  • INCREDIBLE

  • sweet! a backup for 'solo'

  • What is the name of this song?

  • @Acidfart69 This is called "Missing Link". It's even more amazing with the other instumets. Go to myspace/manudelago

  • I hate the sound of this instrument. Like he was playing on a steel bucket.

  • @86kinky86 Please don't use the word hate in here or outside of these confines. Thank You. M.

  • That end, oh my, that end! 1:40, and then 1:50 when there's finally a proper "beat" rythm... Oh myyyyy!!!! :-D

  • Hey guys, just let it be when someone is bothering and trolling about the artist you appreciate. Don't feed his negative energy by frustrating yourself and replying strongly, just let it die and continue enjoying what YOU do like.. You all know hearing Manu Delago's hang melodies are meaningful and good to hear, this is the reason we're here and this is all that counts. Don't allow the rest to live. Just let it be, and it will surely fade away at some time. Let it die alone.

  • @gootch420 He isn't a pro, ok, but being a pro doesn't mean being good. A large number of amazing musicians are not pro, but they give all of their soul to their art, just by passion. You are just a fucking jealous guy.

  • Amazing - didn't even know it existed.

    & nice rhythmic changes, too!

  • Amazing - didn't even know it existed.

    & nice rhythmic changes, too!

  • the only reason why people think this guys good is because there are only a handfull of these drums right now so there isnt much competition

    this isnt even pro!!!

  • @gootch420 what are you talking about?!? this guy is DEFINATELY a 'pro', and one of the best i guarantee it. check out this other vid by manu and tell me he isnt a hang GOD

  • How much does one cost?

And is it true you can only get them in Switzerland?

  • about 2000 us dollars and yes only in switzerland can they e purchased

  • That is amazing.

  • so many times i saw this vid, each time of it i stunned for its beauty harmonic sound...is it could be happen you and tiesto team up?? ow that gonna be great...

  • manu! magnifico...

  • Drukqs :-)

  • I m listening to manu's compositions about 9 months now and he really makes a defference as a hang drum player!

Lately i was wondering if he listens to Wim Mertens music and further if he was inspired by some of them.

Did anybody else thought of that?

  • I can see where you're coming from. Wim Mertens is an under-rated Genius, seems like this guy is too.

  • splendido!

  • very very very nice and nevertheless I am very a critic ! i like it really too much !!

  • It seems like with hang drums you cant ever play the same thing twice. That's what makes them so interesting, every time you play it, its something new but always sounds good.

  • Is it hard to play ?

  • u need a mounth only to leard how to make real sound.

  • o_O

    ffs oO

  • song is called "missing link"

  • man I cannot wait for my hang drum/halo January they are going into production. thanks for the upload

  • reminds me of a cross between a steel drum and a gatam

  • lovely, thanks for sharing!

  • oh my god!

    i loveeee youuuu manu!

    from :spain :D:D

I saw you yesterday and you're the best!

  • :s:s:s:s:s tres fort !!

  • man...i really wish i could rate with more than 5 stars. just...enchanting.

  • what scale is the his hang on this video in?

  • i see a god...

  • yup, you do. and go take a look in the mirrior

    and you'll see god again.

  • So will a slight variation in where u touch it change to pitch? Like, do you have to develop perfect intonation like on a violin or trombone?

  • If it's anything like steel pans then no. Again like it's cousin the Steel Drum from Trinidad, the hang drum has sweet spots, in which a fuller warmer sound is produced when struck. However if there is any shift in playing away from the sweet stops a less desired, thin, more metallic sound will occur. But pretty much the same pitch, the only diffence would be the amount of harmonics produced.

  • It is 'like' a steel pan, but the tuning approach is different with an octave and a 5th built into each 'tone field'. So there is (especially with the newer models) indeed a variance in sound depending on where in the 'tone field' one strikes the Hang. A great example of extracting the overtones is in a YouTube video by Dante Bucci playing Hang called 'Fanfare'. At one point he dampens and strikes the tone fields in such a way as to really bring out the high overtones.

    Check it out!

  • One of the best hang drum solo's I've heard on YouTube!! Amazing. I wonder if it's hard to play one of those, it does look like it is...

  • They're incredibly rare, and they cost like $3000... later on in life, I would be willing to go to Switzerland to get one.

  • same here =)

  • Nice music, nice playing, i got to get me one of these, they sound beautiful.

  • beautiful composition, man

  • Grace full !!!

    Splendid !!!

  • i want one!!! does anybody know how i can get 1?

  • it's an hang drum

  • what kind of instrument is that?

  • they invented them recently, in switzerland, and only sell them there

  • we need to get this hang drum stuff into hip hop or mixed with sum other fun music style...it'd be AMAZING...

i just discovered the hang drum yesterday and am AMAZED lol..don't kno how i've never herad of it b4...

  • una cosa de locos, eh.

  • too bad that its almost impossible to get ur hands on a hang drum... T_T

  • yeah, when i listen to hand drum melody, i feel like im traveling, like im flying, awesome feeling

  • the best thing about a hang is the adventure of finding one

  • One of the best things, to be sure, but it is chock full of 'best things'. Manu seems to be able to draw out many for us to hear and feel.

    =)

  • Enchanting, but more simply put: amazing! Keep up your most excellent music and thank you for posting.

  • Amazing. That riff at 0:48 is awesome. I also like the slapping in to 2:50's, this is my favorite Hang song I've heard so far.

  • its so funny that people think there will be forever this one magical place,in a land far away. only a few will ever get one of these in a life time, and if they do it will cost so much money .get off the pipe!!!!like with any music instrument like drums or the guitar the people will have many places to choose from. like the usa ,pantheon steel drums.i have a friend in Iraq getting some made by a well known company that makes cymbals for drums .hell ,i might drop one off in china.

  • The problem is Hang Drums are nowhere near as popular as drums or guitar and as such have very few suppliers outside of PanArt. It is very difficult to obtain one of these outside of Europe for a reasonable amount of money. In order to buy a Hang Drum from PanArt you have to fly up to Switzerland and have one custom made and just the flight up there from North America is over five hundred. That's not even mentioning the actual price of the instrument.

  • I like the "snare-like" snaps/slaps towards the end....reminiscent of Andy Mckee's rhythm style on the guitar....good stuff....I play djembe myself and would love to get one of these...but apparently you need to sell your first born to get one...any suggestions?

  • i have shown your video's to almost everyone i know man. you are just downright amazing. i have seen other people play the hang but none come close to you. thank you so much for putting up your videos. i am heading to your site in hope to find a CD or something. keep up the good work.

  • I'm complimenting. You played magnificent and it is bewitching. thank you.

  • ripsy d i know what you mean.

sheesh, i hope this video never goes away

  • I've never heard of a hang drum, but now I want one lol It sounds really cool

  • my friend.

    you are the king.

your music hits something deep within me.

  • wow, good job! that sounds awesome

  • awesome!

  • they shoucd make an electronic version of this instrument that has a variation of differnt sounds and scales to play in.

  • music is objective, you can't say someone doesn't have talent.. if he can do something on it, then he can play it and it's music... just because you don't like it doesn't mean it shouldn't exist... you have a very narrow minded view of music

  • There is an electronic version available ;p soniccouture have a sampled version.

  • Askvargen, did those words like "twit" and "moron" come straight from the guys at Panart? Get over yourself...

  • wow never heard this before

  • My only complaint is that the room was too dark, I really would've liked to have seen the instrument better.

Music and talent though are Top Notch :)

  • sonofhamp- I think the darkness is supposed to match the mood of the song hes playing. Unless I'm wrong it's titled 'Missing Link.' I could only assume that he may want the environment for the vid to be as 'dark' as the song, instead of peppy. Besides, how much of a hang is there really to see? :P

  • This is an alternate of an excerpt of a long song titled 'Awake' that is on his solo album 'Made in Silence'.

  • Na Gratulation Manu! des hasch ja wieder fein hinbekommen! Werd ma jedenfall es nächste Drum&Groove anschaun im Treibhaus!

  • Where cn Iget one of this nice Instrument?

    And hey Mr. Delago: Wonderfull!

  • Don't bother, they're like 3 or 4 thousand apiece.

  • ever heard of saving money? ;D

  • Einherjar? do you play SG (shattered galaxy)?

  • One day, after many years of practice I will post a recording of me playing my hang, and I will still play in the shadow of Manus talent...................extraordinary, much respect.

  • Yeah, playing a Hang is not that easy - at least for me, I don't play any instruments. But I practice to and the skills getiing better :D

  • emotions simplicity. thanks manu,

    cristina

  • Can someone tell me how to buy an hang?

I live in Portugal and would like very much to buy one.

    Thank´s

  • You must send a letter to PANArt at:

    PANArt AG

    Engehaldenstr. 131

    CH-3012 Bern

Wait for a response and once you can get an appointment, you travel to the Hanghaus and can buy your hang. This process will take a while due to the number of people requesting appts. and the limited output of the hangmakers.

  • this is not an expensive instrument, go look what it costs to buy a cello.

there are loads of people making kickass music without knowing all the theory, dont be such an elitist fuck and enjoy the sounds.

of course when anyone can youtube a video you will get wankers and professionals. go look up guitar videos then cry over 'mozarts piano'..

quit being disappointed for people trying something new

  • i'm the retard[?]

    ebay#320173029040

  • yes u are, first of all the bidding isn't over second I said they have I didnt say they all would and third im talking about the ones in the USA.

  • oh, i see, the ONE you saw that SUPPOSEDLY sold for 10k has made you think theyr ALL like that.. well mr geeenius the one i listed didnt even sell at 800euro[biddings over]. so what if it wasnt in amerikkka. stop yappin and go hit some instruments.. it will make you feel better . . moron just like your prez, go eat a mcdonalds burger and choke on it

  • sorry not everyone speaks italian jackass, why would I bid on it. and yes they have sold for that price believe it or not. I dont like my president call him whatever you want I didnt vote for him and I dont eat mcdonalds. Maybe you should stop stereotyping, its against the hippie nature.

  • whatever... youtube argument #3,678,231

  • On Ebay they keep bidding until the prices are high...

  • 10k what? Pesos?

  • It is easy to generalize on most topics (< generalization), including music. I left a comment on your video, Mutlunatic.

Sid, please pardon my saying, but perhaps until you've actually seen every hang video on youtube you should refrain from making such broad and inflammatory generalizations. It can only serve to make people angry, and clog up comment areas with needless arguing.

  • What an amazing instument. I never even knew the Hang Drum exsisted, until earlier today. And now I find out there are even Hang Drum Snobs. Wow, where have I been. By the way, music is emotion and feeling expressed through sound. Not dots and lines on a page. Great Video.

  • Personally, Proto, I don't believe you need formal knowledge. True, many of the greats did, but what about the people who are great at winging it, or playing by ear? For example, I have a friend who creates beautiful piano pieces, but can't write sheet music at all; even reading it is difficult. This doesn't diminish her ability as a musician, just puts her in a slightly different category than formally taught musicians.

Manu's composition here is truly beautiful, though, no arguing that.

  • This is true some ppl are naturally gifted I wont argue against that. But this is an extremely rare thing and even still it will make them better musicians if they understood the language of music.

  • i totally agree with prototype. this is the only piece on youtube that actually incorporates any sense of melody into what is really a percussive instrument. this is really good, the others on here are cringeworthy.

  • No doubt Manu is the best I've seen so far on the Hang, but I think you judged too quickly when you saw my vids. /watch?v=M7wOOGJcSu0 --this is "cringeworhty", seriously?

  • Finally somebody who knows how to use a hand drum with some melody, RESPECT. Those hippies were making me angry, taking all the beutifull instruments away from real musicians.

  • define 'real' musicians PROTO

anyone can buy an instrument.. just look at all the kids murdering 'stairway to heaven' on their first guitar.. everyone has to start somewhere, and guess what? THEY saw it before you did, and THEY made a video.. if your angry about that then your likely angry about a lot of things. go outside and take a breath of fresh air

  • also.. its not like its a brand new invention.. just an updated and well engineered steel drum just like the caribbean people have used for ages

  • If Mozarts piano ended up in the hands of a poor muscisian, it wouldn't be jealousy, it's dissapointment. Something the whole world can understand. These instruments are hand crafted, only 2 a day are made and they dont ship them out. You have to get on a waitlist then travel to Switzerland and buy it at their store for an arm and a leg.

  • Hahaha sorry buddy im not an angry person, by real musicians I mean ppl who know music theory, scales, arpegios and all that good stuff. These instruments are almost impossible to get and they cost an arm and a leg. Theyre being put to waste. Are you a hippie too? did I strike a nerve.

  • hang drums are so awesome :D

  • lol, and I found it by stumbling...

  • Where can I get a Hang?

    Thanks!

    Ciao

  • what i don't like about some of the jam clips is that it reminds me of a bunch of college kids in a drum circle just grooving, banging out straight 8th or 16th notes constantly, not really knowing or worry about which notes are being played since it's all in key, right?

That's why I said this is such a good composition. I think Manu wrote this song, it didn't just happen.

It's clearly just a difference in opinion, Mark Roach is just jamming in that one clip but is clearly very very skilled.

  • obviously no-one liked my comment, therefor some extra arguments: check the videos "hang drum jam #2" and "Hang drum inner voice" It has a more mystic tone than this one. And thats why I (not you, I) like those better.

  • sounds for the inner system

  • cool :D

  • This song is great! I like it...
