  • Vinders was a second rate composer. That is evident here in this eulogy: it is meant to express grief, what it fails to do. But just that makes this piece a perfect example of renaissance perfection: even when mourning, it sounds etheric and heavenly, and highly sophisticated. Compare that with the dissonant sneers in, say, Gombert: they mar the immaculate beauty of the renaissance era. This beauty is wonderfully preserved here and that is what makes this motet so worth hearing...
