Ian replies 'HELL YEAH' hahahah. Someone shoot Bhogle, he is a cricket idiot, who is one sided, and fakes a terrets syndrome to get attention (look at his hands and eye flicks). He is awful at commentating and is dumbest for saying Afridi is a good captain. Yeah right, Pakistan's Misbah is a better captain!!!!

  • ian and his bro only has big mouth they r simply aweful.......

  • yes ! i like his thoughts always and his knowledge about da game is quite huge

  • Thanks for Talking about Arjuna Ranatunga !

  • @Rok4Recordz chappell is a honest commentator of the game and ranatunga was a great captain who inspired his team to a world cup victory. Indian's can't hack chappell because he speaks the truth about their overrated 'stars'

  • waugh was a better captain than ponting

  • @addikt06 If You Check Afridi's Batting Average in World Cup Tournaments Then You Will Know Who Is idiot!!!

  • I'm a huge Ponting fan, but he's not as good a captain as Steve Waugh..... who was in turn not as good as Mark Taylor.

Chappell just hates Steve Waugh, always has done.

  • I like how Chappell when talking about Cricket always manages to get in something about when he played. Problem is that was well back in the last century. Perhaps he doesn't give enough credit for the way Waugh managed and developed his players to function as team, largely due to the fact that in the Chappell era that never took place.

  • best thing ive every heard him say

  • And with Chappell saying that, I've lost all respect I had for him.

  • I like Ian Chappell and have great respect for him as a captain and a commentator. I'd say he is the best commentator to listen to. But he clearly does not like Steve Waugh, which is why he is talking down on him. How could you rate Ponting ahead of Waugh as captain? Come on. I mean Steve Waugh wasn't the greatest captain ever, but Australia became unquestionably unbeatable under his leadership. When Chappell dislikes someone he goes hard at them.

  • Ian Chappell is an authority on Cricket and Since I am from Pakistan so I would certainly like our selectors to think smartly like him and remove Afridi from the Captaincy!! God Bless You Ian!!
