Do you have a roof antenna? I'm not sure what exactly you mean by your cable being through the wall

do you know how to get the digital channels once you've got a HDTV?

try to go to the tv's tuner and it should look for both analog and digital channels.  If it says it is searching for digital channels but at the end of the search none or few are found you might need to get an hdtv. Best case scenario is that you won't need your converter box for your HDTV and you can use it on another tv.
