@z32j10h This version of Statesboro Blues is nice and tasty indeed, but.. it is tame compared to another version I just heard of YouTube. "The Allman Brothers live Statesboro Blues" and it is live in Germany in 1991. Man does it OUT ROCK this version. It seems the current version of the Allman Brothers is more into tasty than just kicking the hell out of it. That 1991 version with Warren, Dickey Betts and Allen Woody was a bit closer to the energy and vibe that the original lineup with Duane.
Warren is excellent, and we all agree Obviously NO ONE can replace Duane , but when i listen to them now, Warren is WAY more powerful , potent and explosive compared to Dickey
i find Dickeys Playing to be lame, weak and lack luster , Hes obviously very skilled and talented but his playing lacks PUNCH and the Fire that Warren has
@LifeRegenRevolution ...you not wrong, but Duane's playing on the ORIGINAL studio version of this is just so free and natural it puts this version in the shade
it kind of just seemed like aimless jamming to me. it didn't really fit in with the song in any way. statesboro blues is a song that really moves. the extension just kind of meandered. the allman brothers always say they're "not a jam band, they're a band that jams." in this instance they were really just a jam band in my opinion
@alexsuperdude you're right that extending statesboro blues doesn't fit. but there is absolutely no such thing as aimless jamming when trucks is on lead. the guy turns every song on fire.
Sure wish copies of this were for super decent trade, of unreleased dvds for same, but thanks for this guys... Keeps it legal an i'm glad no ones rufflin feathers
Trucks closing solo has all the correct phrasing and captures how a solo can evolve and have a conclusion. Awsome!

Def not there best, watch the other version of it on here. Trucks kills the solo on that one. They all seem drunk or tired here.

Nobody can ever match the power of Duane and Dickey but Derek and Warren have a different type of energy
