  • I think im gonna love this band cuz i love BDM

  • Would it be wrong to say this song gave birth to some parts of metalcore? That picking downtuned guitar while playing 5-8-9 on the second string. That seems to be all modern metalcore bands do, and would it be wrong to say they ripped off that style from at the gates? And yes i know At The Gates is way more technical than the shit i just came up with. just an example.

  • perfect...

  • THE INTRO REMEMBERS ME AT FOOD FOR THE GODS BY IN FLAMES!

  • Melodic Death was born and dead with At The Gates. Everything else called "Melodic Death Metal" is just a sugar pop-metal, which doesn't have any relations to Death Metal.

  • @TheAmbience1992 i strongly disagree with you

  • @TheAmbience1992

Imsomnium, Quo Vadis and Neuraxis would all like to have a word with you.

  • @TheAmbience1992 The Troll is strong with this one.

  • This is so fucking amazing, I can't believe this is the first time I've heard this.

  • Your history teacher fucks the current teacher

  • my history teacher always plays these guys inn detention. hes weird but cool i guess

  • Love this album but it sounds too much like stuff In Flames had done long before 1995...

  • @zonker400 Uh maybe because In Flames was their biggest inspiration...? And like that's a problem, both are pretty amazing artists.

  • this band sounds alot like Forever In Terror another awesome Hardcore/Metalcore band

  • @TravisTheCrownless at the gates is a melodic death metal band and is active since 1990,ATG can't sound like the pussy stuff you just mentioned cause they're older, forever in terror would have to sound like ATG but they don't.They are a metalcore band as you mentioned. Now apologise to at the gates for the insult

  • @TravisTheCrownless I believe that you are wrong

  • GTA THE LOST AND DAMNED!!

  • Reminds me of the old soilwork. :D

  • Soilwork came after this album.

  • @WeIsDaTyrantz I know lol, but I've been listening to soilwork for a long time, and this is the first I've ever heard of this band

  • @Whamesl0l Fucking moron.

  • @UzikAlJhamin For hearing a band for the first time and being reminded of a band I already listen to... Brilliant.

  • i wanna kill sum1 to this song

  • You're all fucking faggots. These guys are good and that's that. Stop crying and just enjoy. Arguing about music is fucking stupid especially on youtube. It's like going to the biggest idiot convention in the world. There's no such thing as core anything. It's metal or it's not. It's good or it's bad and that's it, be thankful that there is so much metal to enjoy.

  • @BOBSAGGETASS damn right. I'm not a big fan of this myself, but that doesn't mean i need to say they are crap. they make good music for badass people who like it.

  • fuck I just don't like that voice but the music is amazing.

  • @diamondback604 agree with you

  • Anders nails this. Like everythin he comes up to.

  • @butcherer100 UNLEASH DA DEEEERRRSSSSS!!! LOL

  • @Qu3ridity well, I listen to Death Metal mainly. Slam/Brutal @ that. So, hearing crazy technical stuff doesn't ruin my standard. Simple is good, as long as it sounds GOOD! Animals is almost TOO bent on technicality, needs more groove.

  • This is amazing

  • Stop stealing songs from God's I-Pod!

  • @shinderhizzle84 that could be true, perhaps they spawned gothenburg.. Anyway, I listen to brutal death & slam for the most part, old-school death/thrash & new millenium old-school as well as some technical crazy shit like animals as leaders, Angel Vivaldi & Born Of Osiris (will always love BOO). whatever sounds good enough without being boring or getting too stale too soon..

  • @Fishumz

I've got a feeling that when you listen to Animals, BoO, and that kind of bands a LOT, every other music will be 'boring' after a while.. :P

  • @bixarredude101 sure, but said shitty bands favor this sound & replicate it, so how are you gunna call them bad when they sound like this? It's just personal preference, this is ...dinner table metal!

  • I really don't like this sound in metal. It's boring & not aggressive enough to be metal.. Should be in the rock category... + it spawned an era of HORRIBLE music, so... It's self-explanatory. You don't see heavy bands spawning emocore..

  • @Fishumz This is aggressive compared to Elvis, Guns N' Roses, and Van Halen. It's definitely not rock. It's pure metal...

And it's not the band's fault that they spawned metalcore. They didn't say, "Let's make an album that will inspire a bunch of shitty bands!" No.

  • @Fishumz

That's not entirely fair, because despite the 95% of immature metalheads who choose to stereotype by sub-genre, there ARE good, creative, not-lame metalcore bands out there, and it's THOSE guys that are influenced by ATG.

Furthermore, out of curiosity, what type of metal do you listen to? I would never categorize this as anything less than melodic death metal in, ever!

  • @szcsaba85 various Death Metal, Electro/House, Dubstep & Jerk...

  • Death Thrash? This? Sounds like fkn Gottumburgh (wtv) Metal along with soilwork & shit like that. Death Thrash is closely related to Old Skool & NMOSDM, not this, though.

  • @Fishumz what music you listen?

  • You must be some young kids on this shit. If it sounds good then listen to it, if it sounds like shit then don't listen to it. Simple as that. All these fucking genres make my head want to explode and it makes you sound retarded.

  • People!!

Listen to my metal band: /watch?v=-4FhN1jHu2c&feature=related

  • I don't get why people hate on Slaughter of the Soul for spawning a shitload of metalcore bands...it wasn't At the Gates' intention to do that. They didn't say, "Hm, let's make an album that will inspire hundreds of shitty bands" and created SOS. You could just as easily hate Suffocation or Dying Fetus for influencing deathcore, but both of those bands kick ass.

  • At the gates これ名盤って言われてるけどそこまでいいって気がしないなぁ。

  • well not for , Unleashed , Tiamat, Grave, Necrophobic, but it was a good year for

    Therion - Lepaca Kliffoth

    Unleashed - Victory

    Dismember- Massive Killing Capacity

  • its so metal i want to kill a kitten!!!!!!!!!

  • only metal...

  • wow, this is real fucking metal!!!

  • And this is more popular than ATG's "The Red In The Sky Is Ours" album how???

What a major dissapointment, and thus metalcore came about... how ironic.

  • @FutileExistence Don`t think so.

At The Gates have never been mentioned as Metalcore influence..

  • @donSparda

Uhh yeah they have? This album specifically was credited with influencing all the melodic metalcore than came after it.

  • @FutileExistence I`ve never heard of this truth, be it false or not, i don`t care, At The Gates are amazing, i will never fault the solid foundation because of a collapsed house.

  • @FutileExistence being more popular does not make it better :P, i too believe, that The Red In The Sky Is Ours is better but the truth is that Slaughter of the Soul is much more influential and many melodic death/deathcore bands have based their work in this album.

    At The Gates \m/

  • @mrwildcaptain honestly, if you have listened to Slaughter of The Soul, you have by the same time listened to like 95% of the metalcore riffs... lol

  • @metalcastor :D, i would say that the percentage is 20%, another 20% of the metalcore riffs is based on In Flames discography, 20% on Dissection, 20% on Dark Tranquillity, and as always 20% goes to Iron Maiden :P ahha

    I fucking love metal

  • @metalcastor

You know what you are talking about. And then people bitch about why others have horrible taste in metal when this was one of the biggest blows in metal history. And ironically enough these people also like Slaughter of The Soul and don't start to analyze what they listen for in music. =/

  • @mrwildcaptain

We already know popularity =/= quality. And sadly Slaughter of the Soul was more influential and spawned all the shit that is metalcore today. (Don't get me wrong, I enjoy me some melodic metalcore and REAL melodic hardcore)

Also I wouldn't say it necessarily influenced melodic death metal bands at all... Melodeath on the other hand...

Also Deathcore is terrible garbage as well whether it be focused on breakdowns or on being melodic. I only like 3 deathcore bands.

  • GO!

  • Fucking amazing

  • @7Nihility7 Mikael Åkerfeldt seems like a pretty swedish name to me.

  • @7Nihility7 lol no they aare swedish

  • @7Nihility7 Slayer are from Iceland

  • @Danthrax11 Anthrax are from Germany.

  • @7Nihility7 Actually, they're Swedish. I only said that add to the already large amount of people pointing that out

  • @7Nihility7 No i'm pretty sure opeth is swedish.

  • @Mrflammableduck lol I think that dude got it by now :)))

  • @7Nihility7 Nice trolling :)

  • These guys were revolutionary, born far before their time. I wish they would have a full reunion tour, maybe a few new albums. These guys inspire my writing still to this day.

  • I love how at the gates just kept outdoing themselves every album leading up to this

  • WWGGD

  • Loving 'Papyrus' font :-) great band, unbelievable song!

  • 1995 was an awesome year for Swedish metal:

At the Gates-Slaughter of the Soul

    Dark Tranquillity-The Gallery

    Dissection-Storm of the Light's Bane

    In Flames-The Jester Race

    Meshuggah-Destroy Erase Improve

    Opeth-Orchid

  • @HyoureiKyouran And in Finland, Rippikoulu were ripping up the underground better than anything else.

  • @HyoureiKyouran Makes me proud to have been born in 1995 :D

  • @HyoureiKyouran Every year is an awesome year for Swedish metal. 1995 was just the MOST awesome \m/

  • @HyoureiKyouran I hate to be an ass here, but technically The Jester Race was released in 1996. They released Subterranean in '95 though, which is really just as good.

  • @ILiekMetal Yeah, my bad. I realized that after I had posted my comment.

  • @HyoureiKyouran Now I feel special because 1995 was also my birth year haha

  • @HyoureiKyouran and i was born in 1995... So yeah 1995 was an awesome year for swedish metal :D

  • metalcore riffs

  • @xxxParkLinkinxxx Metalcore riffs? You must be out of your fcking mind.

  • @xxxParkLinkinxxx HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! You know that all that metalcore shit (and some masterpieces to be fair) would have never seen the face of earth if it wasn't for the HUGE swedish melodeath bands of the 90s, don't you!?

  • @xxxParkLinkinxxx Looser .. Go to listen justin bieber

  • @xxxParkLinkinxxx

I can see only when i read your profile name that you are a fag kid. "LinkinPark".......lol you say At The Gates rip off Metalcore riffs. Lol this masterpiece was in 1995. At this time your emocore bands still pooped in their fuckin diapers. All Metalcore bands copied the riffs of the original Melodic Death Metal music. Without talented bands like this you emo bands wouldnt exist. And P.S: LINKIN PARK fuckin sucks big amount of hairy gay balls. Fuckin electro pop teenie band.

  • @ChannelxxAUSTRIAxx01 that ParkLinkin is obviously a troll...

  • @ChannelxxAUSTRIAxx01 Hey, they may suck now, but even though I listen to most any sort of awesome rock and metal, Hybrid Theory and Meteora are still pretty solid albums in my book, the latter being one of my fav albums.

  • @artcellrox Hey not to troll on you or anything, but why the fuck are we talking about a mediocre band like Linkin Park to one of the best songs ever? I mean, fair enough, IMHO Hybrid Theory is an awesome album, but why are we all even talking/discussing shit like this, while we are listening (I assume) to At the Gates?

This is in NO way comparable, except for the instruments used maybe...

    I dnno man.

    Drunk...

    ROCK ON

  • @xxxParkLinkinxxx NOPE! Chuck Testa.

  • L.C.H.C MF!!!

  • 52 souls need to be slaught

  • i just wish i had some shrooms right now so i could b the soul slaughterer

  • I always wonder how it feels like being around my age(19) in the early-mid 90tees when In Flames Dts and these guys best albums came out!

  • 666,996 views :P

  • 666,000 likes. Now thats metal

  • @dunksman23 You mean views?

  • 330 more views and then it's 666,000 ;)

  • I still got this great album. 5*

  • Only 1,595 views away...

  • I LOVE THE SCREAMING!#!#!^% xD woo woooo!@

  • i hate when people just here something from sum1 else and they put it down as a comment so people will give him 50 likes or more, like the guy above who put long live metal, i doubt he even likes metal. Anyways, this band never fails to impress me, so i listen to them while i talk shit about Justin Beiber so i dont have to listen to his piece of shit music. Take this from a sum1 who actually likes metal and i dont do it for the likes. LONG LIVE METAL SONS OF BITCHES!!!!!!

  • @LilDeezy65 he didnt ask thumbs up so shut the fuck up

  • @Mystrikchannel

hmm why dont you go slit your wrist you emo fuck

  • @LilDeezy65 why don't you go listen lil wayne or something you fag

  • @LilDeezy65 LilDeezy....Hmmm i can tell you are a black nigger

  • @davidthesicmaggot Hey hey, black guy trying to headbang here. Take the racism somewhere else.

  • @lipailong2 Remember there's a difference between black men and niggers - black men are pure, niggers are wearing trousers round their ankles and shooting each other over women

  • @LilDeezy65 Just shut up.

  • gta 4 tlad :D

  • this is one of the best metal bands.....well in my opinion and i dont give a fuck what you think but if you love metal, you learn to appreciate every kind and if you hate this band then i guess your not a true head banger

    RIP HEADBANGERS BALL

  • @AsylumSicness95 listed under there Genres is Melodic death metal, metalcore and deathcore...so yeah they are metalcore and deathcore and melo death...not legit death metal.

  • @ulfhedinn666 TBDM are definitely not deathcore, they're hard to classify because they dont really sound like other melodeath bands like at the gates or in flams but if you think about what they are then it's kinda melodic death, its a bit more brutal than melodic death but not as brutal as just straight up death metal

  • @andymcnCFC the high pitched Vocals they do kinda' give them a deathcore kinda feel as well as their higher pitched guitars. ( i'm not a guitar guy so i don't really know how to explain it in technical guitar terms) but their guitars aren't distored and tuned to the lower tunes like most death metal bands. i guess they can be classified as melo death. but they still have those metal core and deathcore elments deep down in there

  • @ulfhedinn666 i understand where youre coming from man and i agree that they are definitely not a straight up death metal band. and yeah i think theyre original stuff takes a lot of influence from really early metalcore bands like prayer for cleansing, they are very hard to classify into one metal sub genre.personally, i think they are oneof the best metal bands ive heard in years but hey that's just me

  • @andymcnCFC don't get me wrong i like some of TBDM's stuff. To me, they just aren't death metal. to me straight up death metal is stuff like Cannibal corpse, blood red throne, six feet under, blood bath...shit like that

  • @ulfhedinn666 BDM is melodic death metal, bot traditional death metal, personally i dont really like to define bands in all the sub genres, I just say its metal

  • @andymcnCFC tbdm i think is considered to be technical death metal, but who cares what their classified as they just fucking shred

  • @ BrushfireNAVY TBDM stands for the black dahlia murder

  • bloodbath is insane deathmetal

  • im from Poland and think is very fucking good ;P

  • The only Melo-Death band worth mentioning really.

  • TBDM is melodeath, its death metal, thats melodic, you can't really argue with that

  • @PurpleDino1995 whats TBDM

  • uh, why the hell is Atreyu in the youtube mix for At the gates? O.o

  • so sad this band broke up, they could have kept goin and melted the faces of the new millenium

  • This is really brutal Melodic Death Metal, intense!

  • This is true Melodic Death Metal not bands like The Black Dahlia Murder and Children of Bodom!

  • @comedybenj I think that TBDM is real melodeath, but its your opinion.

  • @Litzeraque97 LOL! The Black Dahlia Murder is NOT melodeath at all. TBDM is death metal/ deathcore.

  • @ulfhedinn666 maybe death metal but not deathcore

  • @Litzeraque97 LOLZ TBDM is deathcore that calls it's self death metal. True death metal is like cannibal corpse, 6 feet under, amon amarth ( viking death metal) bands like TBDM are death core, good deathcore, but still deathcore. and i like VERY few deathcore bands, TBDM is one of them, but they are still deathcore

  • why do people even bother coming to pages and disliking? on every metal page there will be the same, some knob head has disliked, fuck off, Long live fucking melodeth \m/

  • Tony Hawk's Proving Ground? Fucking amazing song.

  • gta 4 forced me here

  • long live metal

  • Good song. Good title xD

  • 50 souls slaughtered = 50 people killed

  • 50 souls need to be slaughtered

  • @ierobixtis correction, 50 souls have been slaughted =)

  • This is one of the bands that got me into extreme metal.

  • This is supposed to be a slayer cover but i don't hear the similarity between the songs at all....

  • @ThisIsEndgame It`s not a Slayer cover..or a cover at all..

  • @donSparda Yeah thats what i thought. Someone had this on a list of 20 greatest covers. way off haha

  • @ThisIsEndgame they actually did a cover of slayers captor of sin and it's in this album.

  • @coloreel Oh okay that makes sense because i thought it was this song but it was probably just from this album

  • @donSparda

    Hey dude again :-)

  • Sounds good.

  • one of my favourite songs

  • Love that desperate sound 2.12 one of the best tracks from one the best albums mother fucker. \m/
