OMG I went there with my bowling league when I was 12 or 13 I think. I know it was early 90's anyway. I remember the indoor rollercoaster that was called Nightmare or something. The ferry ride was cool because there was a dance floor inside......haha I remember feeling like I was so cool dancing to New Kids on the Block!!! lmfao!
@SunbeamsSting GET OVER IT!. Im so tired of people boo hooing about the riot which was actually more an uprising that was the result of the racial climate in Detroit more than anything according to most studies of social disorder. There were several race riots in Detroit dating back to the 40's, (FACT) there were whites attacking and murdering black people for the sheer sick joy of hate. The riots of the 60's was not about killing white people. Amazing that we only talk about the latter huh?
@SunbeamsSting absolutely not, look up who owns the vast majority of abandoned buildings, the history or refusing to sell knowing that one day they could get high amounts in a area with a history of redlining if they wait it out, despite the visual depressing site of a half torn bldg.and the reality is white flight from Detroit was an excuse blamed on the riots, we should all see that now, white flight started in the late 30's & got its power boost from the last white citizens in the early 70's
@SunbeamsStingMichigan is the most segregated state in the nation. criminals made news, while the unseen are hard working honest citizens. whites shouldve stayed and learned to live together like humans are supposed to do, instead of running to the suburbs while their children are sneaking back in droves.
@SunbeamsStingichigans segregation & the mindest that results from it to this day, that make some feel entitled, fearful, victimized, or ostracized has left a horrific wound. it made us all, both black and white dysfunctional because Michiganders end up living in a box & dont know about society beyond tv stereotypes until theyre grown & then its mostly too late. Anyone w/ friends of all races & ethnicites w/o prejudice sees it. the rest are blind..... all this finger pointing makes me sick
@SunbeamsSting Thank you for being open minded enough to hear my point. usually im attacked and called a racist for even tip toeing thru this subject, which is a even bigger joke, thanks again
@DONNIMETROPOLIS313 You mean Boblo WAS in Canada and it was ruined like every other thing in and around Detroit. We also don't have a state fair anymore. The fair WAS in Detroit and they should have moved it out.
Detroit, Flint, Pontiac, all shit holes. Too bad it has to be like this. We lived in the city for 40 yrs b/4 moving to the burbs. Our next move it out of the state.
I grew up going to boblo as well, and it was a great place for families to go to. It's sad it had to close and I heard that a developer bought it, and built homes on it.
I'm the guy with the girl in the front of the rollercoaster and the shot on the grass after a full day at the fantastic and great Boblo Island. I grew up going to Boblo as a kid and later was in the commercial. I would love to have a copy of this commercial. How can I get it? Thanks for the memories.
Thank you so much for the memory. My parents lost this video years ago. I'm the little boy dancing with the animals, riding the bumper cars and feeding the animals.
My brother in law used to get us tickets every year. We would go with my sis and her kids. It was always a blast!!!

@DONNIMETROPOLIS313
Oke DONNIMETROPOLIS313 you proved your point.
I didn't know it was whites ''murdering'' blacks in the 40's.
That's the story no one ever heard.
But what about the abandonation, was that only caused by the depression of the 80's?

Loved Boblo boat rides. Detroit can't have any parks. For some odd reason, they all seem to close. Hmmmm, can't figure out why?
